@OftKilted BCB wanted me to make all russes use the turret radio button selector instead of how we have it set up now where there’s a dedicated entry for each type of russ inside the Russ RSE
This question made me feel vindicated lol

@tekton If it is Ok with you, I will take a stab at fixing #373 for the Greenskinz catalog.

@/all, If I were to suggest we release next Friday (25/05), do we think we'll be ready?
OftKilted
@OftKilted
May 17 2018 14:45
@Mad-Spy Sounds like a reasonable plan.
My only side concern would be that within a short period of time we’re looking at needing to do a points redo.
Iain Launchbury
@Mad-Spy
May 17 2018 14:51
I think it's going to be better to get it out there and get through the initial wave of issues before we need to start on the v2.0 rules.
OftKilted
@OftKilted
May 17 2018 14:52
Point taken.
And we’re looking at some units being no longer valid.
Come GW v2.0
Iain Launchbury
@Mad-Spy
May 17 2018 14:54
and potentially a bunch of new ones... :smile:
OftKilted
@OftKilted
May 17 2018 14:54
We probably want to label our release as AoS v.2017
So as not to confuse the issue of GW v2.0
Vs AoS data file rebuild.
Iain Launchbury
@Mad-Spy
May 17 2018 14:56
we can just release it under 1.X, AoS v2.0 was just the internal name.
then increment to v2 when v2 comes along.
maybe jump to v1.5
OftKilted
@OftKilted
May 17 2018 14:56
1.5 sounds good
OftKilted
@OftKilted

v1.5 on the 25th sounds good.
Just in time to redo a bunch of stuff for AoS v2.

Given the points en-mass change that will be happening, working with @alphalas point solution may be an easier lift long term.
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
May 17 2018 15:29
Yeah that’s part of why I was advocating the KISS approach ;)
Makes updating points infinitely easier :p
OftKilted
@OftKilted
May 17 2018 15:35
The exceptions would still need to be identified... but, with the points update it’s an easier lift if we were to change then.

@Mad-Spy
May 17 2018 15:50
What @alphalas point solution?
tekton
@tekton
May 17 2018 15:51
@OftKilted OR they're going to be the Grey Knights of AoS...either way I picked the right army
OftKilted
@OftKilted
May 17 2018 15:52
@alphalas And que your solution explanation....
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
May 17 2018 15:53
@Mad-Spy only use the increment/decrement thing for units that don’t divide nicely; use a set points conditional triggered off having the max squad size to reduce the cost of each clump of models to make the proper horde cost
Look at how I did skinks vs saurus iirc
Iain Launchbury
@Mad-Spy
May 17 2018 15:54
i tihnk my original reason for doing it that way was to support the original attempt to get battalion validation working and have the points increment correctly.
because the points for the unit are not actually increased if you increase the SEs which contribute, it just shows that way in the UI.
thus, you need to force the unit level point value to update, which requires the increments.
If the new way of doing battalions means that the points work properly now, then there's no real reason to do it the "old" way.
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
May 17 2018 15:59
AFAIK it does

@Mad-Spy I get that but I don’t remember that being an issue at all in formations in 7e

May 17 2018 17:00
Is it better to have one system that works all the time but maybe isn't quite as good than still have to use it sometimes and have two systems?
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
May 17 2018 17:06
@mdtm1g14 not if you’re wasting lines where a simple system will do
Adding all those conditionals adds a lot of needless lines which means longer load times
When in doubt, if you can, go for the simplest option
OftKilted
@OftKilted
May 17 2018 17:07
@mdtm1g14 Is it better to have a solution that is easier to implement and takes less maintenance with fewer moving parts but requires an occasional handling exception in edge cases, or to have a solution that is extremely complex but is consistent?
mdtm1g14
@mdtm1g14
May 17 2018 17:11
Personally I prefer a slightly more complex but consistent approach, both for ease of passing things over to other people and for the user who wants everything to work the same way, but that is just me
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
May 17 2018 17:15
Well in the case of the user the end result is the same either way
Or at least is should be
glares at stupid BS bugs in the past
The problem with complex but consistent is you eventually end up with the HH Astartes cat that literally will not run on iDevices older the 6s’s

C
OftKilted
@OftKilted
May 17 2018 17:22
@mdtm1g14 However it isn’t explicitly the same for all units (even with the complex solution) so we still have differences.
IE it isn’t required in all situations.
mdtm1g14
@mdtm1g14
May 17 2018 17:28
Is the an example of one where the numbers don't divide easily in the different style?
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
May 17 2018 17:33
Any of the grots
Brimstone horrors
There’s a couple in orcs
I think a couple in beastmen too
The vast majority do work in the simplified
mdtm1g14
@mdtm1g14
May 17 2018 17:35
So those that don't would still use the old style?
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
May 17 2018 17:35
yes.

@OftKilted
May 17 2018 17:35

mdtm1g14
@mdtm1g14
May 17 2018 17:37
For me I prefer them to be the same, but in any case is it worth waiting for the new points before changing so we only have to do one lot of updates, it will likely only be a couple of weeks anyway
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
May 17 2018 17:49
Well for any unit that doesn’t have a horde discount, yes it’s totally worth it
Because then all we need to do then is just adjust values not remove the logic and set values

@OftKilted Going to be away from the keyboard for a few days. Will have my phone and time to test. Can you push the new catalogues to Dropbox?
