For 40k uses, imagine if there were whatever their equivalent of a battalion is that required DREADNOUGHT units. METAL BAWKSES
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
May 19 2017 00:10
oh for 30k that would be prefect
there's a RoW (Quasi-formation/detachment) that makes contemptuous and box dreads troops.
contemptors*

May 19 2017 12:52
wow, castellans is so much easier and cleaner in the new battlescribe
i dont know if im more excited for 8th edition or 2.01 :D
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
May 19 2017 12:54
2.01 looks like good
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
May 19 2017 13:00
I've gotta take a peek... I don't understand half of what y'all are prattling on about :P

tldr: categories = win
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
May 19 2017 13:02
I'm in the same boat - I'm gunna need a primer lol
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
May 19 2017 13:09
Uh huh. So now every entry links to a FoC slot instead of assigning it in the link. So those are these categories I wager.
Will Pattison
@GenWilhelm
May 19 2017 13:10
yeah, categories are linked under the entry
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
May 19 2017 13:12
this basically replaces the clusterfuck solution I came up with for Castellans/Convocation
just assign a category, category has min/max depending on Detachment
correct?
If yes, I understand how it is easier :P
Will Pattison
@GenWilhelm
May 19 2017 13:13
exactly
no more messing around with hidden entries that have to be checked by the user
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
May 19 2017 13:14
pfah.
this is happy lists. I prefer my lists to be.. dark.
so I could assign several categories to an entry, check the one I want it to "be" as primary and it will further appear in that category. So I can have "troops" that are troops, but validate something else entirely, like "Primaris Troops"
Will Pattison
@GenWilhelm
May 19 2017 13:16
thats the idea
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
May 19 2017 13:17
See? me smart!
Will Pattison
@GenWilhelm
May 19 2017 13:18
i still have no idea how we're going to validate the more general detachments, such as imperium or chaos
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
May 19 2017 13:18
Got it. There's your primer Alphalas, doesn't look like there's much more to it yet (besides constraints referencing these new categoeries"
)
cartag
@cartag
May 19 2017 13:18
the categories aren't necessarily FOC slots though
You can validate in category rather than detachment
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
May 19 2017 13:18
nope, but currently they are for obvious reasons

May 19 2017 13:19
hm...
lemme think. I need to fully switch my brain over to categories, maybe I can cough something up
cartag
@cartag
May 19 2017 13:20
With that setup, Bloodletters tagged as Battleline will validate against roster limits when part of a battalion, which is something they've not been able to do before
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
May 19 2017 13:20
I see
cartag
@cartag
May 19 2017 13:20
After we get the rules I can hammer a lot of it out in the GST. I'm thinking keywords like Infantry, Fly, Psyker, etc are going to be in GST, whereas Chaos, Daemon, Thousand Sons, etc are in CAT
I suggested a way to link entry groups to a tag. So say if you need to ass 1 Bloodthirster to a battalion, it would count as the three regular ones, Skarbrand, An'ggrath, etc
instead of having to link each and every one
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
May 19 2017 13:26
whats the big advantage though?
Currently you could have 3 SE, a SEG which links to the t3 SE and simply link to the SEG in the Battalion?
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
May 19 2017 13:42
Heh watching the live game on twitch - lots of little hints regarding 8e
Will Pattison
@GenWilhelm
May 19 2017 13:43
do tell
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
May 19 2017 13:44
Just little bits - like they're reaction to LRR and how it's gunna be
Will Pattison
@GenWilhelm
May 19 2017 13:46
LRR?
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
May 19 2017 13:46
Land raider redeemer
Will Pattison
@GenWilhelm
May 19 2017 13:47
the one with the flamestorms?
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
May 19 2017 13:47
Si
Will Pattison
@GenWilhelm
May 19 2017 13:49
oh man, i just realised you cant have heavy "template" weapons anymore
since they hit automatically theyre not affected by the -1 modifier if they move
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
May 19 2017 13:52
Yup
cartag
@cartag
May 19 2017 13:56
@Thairne advantage would be when they come out with a new unit. All you have to do is tag it and it gets added to every SEG for that tag automatically.
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
May 19 2017 13:58
I see. That would be nice, but since that does not happen that often I don't see it happening in the intermediate future
cartag
@cartag
May 19 2017 13:59
Is that a reason to not make the request? Didn't think so.
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
May 19 2017 14:00
it kind of is.
You have to give priority to things depending on the time required and the advantage gained.
If you can get more advantage by using your limited time for other features, those should gain priority.
with unlimited/enough time? Sure, do it. Right now I think other things require Jon's time way more
cartag
@cartag
May 19 2017 14:01
Am I telling him "do this right now?" No. It's a request. Not a demand.
I'll run every idea by you first, would that be better?
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
May 19 2017 14:02
got up on the wrong leg today?
Just telling you my opinion that it won't happen anytime soon.
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
May 19 2017 14:10
looks nice
chainswords suddenly doing something, power weapons being diverse, fists dealing with big stuff and tearing characters...
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
May 19 2017 14:11
I personally think it'll be fantastic for AoS, personally
-1 to hit, but still lethal
Hopefully that's the same way THammers work
cartag
@cartag
May 19 2017 14:12
I think you've gathered by now that I don't like you. I'll just ignore you from here on. Easiest solution.
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
May 19 2017 14:12
well thats news to me, but as you command.

@flakpanda
May 19 2017 16:22
i hope there is a 1-3 LoW detachment
but knights looks awesome
Simon Porter
@FarseerVeraenthis
May 19 2017 20:27
There's no formations, but there are detachments, which are similar but different to before...
And does the chainsword just give you an extra attack in combat, do we assume that is on top of the +1 for 2 close combat weapons... Or is that going away...
flakpanda
@flakpanda
May 19 2017 20:28
yeah, just currently that is that only detachment we have seen with any LoWs
Simon Porter
@FarseerVeraenthis
May 19 2017 20:28
All very exciting
flakpanda
@flakpanda
May 19 2017 20:28
im hoping there are some with like 1 to 3 LoW choices amoung other things
we dont know if there is +1 for 2CCWs yet
im only assuming there is because idk how to take guilliman yet except in that super heavy detachment
Simon Porter
@FarseerVeraenthis
May 19 2017 20:34
Have we sent his datasheet yet? Is he a LOW in the next edition, or just massively expensive HQ...
We already saw the basic detachments, and primarch are supposed to be one-man armies according to the fluff
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
May 19 2017 20:41
It's been confirmed on the FB that +1 for cs/bp is gone
Will Pattison
@GenWilhelm
May 19 2017 21:43
yeah, i doubt that pistols would be able to shoot in addition to counting as a CCW
and didnt they mention you can spend CP while army building to unlock additional options for your list, so maybe you can buy a LoW slot for a CP or two in certain detachments
