holy shit guys, I just simplified it further...
the multi force thing
why the hell do we even need the "regular" force in there? If we do a MF by default it will not require a subfaction, and then when you expand it it'll just add the same type of detachment automatically
Meaning we won't have two of each detachment type listed, just one, and it will be more seamless for end user
how did I not get that earlier....

well i was getting a list of checkbox options for weapons except lightning claws because the gst defined max 2...

@all I use a different way for PL that might save some of you some trouble.
I use 3 different ways:
  1. Squad without Squad leaders (e.g. all the same model): Use a repeating modifiers that increases PL per x Selections of model

  1. Squads with Sergeants use the standard "increase/set PL to when equals to X selections of Model
    helps due to the uneven numbers since the sergeants substracts one from the first increment
  2. and lastly, single models that can be added - simply add the PL to the entry of the model that is linked in the entry of the unit

yes, that is still a possible validation issue
but that is the same with set points equally
this is just less lines as it combines all multiples of 2 into one single modifier
not set pl to 24 if set pl to 36 if etc.

There's two real solutions - incrementing after "at least" thresholds are met, OR you could increase by 12 repeating for each 1 entry, then decrease by 12 for each 2 entries

"at least" still does not solve the validation issue. THe latter still wouldn't, since you can add 3, and ONLY 3 models. Once you add 1, you are in violation of the data sheet

I know, but a lot of them say "up to x" rather than "x"
Example: T'au Fire Warriors can add "up to" 5 for +2, or "up to" 7 for +3
in which case, the at least thresholds are still valid

If you want to optimize then you'd take the max for that power value, but you shouldn't (and aren't) locked into taking the max, just up to

If you set it to incitement every 5, rounded up, anything over 10 would trigger. If you can take up to 12 total, 11 and 12 would proc as they should

Okay, then have it increment if more than x, then a second to increment if greater than Y. Just put the different values in each

hm that repeating thing causes one issue.. since you obv. do not have a base pl, it does not show in the selection list until you select one. Then it magically appears...

Trouble with the entire PL way...
The setting of PL does not just affect the entry you modify, but the base entry...
So if you have a unit that got increased from 5 to 15 PL, once you add a second one that SHOULD only cost 5, it costs 15 too

To chime in way too late on power levels. Using a repeater will work so long as you Round up. I didn't even notice that was an option for some reason.

In many cases the 1st group cost more than additional Groups. For instance, up to 5 Stormboyz is 3 PL, up to the next 5 is +2 PL. So if you want to use a repeater, set the root entry to 1, and then each 5 will add +2.

@baadc0de You will have to make sure you install the latest BS. 2.01. I think that is still in Alpha. I'll post a link in a sec.

I didn't quite explain my solution fully. I set the base PL to whatever the base PL is. So for Stormboyz it is 3. Then I have a modifier with a condition for each modifier in the dataslate. Up to 5 more +2 PL. Up to 10 more +4 PL.

HOLY CRAP GUYS I just figured something else out... with how the detachments are now, we can FINALLY move FW into its own CAT! Just set it as SM Forge World or something like that, and have it as a separate army choice
We can throw an instruction in to the normal lists saying "to add FW do this" and then have one combined entry list for SM. Does that make sense?

If there is a separate file for SW, BA, DA, etc, each would have to have a copy of the FW entries in their own data files
So when we get FW rules, or a new model comes out, it has to be updated in X locations, instead of 1.

I think the UI for adding multiple factions to one army list is going to have a learning curve for the users, and FW in its own data files might actually lessen that somewhat.

@amis92 we can now do multi-faction detachments, after you select your main detachment like normal, you can add a sub-faction to it. Validation works as a whole. In this, you'd just have FW as a sub-faction

Patrol. Just a normal Patrol detachment like you'd pick even if you weren't doing a multi-faction list
and it's set up that way for almost all detachments (the ones that only contain 1 selection aren't for obvious reasons)

You could have a list like for Traitor Legions in 7th, list the categories and hide anything that's not part of that category

I'd imagine something like Cartag said, and with "main" factions that'd work mostly I think. The actual issue I see is these "placeholder" subfactions like Chapters, regiments, septs, dynasties, what have you.

Yeah. I talked with Jon about manipulation of catagories. To have catagories act like group entries kinda. And be able to change them all at once for hidden let's say. He was elated about the idea. Said it would be in the near future

The only thing I noticed is that Sentinals don't explode as big as other models, so you might update their explodes rule at some point.

Actually, Explodes shouldn't be shared IMO. The wording is deceitfully same but differs in range and number of mortal wounds from unit to unit.

It was acceptable when you're hitting on 2s, markerlights letting you reroll 1s

First round was awful - Imperial Knight, 2 min-size tac squads, celestine and her angel friends

Hammerheads + fusion collider ghostkeel put 16 wounds onto the knight turn 1, killed it turn 2 - it then exploded and did 6 mortal wounds to one of the tac squads, killing instantly from full strength. Celestine winged her way around a bit, she died turn 3 and failed to resurrect. Game ended then. Won on VP.

Second game was against store's Primaris - Inceptors dropped behind my lines turn 1, did a grand total of 1 wound to the Ghostkeel. He turned around and fired 3 Fusion Collider shots, dealing a grand total of 13 wounds and enough from each shot to each model to wipe the squad. The rest was just cleanup. Hellblasters + Primaris Ancient put some serious hurt on, but ion made short work of the models around the objective we were fighting over.
Third game was against Dark Eldar - 4 Venoms, 1 Raider, 1 Talos. 3 Raiders had 5 guys inside, last one had a succubus. Raider was 10 guys + Archon. Minmaxed to hell, each squad and model had the absolute maximum you could get for their power level without costing any more power level points. Lost that game, ended early due to time, 7-6 on victory points. Ghostkeel got stuck in combat for 2 turns due to the no retreat rule, DE blasters are terrifying against vehicles and large multi-wound models.
Although keels got worse, they didn't really get touched by the global points increase.

I think if you're taking Cyclic Ion Rakers, ATS is too good to give up. But you also really want Target Lock and a shield gen, so it's kinda difficult
Fusion Colliders have the potential to put on some serious hurt, though

Sniper Drones look reasonable - being able to target characters is interesting, but they're still just pulse rifles, so your mileage may vary
Also only hitting on 5s, 4 with a Marksman around
