Write a bash shell script that can ping any domain name service (e.g. google.com, yahoo.com, localhost if you don't have net, etc.). And then capture the IP address that will be received by the Ping command. Analyze the IP address and findout if it is Class A, B, or C.

hello, any linux arch experts ?

@HarshaliRaka
I upgraded my Kernel version from 4.9.38-16.35.amzn1.x86_64 GNU/Linux to 4.14.51-60.38.amzn1.x86_64 GNU/Linux and the performance for my nginx(used as reverse-proxy server) running as a docker container has degraded.
The kernel call to __inet_check_established takes most of the CPU cycles and this happens when calling an upstream from nginx.
Does anyone know what could have changed over the versions of the kernel that I see a three-fold increase in my latencies (from 60ms to 188ms) ?

maybe a bad place to ask a question about C but I guess you'd know this - I'm trying to find an answer for an hour but I just don't understand it - if I have a global variable in a C file and declare it static, it's visible only in that file (translation unit) but then again if you want it more globally, you put extern. What is with aglobal variable that doesn't have neither extern or static?

Thanks!

@tthtlc_gitlab
extern: to indicate to the compiler that the variable has been declared global SOMEWHERE....and likely in another file. (why? if the variable is declared as global in the same file, and only this file is going to use that global var, then NO extern is needed.).
static local var: only that function can see that var, but it is "global" in the timing sense - because compiler put the var on the heap, and so allocated ONCE, and every function call the same var will be reused/accessed, ie, its previous values assigned will be retained and recognized by the next caller.

@tthtlc_gitlab
static global var: again it is allocated on the heap, and ONLY that file can see that var (and any functions within THAT FILE). another file will not be able to see that var.

sharkz-wang
@sharkz-wang
@max00xam hi, you need r (read) permission to list (ls) a directory
You have x (exec) permission, which is required to enter a directory, but no r permission
That's why you could cd' into this dir but was not able to list its contents
