Believe it or not, the current bugaboo is the rule Legiones Astartes... sort like Chapter Tactics, it gives certain units different rules per Legion.
Some of the Legiones Astartes give choices per army, others give a different rule based on unit type.

One of the team analyzed it and Legiones Astartes add 200k to the file and 96 conditions.

This shared rule is on like half of the units (basically anything that isn't a Vehicle or Primarch).

Goodness... That sounds like a lot of extra code... Now we have parent/child forces could you split a cat out per choice or somehow else?
Austin C.
@capitaladot
Jul 20 2017 06:48
Probably not, since the FoC is monolithic. You can basically have one Age of Darkness Force (basically Combined Arms with +1 HQ and +1 Elite), potentially with an Allied Force.
Is there a way to represent that monolithic Detachment with a child Force?

I can't think of one, since the units are what change slots, not the slots that change
Austin C.
@capitaladot
Jul 20 2017 07:03
For the units changing category, we just show/hide multiple copies with different primary category.
The real issue are the global per force rules that apply differently to unit and even armor types.
E. G., Raven Guard Infantry? Infiltrate. Raven Guard Jump Infantry? Infiltrate and Furious "Assault". Terminator armour, bike or jetbike? Furious "Assault".
Making this work on character upgrade equipment was... Interesting.

It sounds like we need a more performsnt way to do it. Seems to kill iOS clients and under provisioned Windows boxes.
Works fine on Android, MacOS, and Windows with an ssd and 16gb of ram.
Performant, even.

Sounds exactly like what happened to the big cats before 8th... Could you have a CAT per chapter tactic and put all the profiles and so on in the GST...? Would putting more stuff in the GST anyway help speed it up at all..?
Will Pattison
@GenWilhelm
Jul 20 2017 15:21
putting more stuff in the GST would slow everything else down, if anything
Austin C.
@capitaladot
Jul 20 2017 15:25
There is only one cat for Mehrines so adding to gst is sadly irrelevant.

I think it's a case of splitting down the marines by legion :(
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Jul 20 2017 15:28
But then literally everything is duplicated 18 times
Will Pattison
@GenWilhelm
Jul 20 2017 15:29
unless you just do it for the more complex ones, if there are any that are significantly worse than the others
Austin C.
@capitaladot
Jul 20 2017 15:30
They are all of similar complexity, and their special rules are on all non-Vehicle units.
This would mean forking to 18 files.
Iain Launchbury
@Mad-Spy
Jul 20 2017 15:31
yes, but at least the files will load. I can't even create a roster on my Surface here at work. It just times out if I try and create a Legiones army
CloverFox
@CloverFox
Jul 20 2017 15:32
maybe just put the special rules as a "rule", unfortunatly it will mean the lists arn't quite as nice as users will have to keep track of adjustments, but it mirrors the codexes anyway
Austin C.
@capitaladot
Jul 20 2017 15:34
I wonder if @Jonskichov can up the timeout?
I also wonder if unzipping is a factor.
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Jul 20 2017 15:35
I think while you're ok with it @ilaunchbury the vast majority of the 30k users will throw a royal fit because they can't switch between legions in one roster
Yes, they get that asinine
Iain Launchbury
@Mad-Spy
Jul 20 2017 15:37
well, they have a choice don't they? Either have files that don't load, or lose that option :)
Austin C.

My dropbox has my git checkout in it, so am using cat files (not catz).

CloverFox
@CloverFox
Jul 20 2017 15:39
you could simulate low ram pcs by passing arguments to the jvm as you load it
CloverFox
@CloverFox
Jul 20 2017 15:57
I dunno why I started looking at ram, but BS uses abtou 100MB on idle, and about 200MB when the space marines CAT is fully loaded and can run when limited to 32MB of ram... if anyone is interested

@alphalas in response to your seeker missile question: if you're going against any horde type army the ion is going to help more- I did something similar and a lot of my ork problems started to melt quicker. I had tried to use the seekers to blow up trucks, etc early on when I still had enough marker lights, but it didn't work out as planned...ditched all missiles got an ion (and moved some other things around to get another) and orks and nids are much easier without feeling it any harder against chaos/sm
Austin C.
@capitaladot
Jul 20 2017 16:07
So, maybe simply timeout instead of ram?
Hadn't occurred to me to ram limit the jvm.

hahaha!
I've been working my way through the Watchblade Taskforce that I sprayed the other day...
I seriously wish I'd built them before spraying them
but I'm making (admittedly slow) progress
