Random: Looks like I was wrong about reference source code. It can be used just fine. Mono is using it to replace their types.

hmm, i'm not sure that's correct. from the licence on that page:
""Reference use" means use of the software within your company as a reference, in read only form, for the sole purposes of debugging your products, maintaining your products, or enhancing the interoperability of your products with the software, and specifically excludes the right to distribute the software outside of your company."
specifically excludes the right to distribute the software outside of your company
i think the reference source mono are using is: https://github.com/Microsoft/referencesource
which is under the MIT licence but doesn't include WPF/XAML

I imagine the biggest reason they haven't open sourced is they don't want to simply "dump" it into the open, but they also don't have the man power to do it properly. Very lose-lose :\

well having heard/read interviews with the XAML team, they seem to be unconvinced so far about open source

I imagine that until recently they were more than a few steps removed from the forces inside MSFT pushing for open source. With .NET having gone full on open source and certain windows teams working with open source and MSFT open tech now, I hope that mentality is shifting.

Microsoft is, for better or worse, a big place. These things, I imagine, take time :\

it'd be nice to know though - because we could write our own XAML parser but that would be a massive waste of time if MS are going to OS theirs...

 16 de febrero del 2015 18:51 I've tried a few months ago with that code and it seems there's some issue with it. The fact is that the original .NET assembly works and from the Mono version it throws an exception
Yes, I have read it :D very very cool! I found it via Glenn Block :)
