I might try reverting the commit(s) that deal with recycling templates see if it lets me test
I think I can play around with arrow key nav anyway

yeah, skia's looking more promising than cairo - we just need shiasharp to support more stuff afaik

yup - miguel has said that they're not going to work on cairo/gtk any more i believe, and concentrate on skia

There's a fork of gtk sharp that has support for gtk 3.14 and newer versions of the other components as well.

yeah, might be worth using it, but seeing as you can't distribute gtk# as a nuget it makes things more difficult
as at least we're currently relying on an official download, even if it's out of date
