    Question: When importing a .csv BOM to a project, you get to assign which column contains which information. In my specific case I want to assign Qty to column 0 of the .csv. But while I can assign columns to eg. Refs, Value and Package, there's no way to assign Qty to a column. Is this a mistake or am I doing something wrong?
    RASGO.XYZ
    @rasgo_xyz_twitter
    hi @lassesort , thats the expected behaviour as Qty is automatically calculated from BOM Refs (and that's a mandatory field)
    so if you import a line with "R1, R2, R3", Qty will be automatically 3. this is to avoid errors

    @lassesort

    Thanks.

    Another question:
    When creating a project or an order; the price for parts that I manually entered a custom preferred seller for do not show up. Either the price and seller don't show - or if the part is available from my preferred seller (Mouser in my case) that info is shown in stead. I'm not sure why I would go through the tedious process of entering custom preferred sellers and prices (which I've done for about 100 parts now), if that info is not used by the project and order sections of Bomist. I was hoping I could have used the project and order sections to do quick BOM cost calculations. Seems like I can't. Again: Am I doing something wrong here?

    hi @lassesort , you are right, it should work as you described. Ie. custom seller and price being displayed instead of global preferred one. I'm releasing a new update during this weekend or early next week with a bug fix for it. thank you so much for your feedback!
    if you prefer you can also contact me via email through mario@bomist.com

    Hi, I just got Bomist and I have a problem with "project". I created all parts needed, I export the BOM from Eagle, import in a project, all goes without any error, but then the button "assemble" stay disabled and I can't then create an order for it. While it works just fine with the "DummyProject". What am I doing wrong?
    hamletg
    @hamletg
    And I should have mentioned that I import the BOM by using columns "refs" and "internal part number"

    Hi @rasgo_xyz_twitter I am experiencing the same issue that @lassesort reported. I wanted to add two more things (1) if I click on an item, the supplier will switch to my custom value. However the only way to make this happen for all the entries, is to edit the order, click on a entry, exit, edit the order, etc. until the supplier is correct for all the entries. And (2) even after going throuhg this, I am still unable to change the status of the order as I get an error stating 'A PENDING order can't have undefined sellers'. The only solution is to set everything to my global preferred seller, but that is pretty bad, as all my orders seems to be for Mouser, while that is not true. I would much prefer to have a generic unspecified Other than incorrect information.

    Thanks,
    nico

    Is there anyway to shift a row up/down in the Project BOM editor?
    nl
    @cazero_gitlab

    @rasgo_xyz_twitter wanted to thank you for the update, I was able to adjust my orders with custom suppliers, things are neater now!

    I would also be interested in the suggestion that @Skullian made about being able to reorder rows in the BoM editor - this would also be useful in the order editor.

    @Skullian
    Do Labels, Category and Storage get saved in the backup file? I did an import on a fresh install and these were not imported.
    RASGO.XYZ
    @rasgo_xyz_twitter
    thanks for the feedback @Skullian and @nl !
    @Skullian I can confirm that - the backup file contains everything, it's just the importing that's missing some parts - it will be fixed on the next update (soon)
    RASGO.XYZ
    @rasgo_xyz_twitter
    if not on the next update, the "move up" / "move down" row feature will also be added on a future one - that sorting will be lost if you decide to sort the table by any of its columns, though

    I just downloaded Bomist from the website, copied into c:\programfiles. Got the write error. Ugh. Moved it into users\user\appdata\local, ran it again, says update available (but didnt i just download the latest version from the website??), i click the update button, bomist exits and nothing happens.
    Not a great start....
    Putting user data into the same directory as the app is quite a no-no these days. Why is bomist still doing it?
    How do i fix this update issue?
    RASGO.XYZ
    @rasgo_xyz_twitter
    @MWP there was indeed an issue related with the cache not being correctly invalidated - now when downloading BOMIST through the website https://bomist.com you'll get the most up-to-date version
    the idea behind putting data in the same directory as the app was for it to be 100% portable by the time it was implemented, but I agree you and separating the app from its data by default is planned
    aslo, if you use BOMIST through e.g. C:\Users\<your_user>\bomist you should have no issues with write priviledges and running the updater
    MWP
    @MWP
    I think the best idea would be distribution via an installer (like NSIS), and on first run bomist asking for the database location, so it can be placed anywhere.
    It would step that professionalism level up a notch. And also... name your release ZIPs (or hopefully one day an installer) by release date. bomist_latest naming isnt useful (download a few over time, who knows which is which?), and may cause web caching issues too.

    @Chad24868885_twitter thanks for reaching out! So far no support for Linux/Ubuntu is planned. Maybe it will work with Wine?

    Hey, I'm trying out bomist, and have a couple of problems. If I edit a bom, for example, after clicking ok the project page doesn't update until I restart the program.
    Another thing I don't quite understand is managing an order. When I assemble and create an order, I can't edit the order quantity within the app. If I export the column appears, but it's empty. How am I supposed to use that feature?
    Thanks
    RASGO.XYZ
    @rasgo_xyz_twitter
    hey @yaongi_jigsaw_twitter I can't reproduce your first issue. What are you editing on the BOM that you don't see updated after pressing OK? as for managing orders: once you create an order from assembling a project (ie, not enough stock of some parts) you can click the Edit button to edit the quantities. You can edit quantities when the order is in the Draft state (you can learn more about states here: https://bomist.com/getting-started.html)
    @yaongi_jigsaw_twitter which version of BOMIST are you using? You should be able to see the quantity (Qty column) of you order when you export the table to a CSV file. Make sure you are using the latest version of BOMIST https://bomist.com/

    I am unable to change the width of the 'description' field on the project view ; this is currently set to something very narrow and, as result, all entries in the BOM are extremely tall due to the description text wrapping over - this makes the view very frustrating to use, any chance this can be addressed?
    RASGO.XYZ
    @rasgo_xyz_twitter
    @cazero_gitlab I can confirm that! It will be fixed on the next update!
    thanks for reporting it!
    @neosoyo plans has changed slightly. hope to release some news on that soon :)
    Saulo
    @neosoyo
    i don't know why but when i edit a project, the BOM list at "Details" section only update the BOM if i restart Bomist... this is normal? i'm running it over windows7 VM. Also, the app is crashing sometimes (really randomly) when typing the reference code for a new part in a project.

    @cazero_gitlab

    Issue 1 : when splitting an order why status is changed to pending?

    Issue 2: when splitting an order, why the operation does not always work and result in only one order (with less items)?

    Issue 3 : Seller field updated for part -> confirmed this is reflected in the project view, however when I create an order from the assemble project window, the resulting order is still showing the old value of the seller

    Issue 4 : order view is not updated after an edit, one needs to switch view and go back to orders to see the updated one
    nl
    @cazero_gitlab
    Issue 2 and 3 are likely related. If I edit the order, then click on each individual entry, the seller field is updated. Once I do that, the split works correctly
    Happy to have found a workaround, but this is very frustrating
    Also worrying, because while I have seen several software with GUI updates issues, here it looks like the underlying data model is not correct, and forcing a GUI refresh fixes that

    Hello! I just recently tested Bomist, to see if it's suitable for our company. One issue that I faced is the following: When having an inventory with (let's say) multiple capacitors (100nF, X7R, 0805) all interchangeble. I would like to select in the BOM that these capacitors can all be used, and that the generated order from the BOM first uses all of the applicable capacitors, and then let's me order more capacitors of my preffered type. I can't find how to do so in the current version.

    I agree, I would prefer to be able to make the row height a lot narrower than it currently is.

    Feature Suggestion: Please add ADDITIONAL NOTES (parts screen) as a column header. I currently use it to store important preffered supplier part number to and would like to be able to filter on it.

    When assembling the EXTRA MARGIN resets to 20% every time. I like to keep it at zero. Would be better if it remembered it's last setting or have it configurable in the settings.
    Ian Johnston
    @IanSJohnston_twitter
    Suggestion: If I set any of my columns (i.e. PARTS) to left justify, perhaps the column header should switch to left justification also so that it's aligned.
