Ran into an issue recently, and was wondering if anyone here may be able to help. When posting to a Gitter room via the web interface, I see my name as it is on my GitHub profile, but if I look at the same room via the Matrix bridge, my messages show up under my old deadname instead.

Hello, just exploring all the matrix clients out there. We're trying to decide which might be appropriate for a fairly large community of media people who, paradoxically, aren't all that adept with most communications tools, and the Fediverse is pretty challenging for most :)

We're currently using our own element.io instance (and our own synapse server). I'm curious to understand the relationship between the development efforts (Element/Gitter), as apparently they've merged, somehow?

hello, message deletion bridge to Matrix doesn't seem to be working for our channel (trezor/trezor-community)
it should be there according to gitterHQ/webapp#2639
there is a more recent gitterHQ/webapp#2841, but that doesn't seem to apply -- the user in question was native gitter
one thing comes to mind is, I first banned the user and deleted their posts only afterwards, and perhaps the banned user can't delete messages after being thrown out...? in which case #2841 should apply and Gitter Badger should do the deletion? but that didn't happen either

When trying to use Gitter via GitLab, I'm asked to grant access to the API, which "Grants complete read/write access to the API, including all groups and projects, the container registry, and the package registry." Why is this currently necessary? It looks like it was brought up a year ago: gitterHQ/webapp#2583

hello. Is there a function in Gitter to set user permission to chat in gitter rooms? I did a search and it doesn't seem to be there, so I'd like to get confirmation.
I'm trying to use gitter as a community for an open source project, so only core developers can chat, others can only read.

Trying to connect to gitter with hexchat. I followed the instructions at https://gitlab.com/gitterHQ/irc-bridge/-/wikis/hexchat but it fails to connect
I'm using the Default login method, as shown in the link
I found my gitter token by logging in at https://developer.gitter.im/apps

Hi! It appears gitter bans don't federate over to matrix. This is an issue because we're having a bit of a hate raid over on #fish-shell/fish-shell at the moment
