Hello. I'm trying to start using Avalonia UI. Is there an example somewhere or an article on how to use Avalonia?

@TiFix install VS extension, create a new project, read WPF docs (especially about MVVM), read migration guilde

@danwalmsley so, no standalone repro...
Mkay, I'll try to do something about that
danwalmsley
@danwalmsley
Oct 18 2017 09:05
the standalone repro would just be move the document tab control out
so it wouldn't be much of an isolation
there would be quite a lot of stuff there
it looks like its just got to a point where it cant find the avalonia namespace

Hmmmmm....
Well, it should see the assembly
Since it's force-referenced

I'm trying to set up a dependency to the xaml from the class in those new csproj files that do not have a list of files in the project, any examples/ideas?
Nikita Tsukanov
@kekekeks
Oct 18 2017 12:05
@JurjenBiewenga use application template from VS extension
    <ItemGroup>
        <Compile Update="**\*.xaml.cs">
            <DependentUpon>%(Filename)</DependentUpon>
        </Compile>
        <EmbeddedResource Include="**\*.xaml">
            <SubType>Designer</SubType>
        </EmbeddedResource>
    </ItemGroup>

our travis builds are failing with
E: Failed to fetch https://packagecloud.io/basho/riak/ubuntu/dists/trusty/main/source/Sources  HttpError401
E: Failed to fetch https://packagecloud.io/basho/riak/ubuntu/dists/trusty/main/binary-amd64/Packages  HttpError401
E: Failed to fetch https://packagecloud.io/basho/riak/ubuntu/dists/trusty/main/binary-i386/Packages  HttpError401
has someone we relied on for packages removed them?
Nikita Tsukanov
@kekekeks
Oct 18 2017 16:24
That seems to be an entire repository being down
Matthijs ter Woord
@mterwoord
Oct 18 2017 16:47
that seems like some kind of ubuntu repository..
what packages are being used?
Nikita Tsukanov
@kekekeks
Oct 18 2017 16:48
It probably tries to install Mono and/or .NET Core SDK
Matthijs ter Woord
@mterwoord
Oct 18 2017 16:48
then why not use the official ones?
Nikita Tsukanov
@kekekeks
Oct 18 2017 16:48
And they have several deps that don't exist in default image
I guess that's a local mirror
We should probably install all that stuff manually instead of relying on most-of-the-time-somewhat-broken travis scripts
our osx build have been broken for weeks
because travis tries to install openssl which isn't even needed

@grokys
Oct 18 2017 17:13
oh so that's not even us? bah, travis

@danwalmsley I've got a PR out that should fix the Portable.Xaml bug. #1237
Nikita Tsukanov
@kekekeks
Oct 18 2017 19:58
Are you sure that you didn't just move that method?
Jeremy Koritzinsky
@jkoritzinsky
Oct 18 2017 20:06
I did. I moved it to the base class, which was likely returning true earlier, which was causing the crash.
danwalmsley
@danwalmsley
Oct 18 2017 20:09
just trying it out now
Nikita Tsukanov
@kekekeks
Oct 18 2017 20:18
Ah, that file contains multiple types, I see
That's confusing
danwalmsley
@danwalmsley
Oct 18 2017 20:27
@jkoritzinsky didn't seem to fix it unfortunately
Jeremy Koritzinsky
@jkoritzinsky
Oct 18 2017 20:41
@danwalmsley You misspelled IsVisible as IsVisble
So it should be crashing because IsVisble isn't a member on Button and Portable.Xaml now verifies that the property names are correct
Nikita Tsukanov
@kekekeks
Oct 18 2017 20:42
It should completely crash though
intead of swallowing exception
Jeremy Koritzinsky
@jkoritzinsky
Oct 18 2017 20:43
based on #1234 it sounds like it is
crashing that is
#1237 fixes a different possible bug.
danwalmsley
@danwalmsley
Oct 18 2017 21:04
ah man!
i hate spelling mistakes like that
I can hardly ever see them
thanks!
hmmm yeah, it does swallow the exception though
and continue
so you just get a small part of your ui that isn't completely loaded.
looking forward to the day when portable.xaml compiles XAML, so we find these things out at build time

@jkoritzinsky added a few tests to #1209 (including one failing) - would you rather i upload a gist or push directly to your branch?
also i'm not sure about the way we'll switch between logical and physical trees with the new syntax depending on whether a type is specified
i'll add a note
danwalmsley
@danwalmsley
Oct 18 2017 21:14
@jkoritzinsky i'll approve and merge #1237 anyway
Jeremy Koritzinsky
@jkoritzinsky
Oct 18 2017 21:35
@grokys push to my branch. It's easier to integrate into my branch then. And we can change the RelativeSource syntax again. When I have a chance to update that PR I'll look at your feedback and figure it out.
Steven Kirk
@grokys
Oct 18 2017 21:36
sure! let me know if you want to discuss anything in here
pushed the tests

@grokys @kekekeks What do we want to do about the issues we have in the Pre-Beta milestone that are tagged as "needs-repro"? Some of these are multiple years old. Can/should we close the ones that are at least a year old since we haven't gotten any updates with them?
Steven Kirk
@grokys
Oct 18 2017 21:58
yeah i'd say close them asking to comment if they're still a problem
