should the selected thing be a entry? or should it be a profile like the pistol below it?
im confused why the one is an entry but the other is a profile.

i commited what i have so far - the bug is fixed.

Probably a profile. Some things work better as entries. For instance, a Shokk Attack gun has a bunch of associated rules. So it is an entry.

Good questions @alphalas I have a little one, how often should I commit? Last night I fixed the problem with the eldar core command auxiliary selections not showing, but I was battling with the min/max limits so I didn't commit... Should I have?

@Kohato are you working on the Eldar Craftworld list? I should have scrolled down and realised that #2685 that I've assigned to myself is a duplicate of #2630 and #2626 ...

@FarseerVeraenthis

Good questions @alphalas I have a little one, how often should I commit? Last night I fixed the problem with the eldar core command auxiliary selections not showing, but I was battling with the min/max limits so I didn't commit... Should I have?

It's best to commit whenever you fix any bug/issue completely, or some part that is decoupled (say a bug is in 3 cats, you've fixed it in one of them), and push changes immediately (as long as you know you've fixed it, so test what you're fixing ;) ). That way there is less chance of any conflict.

@alphalas

should the selected thing be a entry? or should it be a profile like the pistol below it?

The Hot Shot Lasgun here is a very bad design. There shouldn't be entries that link to entries of the same name, as is the case here. The Lasgun should be linked directly as a child of parent group instead of being nested in an entry itself.

There's dozens of weapons like that in the MT cat, Amis
Weapon linking to same weapon linking to profile
Amadeusz Sadowski
@amis92
Nov 08 2016 13:36
Well, if you can't see an immediate reason that it should stay that way, it'd be great if you'd change that. I think roster views of MT are one hell of a duplicated mess, then?
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Nov 08 2016 13:36
Probably- I'll dig into if after I fix wolves

oh @alphalas if you're at it - I have a feeling all those unneeded constraints that get added during the conversion cause errors and crashes in BS.
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Nov 08 2016 14:07
ok, heres a fun one. I fixed the SW CAD errors and the wolves unleashed errors. However, when i try to open a company of great wolf, or wolf claw strike force (both meta detachments IIRC) in the roster editor, i get this error message:

Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Nov 08 2016 14:09
I get way less stack trace when i try to do that great wolf thing, but a LOT of validation errors
like needs a minimum of 1 Cypher
or minimum of 1 Reaver Titan :D
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Nov 08 2016 14:10
yeah i just fixed those, uploading fixes now.

Currently I cannot create ANY roster because BS throws

Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Nov 08 2016 14:30
nope, simply worked
company of the great puppy with space puppy codex
complained about 1 hq and 2 elites
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Nov 08 2016 14:31
try wolfclaw SF - that was doing it too.
if it doesnt, i'll be a happy little beaver.
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Nov 08 2016 14:32
just validation errors
about the min req for the detachments
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Nov 08 2016 14:32
YeY!
so i just have 2 more issues with wolves - a cost discrepancy that i need to confirm and a weapon issue with units and weapons.
@Thairne is there a shared entry i can copy from for the sokar?

Nov 08 2016 14:47
ok, this shit is starting to annoy me. trying to use the app like the tutorial says, and every time i try to open a cat in the github app, is says this file is invalid for use as the following: security catalog. then how am i supposed to use the damn github app?
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Nov 08 2016 14:48

Will Pattison
@GenWilhelm
Nov 08 2016 14:53

@DrTobogganMD
Nov 08 2016 16:38

*One with a name change I should say
did you make a new cat file or just rename the filename?

Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Nov 08 2016 16:41
i dont understand why the file name changed on me.
i just checked - my local copy of MT changed name too
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Nov 08 2016 16:41
Not sure, probably connected to the mistaken catz upload
O.o that's not good
You might want to purge local data and get a fresh copy of the repo
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Nov 08 2016 16:43
but i had deleted it from the github when i fixed wolves
so it's not there now.
uploading corrected name MT

Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD

Using my godly admin powers, I've single-handedly reset these revisions. Hopefully I've not hurt any feelings, if so, please accept my apologies.

Case is closed. For future reference, please make any new catalogues start with revision 2000, and the same when any catalogue is upgraded to 2.0 format.

Nov 08 2016 17:45
sounds like jon is suggesting we put version numbers in the cat titles now...
so we can use major/minor
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Nov 08 2016 17:46
No, user-only visible version number is a bad idea
v2000 is a fine compromise for the issue
flakpanda
@flakpanda
Nov 08 2016 17:46
actually his last line in the email "I can add an (optional) version field if you guys want it"
i dont think he would suggest it if it wasnt that hard
to impliment
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Nov 08 2016 17:47
Not that it's hard. but if we have an internal revision + a user visible version, that will start disconnects in error reporting especially if it's optional
flakpanda
@flakpanda
Nov 08 2016 17:48
well i wouldnt use a user visible number in the cat titles if there was an incrimental version number
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Nov 08 2016 17:48
Fair
Amadeusz Sadowski
@amis92
Nov 08 2016 17:48
That leads straight to redundancy, we'd have to keep up 2 different numbering/symbolic schemes. I see only Chaos in there. But oh well, my Grey Knight education may have sth to do with it.
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Nov 08 2016 17:48

Minimum 4 models present in roster.
No models may have armor saves better than 3+.
No vehicles may have armour values totalling greater than 33 (Front + Side + Back).
No models may have more than 3 Wounds or Hull Points.
I'll have that for now
can add more later if needed.

@FarseerVeraenthis
Nov 08 2016 20:14
blob
that's my history page
blob
that's my "Changes" page, and while it will occasionally load the first one I click on, often I just get dots going left to right across the top of the white space....
I did try to sync, but it complained that I had uncommitted changes
Amadeusz Sadowski
@amis92
Nov 08 2016 20:16
That's not good
you have some changes in almost all files
Simon Porter
@FarseerVeraenthis
Nov 08 2016 20:16
tbh, it won't take long to re-do the changes to the Eldar list if I have to undo them, purge and reload...
I know, but I've not made any changes to them...
I'm largely perplexed as to why they keep showing up....
Amadeusz Sadowski
@amis92
Nov 08 2016 20:17
Can you describe your setup? Where do you get data from, where do you hold it etc?
There might be a problem with your line endings
Simon Porter
@FarseerVeraenthis
Nov 08 2016 20:21
righto, so, I've currently got all my data stored in my dropbox folder, I originally cloned it from GitHub, then the other day I couldn;t sync, so I deleted everything and downloaded it again from GitHub
Simon Porter
@FarseerVeraenthis
Nov 08 2016 20:27
in the previous version of battlescribe, the dropbox sync was fantastic, but I never did any "updates" so I wonder if that's causing the trouble with github and I need to revise my setup
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Nov 08 2016 20:30
Yeah Dropbox is fucking up iOS BS2 bad
Amadeusz Sadowski
@amis92
Nov 08 2016 20:31
Yeah honestly, messing dropbox with git is not a good idea
Simon Porter
@FarseerVeraenthis
Nov 08 2016 20:33
hmmm... I think I'm agreeing wholeheartedly... I just left it to sort itself out, and most of those change files are empty so I can only assume it is something to do with dropbox sync fooling Git into thinking a change has been made...
I'll see if I can clear the list and sync, then I'll delete all my downloaded data, and move the repository to a different location...
Amadeusz Sadowski
@amis92
Nov 08 2016 20:40
I have no idea what exactly is wrong, but Dropbox is for 99% the reason. Also, in case you have some changes you don't want to commit, because for example Data Editor did something automatically, you can right-click on a file listed, and select Discard changes.
But you can try to save the catalogue somewhere, purge data, clone in GitHub to other location and replace the Eldar car with the one you've copied (with your changes). Could work, and save a bit of work.
Simon Porter
@FarseerVeraenthis
Nov 08 2016 20:48
yeah, I'm trying to "discard changes" for these files, the changes are nothing I've done... it just seems to take ages to load and the option to discard is greyed out until it loads...
Amadeusz Sadowski
@amis92
Nov 08 2016 21:03
well, the second option (purge and copy over just the elder file) then. :)
Simon Porter
@FarseerVeraenthis
Nov 08 2016 21:06
so, I started by unlinking from dropbox on my phone - WOW what an improvement in speeeeed...! now I'm just sorting out Github and my repository location, then I should be able to finally upload my changes "properly" (I hope) :simle:
:smile: even...
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Nov 08 2016 21:55
who is doing AM and the FW AM lists?
Simon Porter
@FarseerVeraenthis
Nov 08 2016 21:57
mother of goodness, it might have worked...!! I think there were a lot of things linked into the Eldar .cat that probably shouldn't have been, hence why it looks like I've updated 10 different files when I actually only updated one...
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Nov 08 2016 21:59
That's not how links work.
Simon Porter
@FarseerVeraenthis
Nov 08 2016 21:59
with that, I'm off to bed, hopefully in the morning when I auto update with my phone my updates will have been applied and everything will be rosy...
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Nov 08 2016 21:59
It sure al. Check the wiki
Catalog keepers are there
Will Pattison
@GenWilhelm
Nov 08 2016 21:59
@alphalas I started on DKK siege, but got caught up in constraints not working properly
Simon Porter
@FarseerVeraenthis
Nov 08 2016 22:01
@Kohato I just can't understand why after a complete delete, uninstall, reinstall, re-download, re-edit those other files were changed as well?! but, we'll see if it works in the morning and go from there :smile:
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Nov 08 2016 22:02
ok @GenWilhelm - do you want to keep it? im seeing errors for practically all the IG divisions.
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Nov 08 2016 22:04
@FarseerVeraenthis Happens to me everytime too. I just commit my changes, discard all and sync. Don't bother with files you don'T change, works just fine that way
Simon Porter
@FarseerVeraenthis
Nov 08 2016 22:06
which sounds great, and that's what I was trying to do, but github seemed to keep crashing / freezing when I was trying to discard changes on the other files, so I just committed everything - I hope that won't cause any drama for anyone else but it just wouldn't work otherwise...
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Nov 08 2016 22:07
Oh yea, I still have no idea what happened.
Just saying, links don't actually have claws in each catalog. So changing the links in 1 wouldn't cause a data change in 6 others.
Either way, tomorrow. g'night @FarseerVeraenthis
Hey @Thairne
Did you touch SAV, Vraks, or Tyrant's Legion?
Not sure if you meant to, you comitted a large number of line changes to those 3 when you did DA.
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Nov 08 2016 22:11
nope, I'm keeping to my 4
Will Pattison
@GenWilhelm
Nov 08 2016 22:11
@alphalas I have very little time atm, so if you want to do them go ahead
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Nov 08 2016 22:11
what? Ah heck
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Nov 08 2016 22:12
Yea. If you meant to, nice. Just noticed and didn't think you actually meant to do that
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Nov 08 2016 22:12
ah for fucks sake
I seem to have not discarded the autochanges for those things
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Nov 08 2016 22:12
Oh, it was just the 2.0 auto conversion?
That's fine then - I haven't touched any of those 3. Not sure anybody has
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Nov 08 2016 22:13
I think so... like I said to veraenthis, everytime I edit ANY file loads pop up as changed
guess it is BS Data editor, what else?
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Nov 08 2016 22:13
Oh it is 100% that
if you load a file in the 2.0 data editor, it will convert.
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Nov 08 2016 22:13
the vraks BS i could probably work on - i barely understand SAV or Tyrant
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Nov 08 2016 22:14
well thing is - I don't load any other file than those that "belong" to me
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Nov 08 2016 22:14
Oh, odd then
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Nov 08 2016 22:14
I remember having 27 changed files in the beginning everytime
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Nov 08 2016 22:14
ill start on the astra miliwhat.
can anyone link me to the keepers list so i can update it?
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Nov 08 2016 22:14
now.. how does one revert a commit in git.. clicks the button
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Nov 08 2016 22:15
danke
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Nov 08 2016 22:15
Hah. @amis92 for that one
I wouldn't bother honestly
Those 3 haven't been touched for 2.0
so any changes you did won't hurt and might help.
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Nov 08 2016 22:15
ffs.. can we switch to SVN and tortoise? ^^
yeah I guess so
but in that case - we should do a "master commit" with the auto converted files
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Nov 08 2016 22:16
I find this to be a nice method:
blob
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Nov 08 2016 22:16
pk7Wl.jpg
yeah upload file is haow ive been trying to do it.
obligitory "invoking the keepers" image.
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Nov 08 2016 22:17
aight, I'll just ignore the commits then and hope for the best ;)
AH mass effect. Didn't even get into the first one.
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Nov 08 2016 22:17
i was deeply addicted to all 3
apparently im one of the few who actually liked the "real" version of the ending.
holy shit im commited to a bunch of cats now.
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Nov 08 2016 22:20
New GST uploaded boys
Nothing big, just that's like the only thing I feel the need to warn you about when I update it
Amadeusz Sadowski
@amis92
Nov 08 2016 22:21
Can I ask you something?
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Nov 08 2016 22:21
Who, and sure?
Amadeusz Sadowski
@amis92
Nov 08 2016 22:21
Is upgrading cats (unattended) to 2.0 malicious?
I'm talking about those commited lately
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Nov 08 2016 22:21
well I sure as hell hope not Oo
Amadeusz Sadowski
@amis92
Nov 08 2016 22:21
As a side-effect
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Nov 08 2016 22:21
Malicious as in what
we do it to be destructive?
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Nov 08 2016 22:21
because that is what happened to me an hour ago
Amadeusz Sadowski
@amis92
Nov 08 2016 22:22
As in worse than not-converted for end user on BS2.0
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Nov 08 2016 22:22
I rather think "cat not working anymore"
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Nov 08 2016 22:22
No, not at all
End user's APP converts it
the same as if we do here
Amadeusz Sadowski
@amis92
Nov 08 2016 22:22
all right
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Nov 08 2016 22:22
It just startles me every time I see 20k line changes on unrelated cat files
A Dark Angels commit shouldn't change 60,000 Space Marine lines ~.o
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Nov 08 2016 22:23
The first legion has that kind of power!
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Nov 08 2016 22:23
But the actual 2.0 conversion, it does nothing more than if the user opened the file. Their app does the same thing.
Amadeusz Sadowski
@amis92
Nov 08 2016 22:24
Good
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Nov 08 2016 22:25

alright. It reverted the entire commit with all 4 files and pushed them. That undid my mistake - but also my work.
Now how do I get it to revert the revert on the DA cataloque only?

Oh how I long for my simple svn/tortoise setup...

Amadeusz Sadowski
@amis92
Nov 08 2016 22:26
Well, I think GitHub app doesn't make it easy
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Nov 08 2016 22:26
it sure as hell doesn't...
Amadeusz Sadowski
@amis92
Nov 08 2016 22:26
Just BTW, you know that there is Tortoise for GIT
?
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Nov 08 2016 22:26
... there is?
Amadeusz Sadowski
@amis92
Nov 08 2016 22:26
yeah :D
I have no idea how close in GUI it is with SVN one, but it's quite good
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Nov 08 2016 22:27
I use tortoise at work, so I'm a TAD more familiar with that one...
Amadeusz Sadowski
@amis92
Nov 08 2016 22:28
anyway, in case you want some help, you can open command promt/terminal in the folder from GitHub app, and type "git checkout <commit sha>"
where commit sha may be just 5-6 first characters
or you could open the file in web GitHub, open file history and find the last commit you want the file from, download the file and commit it again :D
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Nov 08 2016 22:31
Anyone have any changes being comitted shortly?
Gonna throw out another release if not.
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Nov 08 2016 22:32
give me a second to install all that gitstuff
and fix my da release
*file
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Nov 08 2016 22:33
@amis92 Space marines there kind of is. My revamp is a whole new cat file. I rebuilt it from ground up.
So a standard update will work - they'll have 2 SM codex files in their list though unless they purge
Amadeusz Sadowski
@amis92
Nov 08 2016 22:33
Oh no. Why would you do that :<
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Nov 08 2016 22:33
Unless BS removes cat files not in the repo anymore
Because the old SM was a nightmare of a mess.
Amadeusz Sadowski
@amis92
Nov 08 2016 22:33
Nope, doesn't. Wish it did.
Yeah, I get, but you could just copy over the ID...
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Nov 08 2016 22:34
In hindsight ... yea you're right
Amadeusz Sadowski
@amis92
Nov 08 2016 22:34
...and leave the same filename.
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Nov 08 2016 22:34
I still could I suppse
Not hard to change
I'll go do that
Amadeusz Sadowski
@amis92
Nov 08 2016 22:34
Was it pushed already?
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Nov 08 2016 22:34
I mean it's been pushed since we moved to 2.0
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Nov 08 2016 22:35
god
it worked
I can tortoise! It's a bit different, but I'll find my way.
That helps me out a freakin' LOT
Amadeusz Sadowski
@amis92
Nov 08 2016 22:35
@Kohato Uh. Well. Maybe that's still a good idea. Your decision here.
@Thairne glad to hear :D
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Nov 08 2016 22:36
has anyone used codehub?
Amadeusz Sadowski
@amis92
Nov 08 2016 22:37
wooo it's good! never heard of it before, and no Apple device. Looks nice tough
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Nov 08 2016 22:38
I changed the filename/ID
BAh
Ok so here's the thing Amis
Just realized
Anyone who's connected to the repo since BS2
will have the new file in their list
even if I change this
they'll need to purge to remove it
Amadeusz Sadowski
@amis92
Nov 08 2016 22:39
Yeah. That's why I said it's your decision. :D
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Nov 08 2016 22:39
That was my mistake, I shoud've just copied the ID over to the new file.
Well balls. ok
I'll change it over. It'll save the people who haven't converted yet at the least.
Amadeusz Sadowski
@amis92
Nov 08 2016 22:40
Same thing that made me jump to v2000.
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Nov 08 2016 22:41
hmm codehub for pc is nifty
kinda basic but nifty
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Nov 08 2016 22:42
Ok - fixed
Throwing out a release.
I'll note in it that people who see dupliate catalogs should purge and re-download
Eric Falsken
@efalsken
Nov 08 2016 22:55
ok, so, is Eldar fixed yet? i've got a few minutes I can put into it if needed
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Nov 08 2016 22:56
I don't think any of us have touched it yet, no
I was planning on it tomorrow along with nids
Eric Falsken
@efalsken
Nov 08 2016 22:56
ok. I'll start with the open Tau tickets.
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Nov 08 2016 22:59
i self-assigned the IG/flavors tickets - ill start working on them.
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Nov 08 2016 23:04
@raptor1770 wants to take over SW - i say let him lol
raptor1770
@raptor1770
Nov 08 2016 23:04
Oh no lol I have made a classic blunder
It does pain me to see the SW section in its current state
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Nov 08 2016 23:06
i got stuck with it to try to fix the errors it was throwing - i fixed them but not much else.
so theres still plenty that it needs done.
raptor1770
@raptor1770
Nov 08 2016 23:06
Well I definitely would like to help with that.
I have a programming background but this would be my first venture into battlescribe
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Nov 08 2016 23:08
its not hard - i have minimal programming background - but the data editor is so easy an idiot can problably work the basics
raptor1770
@raptor1770
Nov 08 2016 23:09
I may be an idiot sir, but there is one thing I am not, and that sir is an idiot.
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Nov 08 2016 23:09
lol you'll fit right in.
just watch out for @Thairne - he's itching for a dual of the wolf and the lion
raptor1770
@raptor1770
Nov 08 2016 23:11
Anytime :D
raptor1770
@raptor1770
Nov 08 2016 23:24
@alphalas is it worth filling out bug reports for the issues I currently see or should I just fix them?
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Nov 08 2016 23:26
If you're maintaining and are planning to fix them at that time, no need for an issue
If you notice something but don't have time right then
open an issue to track
Eric Falsken
@efalsken
Nov 08 2016 23:43
by the way, guys, if you add the issue number in your comments, you can auto-close tickets when you push the commit.
it also helps a lot better than seeing a commit history that looks like a list of catalog names......
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Nov 08 2016 23:45
This ^ - And it links the commit into the comment for the user
raptor1770
@raptor1770
Nov 08 2016 23:45
Cool
Eric Falsken
@efalsken
Nov 08 2016 23:46
One Commit Per Fix.
and to save yourself a headach, you should "branch" and then checkout your private branch.
then use Pull-Request to merge from your private branch. that helps prevent accidental checkins of everything.
raptor1770
@raptor1770
Nov 08 2016 23:48
Got it, I use a similar system at work to branch changes then commit to trunk when finished
Eric Falsken
@efalsken
Nov 08 2016 23:48
Fork to a private repo.
Checkout your private repo to your local drive. (github/me/wh40k)
Checkout as a new branch. (todays-fixes)
Commit 1 per fixed issue. (you can even edit the commit comment text)
Push your local branch to your private repo
you'll see a "create pull request" button.
