@alphalas how's it going to work for Castellans? It'll show up as a distinct detachment per faction?
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Mar 13 2017 02:59
You have to add multiple like grandCon or warCon - but it validates nicely

@amis92 shared resources or global resources? If it's an item that can contain different types (tags, slots, etc) then I think of hardpoints on vehicles or some kind of universal interface system, modules maybe? Modular usually indicates system that can be used to swap or change things around.
Amadeusz Sadowski
@amis92
Mar 13 2017 08:05
Yeah that'd be it. I'm playing with general concept anyway. But modules are too programming-related as I see it. The potential of this slot/plugin system would be fully achieved only in connection with ability to import catalogues in other catalogues and source reference enhancements. So we could literally map books to catalogues which then would be loaded into roster per user request (kind of: I want to build roster using Codex:Space Marines, IA: Badab War and Gathering Storm 2, and then app loads just the required catalogues with entries and rules for those books).

Sounds exciting, but a big update to the system...

Mar 13 2017 08:53
I am very, very confused
grafik.png
where the heck does it get the max 0 from?
grafik.png
the fun part...

validates just fine in grand convo.

.. THIS ANNOYS ME GREATLY!
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Mar 13 2017 09:35
Ah. Fun times. Deleting a SEG crashes the roster editor. And it was at this moment... Jon knew.. he fucked up.
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Mar 13 2017 09:40
That's weird as shit
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Mar 13 2017 09:40
right?! I keep staring at it, yet I can't see what's wrong
should be so easy....
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Mar 13 2017 09:40
The max0, not the SEG crashing editor - we all know about that issue
Hmm
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Mar 13 2017 09:41
its a different crash tho.. not with a nested SEG
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Mar 13 2017 09:43
Really? That's new
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Mar 13 2017 09:44
correction: It's deleting the link that caused it. I tried deleting it and copying over... Anyway, that's annoying as fuck, but not on my mind right now
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Mar 13 2017 09:45
Well, here's a thought to simplify- can you make a link to the servitors in the enginseer that only appears in Castellans? Because the servitors don't actually apply against the Elite cap
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Mar 13 2017 09:46
oooooh
well... its not the cult mech enginseer then anyway
its the AM enginseer
They're a pain about it
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Mar 13 2017 09:48
why not simply use this one?
grafik.png
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Mar 13 2017 09:48
I have that one implemented iirc
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Mar 13 2017 09:48
it even specifiies its the AM enginseer and not the CM
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Mar 13 2017 09:49
AM/IA
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Mar 13 2017 09:49
yes? why do I need to modify cult for that?
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Mar 13 2017 09:49
IA is the CM 'seer
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Mar 13 2017 09:49
IA is Imperial Agents
which wandered into CM too since it is faction CM
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Mar 13 2017 09:49
The only 'seer in IA is faction CM
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Mar 13 2017 09:49
still, why not use the AM entry? functionally the same
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Mar 13 2017 09:50
Honestly? We don't have too - was trying to avoid people bitching about incomplete
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Mar 13 2017 09:51
I would argue that adding an entire detachment for CM that can entirely be replaced with an entry in AM is fortunate
and ti keeps with the "spirit" of the detachment of AM/SM
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Mar 13 2017 09:51
Fair
Works for me

tsk. No detachment rules for Catellans? Shoddy work! :P
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Mar 13 2017 09:54
Shit I knew I forgot something
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Mar 13 2017 09:55
can'T copy rules from my epub reader
but I guess if one detachment of it has it it is enough, so I don't need to add them to knights too
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Mar 13 2017 09:59
Well I'd say if we're using that logic then SM gets it
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Mar 13 2017 09:59
nah
Knights are completely optional
you cannot fill HQ and troops with knights
You can however fill HQ and troops with solely AM or solely SM
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Mar 13 2017 09:59
I'll add it in later on my 5 - if you finish IK I can add it then there too
I know I can copy-paste on my iPad
I was doing that last night to make sure I didn't forget any guard units
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Mar 13 2017 10:01
IK are in
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Mar 13 2017 10:06
:+1:
So now we're just waiting on SM
I got rules copied to my iPad so I'll be good to go to add that nonsense in
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Mar 13 2017 10:07
perfect
which reminds me I need to add Guiliman to my cats too
although I'd readily crucify anyone that uses Bobby with Dark Angels.
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Mar 13 2017 10:10
Fair enough lol
And voldus
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Mar 13 2017 10:11
less heretical
but still justifies a good ol' purging
GK do know tho. They just don't care.

@amis92 Funny, I was thinking the same thing the other day. The best way to make BS snappy would be the ability to divide large catalogues into sub-catalogs that are loaded only as they are needed. In the case if SM, I'd say one per chapter, one for FW, etc... I.E. All Ultramarines-specific units are loaded into memory only once you've selected chapter tactics(UM).
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Mar 13 2017 12:14
I mean, that wouldn't really help SM. The number of unique chapter selections is mostly on the relics. It's FW that really kills SM
Will Pattison
@GenWilhelm
Mar 13 2017 12:16
i think that's what francois is saying. you could have a separate catalogue for FW options that isnt loaded until you select "show forgeworld"
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Mar 13 2017 12:16
After having to add hide conditions to half the guard codex, I agree with @Kohato - it's not chapter specific, it's FW.
and then you have people that are going to be eminently aggravated that they have to select to load forgeworld
All that's gonna do is rile up people more in regards to the "ban FW" crowd, imo
Will Pattison
@GenWilhelm
Mar 13 2017 12:19
i dont see how its much different to how it currently operates from a user perspective
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Mar 13 2017 12:23
That's fair for marines I guess
Guard auto-shows FW iirc
Might be wrong - been a while since I made a non-castellans guard list
Simon Porter
@FarseerVeraenthis
Mar 13 2017 12:24
/Flamesuit why don't we just ban forgeworld? /Flamesuit
Will Pattison
@GenWilhelm
Mar 13 2017 12:24
yeah, i think only SM and CSM have the "show FW" options atm
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Mar 13 2017 12:28
We only hide FW by default on cats that have a huge selection of it
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Mar 13 2017 12:29
TBF, half of guard is FW ;)
François Beaulieu
@francoisbeaulieu
Mar 13 2017 12:31
It doesn't have to one or the other. You could have a really small memory footprint if you only load the metadata for everything (i.e titles of top-level selectable options) and load the rest of the data only when it's needed. In theory, you could even code BS to do that on the catalogs as they exist today.
Will Pattison
@GenWilhelm
Mar 13 2017 12:34
but then we have to stop and wait to load something from storage every time we hover over it for the first time.
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Mar 13 2017 12:36
That might work on mobile, but doubt it would be viable on pc
François Beaulieu
@francoisbeaulieu
Mar 13 2017 12:41
Loading the data in small units should be very quick, you might not even notice it. Heck, on mobile it's already a pain to select some things in large cats...
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Mar 13 2017 12:43
One thing I've learned working on this program – should be and are are two totally different things
Simon Porter
@FarseerVeraenthis
Mar 13 2017 12:48
Hehehe!
François Beaulieu
@francoisbeaulieu
Mar 13 2017 12:49
True. I don't know all the edge cases which might make this unadvisable.
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Mar 13 2017 12:50
I'm not arguing against for mobile - something like that probably could help - unless the know android issues cause bigger problems. It's just I could see that causing issues on pc
Stuff like this makes me happy that Apple standardizes everything when it comes to memory and processing stuff like that – makes it easy to write programs. Android and windows are just so fragmented
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Mar 13 2017 13:16
that is simply the price of
