Hey Guys, I am looking into angular2-webpack-starter to create a starter app for my company. I see "AoT" in the application. But there isn't any code (everything commented out) which supports "AoT" else Tree shaking functionality. Will it be added in future release?

probably more like webpack related question, but when i use useHash: false is there a way to avoid webpack trying to serve static files when directly accessing urls like /passwod/reset?email=example@example.com in dev mode?
it seems like webpack is treating .com like an extension of the file and tried to load it from file system, but fails

Hello guys, I'm trying to use pug as my template engine but I'm not having any luck with the variable interpolation. It tells me that the variable is undefined. It works if you do not use pug. I went through the steps to add it from the wiki but modified the rules a little bit so it fits with Webpack2 but its not working, any ideas how I can set this up?

Hi, I am trying to use https://github.com/salemdar/angular2-cookie with the starter. just importing it works with npm start but when I compile with aot it throws a dependency injection error in runtime. How do I include the library in vendor file? in the readme of the angular2-cookie repo it says to put it in the vendors.browser.ts, but that file doesn't exist anymore.
VaseemMalik
@VaseemMalik
Could you please tell me, What is the difference between AoT and Webpack, Which is good in performance?
rvalimaki
@rvalimaki
@VaseemMalik AFAIK, AOT is not an alternative to Webpack at all. It's the difference between Angular AOT template compilation instead of Angular JIT template compilation. When templates are compiled AOT / compile time that enables far more strict / precise code error/warning analysis, pre-compiled (== faster loading) templates, and smaller downloaded package due to absence of Angular compiler and three shaking. Unfortunately for us, we could not turn AOT compiling currently on on a rather large project. Reason being dozens of AOT compilation errors with quite confusing error messages I couldn't sort out. AOT compiler found also a lot of those errors I was able to fix, but had not enough time to fix those mystical ones.
JIT compilation happens when you open your Angular app with a browser. Or load a lazy-loaded module. That takes several seconds for our app, and so we should see some ~50% time reduction / ~200% speed increase with AOT , but it's currently not possible for us, unfortunately. Obviously compiling production builds with AOT will take somewhat longer than without AOT, but that shouldn't matter in any case. For development builds you are not using AOT anyway.

Hi Guys, thanks for the great starter :+1:
I have an issue which I'm sure is just because I have something configured badly.
I get the following issue when I run npm run github-deploy:prod: Module build failed: Error: Cannot find module 'C:\Users\Detectives\Desktop\Projects\ng2-alerts\node_modules\typescript\lib\package.json'

Any help is greatly appreciated :smile:

Is there a straightforward way to generate icons (favicons) for your site?
Ajay Kumar
@ajayak

@ajayak
My Angular app structure is getting out of control! I decided to organize by feature. I have a note feature. Inside of note I have

note.module.ts
note.component.ts
note.service.ts
note.model.ts
note.actions.ts
note.reducer.ts
and I have not yet included specs and other ui components that note component will use and I have no idea where to place them!
Anyone have a solution?

Chaz Gatian
@cgatian
@ajayak you could separate the files based off type. We've taken the approach to put all ngrx related content into a folder named store, all http services in http-services, and our models go in models

Hey folks, is there a reason why webpack.test.js doesn't include any of the common confirguration?
Chaz Gatian
@cgatian
@jgornick I suspect two reasons:
  • Karma with code coverage isn't as straight forward as you would think to setup. Many configuration options need to be very specific (ie inline-source-maps) in order for it to work corrrectly
  • Testing typically doesn't need all the additional configuration, angular lazy loading, and images.

Hello! Is it possible to use env variables in index.html? I am trying to include google api script but it requires API KEY (different each environment)
Juan Aguilar
@botika
Yes, with html-plugin. Only put your env variables in a global variable with process.env in metadata object and pass this . Like this https://github.com/AngularClass/angular2-webpack-starter/blob/master/config/webpack.common.js#L277
@pawelkondraciuk and this https://nodejs.org/api/process.html#process_process_env for pass your environment variables to node
Pawel Kondraciuk
@pawelkondraciuk
@botika i've tried adding key into metadata (different across environments) but it only uses keys from webpack.common.ts
Dave Bosley
@DBosley
Hello there, all. Is anyone familiar with getting the angular2-webpack-starter project working for github pages?
Dave Bosley
@DBosley

I cloned the repo and ran 2 commands:

npm i
npm run github-deploy:prod

For some reason, I get errors while compiling the ts files. The errors complain that node_modules/typescript/lib/package.json doesn't exist, but I'm pretty sure there isn't supposed to be a package.json there
