Yazid
@Alabaster456
Alright, let's see what I can do. This is going to be my first time creating an design document. Lol.
tp9
@tp9
Maybe this project isn't ready to start yet then?
Yazid
@Alabaster456
You could be right. I was honestly trying to find a way to increase my knowledge as I went about with Python, but I guess this was a wrong turn.
I'm confident that I could make this work, but I'm a little unsure as to where to begin.
tp9
@tp9
If you want to increase your knowledge you could read other people's code or start with your own game first.
Yazid
@Alabaster456
That's true. But I've actually done that quite a few times already. I figured maybe having a group project would help me learn both at the same time.
tp9
@tp9
You've completed a game?
Yazid
@Alabaster456
Haha, not really. It was just a text adventure scrap that I made.
I might still have it.
tp9
@tp9
You're going to have to do a fairly large project before tackling a project of this magnitude I think.
Yazid
@Alabaster456
Mm, yeah.
I guess I jumped high. Lol.
tp9
@tp9
Heh, don't worry, you wouldn't be the first.
Yazid
@Alabaster456
I would hate to disappoint everyone though. Do you think I should still make something of this project at least?
tp9
@tp9
Hmmm. Not sure. I think you may be over your head. I was thinking about putting together a small project to try to get people involved but I am short on time right now.
Maybe I'll try to see what I can do tonight.
Yazid
@Alabaster456
Oh, alright. That sounds cool.
Sorry for questioning you with all these questions, by the way. :+1:
tp9
@tp9
Hey, no problem.
I've seen every project fail so far.
That's why I say don't sweat it.
Better to notice you're over your head early.
Yazid
@Alabaster456
I've actually witnessed a couple of projects fail as well, so I believe you when you say that. Lol.
Good.
Well hey, at least I can say that I learned something from this. It actually turned out to be a learning experience after all.
tp9
@tp9
Very tru.
Z
@Theeredhat
I've also suggested that this project may be over his head. It doesn't stop here though, Yazid. Like you said, this was a learning experience in it self. Increase your knowledge, and when you've covered enough material try again with an open mind. So we're calling this project the quits? If you guys are willing, I'm game for another project,. (;
TRVPLVRD
@TRVPLVRD
I would be willing to contribute to the project, if you're still interested in continuing. Text adventures are a great learning process, and they're not as complicated as people assume.
Yazid
@Alabaster456
Not that I ever feared it would be complicated, but a little unsure as to how I'd start it especially with @tp9's comment (no offense).
I'm always ready to learn, so if we're to start this project again, I'm willing to continue with it.
tp9
@tp9
@Alabaster456 If you want to move at a slower pace than I was planning to, feel free to use my code. Just fork it and work on your own version.
Yazid
@Alabaster456
Thank you for notifying me, @tp9. :+1:
tp9
@tp9
@Alabaster456 I noticed you joined another large Python project. Are you still doing this one too or are you moving on to the other project?
Alon Essix
@Alonessix
Wait... so it's off now? O.o
Z
@Theeredhat
This is by far the most unorganized project I've ever planned on contributing to. (: Are we continuing or not?
Alon Essix
@Alonessix
I'm not sure. We should get organized if we are to continue it, because, as you said, it's unorganized... and having a mess of code and helpers never helps ;)
Z
@Theeredhat
Good point. Things could possibly get messier.
@tp9 Have you found another coder to participate in your project?
tp9
@tp9
Nope. But there is another project that is getting underway that has some code already made. You guys should fork it on github. https://github.com/tp9/OpenSourceProjects
Z
@Theeredhat
I'll check it out.
Yazid
@Alabaster456
@tp9 I'm apart of a wide group of projects, so yes, I am still doing that one you listed above.
Yazid
@Alabaster456
@Theeredhat @Alonessix Sorry guys. I'm only still thinking about it, but I suppose I had enough time to make a decision - this project is going to continue. Giving up is a weak option, especially with people who are willing to proceed with this project. I didn't want this project to be a failure from the beginning, if you noticed my statement from my Codecademy post. Most people start a project and then don't finish it, but let's finish it. It doesn't have to be super perfect. I honestly thank everyone for wanting to participate, especially since you guys are doing it out of the time of your day. I'm learning from this just as much as you are probably, so take your time and learn from others. :smile: I do believe, though, being a leader was a bad move. Lol. But oh well.
Thing is, are you guys willing to continue this project with me?
We'll probably use @tp9's code as start-up, but I'm a little unsure about Classes and Objects in Python so I'm still debating. What do you guys say? Should we use it or not?
Alon Essix
@Alonessix
Do you know Ruby? I could probably be more helpful if we used that because I don't know about classes or a lot of other stuff in Python either. However, I'm working through Python on Codecademy and I have experience with Python so I can do that as well. it all depends on what you guys want to do. I've got a text adventure engine that could probably be ported to Python.
Yazid
@Alabaster456
I know Ruby somewhat, but I'm afraid others won't. I'd rather stick to a programming language that everyone is able to participate in.
I'm asking for everyone's opinion since I need to know, especially if we want to get this project running. I don't want to decide on something that everyone else doesn't agree on, so let's be cooperative guys. :+1:
Megacito
@Megacito
Is this project till running?
tp9
@tp9
@Megacito Not that I can tell. A group of us started another project here: https://github.com/PygameProjects/OpenSource_rpg
