Using an entire sheet from codex vs index seems clear to me
if the unit has no sheet in the codex, use the one in the index
thats it
the muddy part for me is when it comes to missing wargear

@CrusherJoe Here's the thing though on the second pic you posted the sentence below the first red highlight specifically calls out options on a dreadnought as an example

What I do think is certain is that you can't simply use a datasheet from the index just because you want to

in matched play, yeah

if the sheet exists with no wargear changes in the dex, 100% you have to use the dex

the wargear thing, i think the real fuck is that, as usual, they didnt state clearly the intention
Alex Baur
@acebaur
Aug 13 2017 00:13
I think the intention is, they want you to buy more crap but didn't want an outrage at folks who spent a boatload of time and money converting or buying stuff that no longer exists lol
James
@skonk
Aug 13 2017 00:14
aye
you're right, but they could have done that while also being clear :)
the sentence they said needed splitting in to 2 points
address the missing sheets first, and then address the wargear
but its pretty typical with them now
why faq something once when you can faq the same question 3 or 4 times? :)
maybe they get paid by the word
Alex Baur
@acebaur
Aug 13 2017 00:15
yeah, I also think that GW doesn't parse words and rules like we players tend to do
they use Occums Razor and play for fun and "forging the narrative"

Well anyway my take is this. Missing data sheets, use the index for the data sheet AND points. Missing wargear, use the index for the datasheet and the codex for the points unless the wargear item is not listed in the codex at all, otherwise use the points for the wargear from the index. Data sheets that exist fully intact within the Codex, use the datasheets and points from the codex.

I agree completely

@WindstormSCR

the TL;DR from the way I've been approaching it in mobile is "you can only use older datasheets with the same name if the index version has deprecated wargear options"
so no torrp berzerkers anymore or other similar wankery, because the only Superseding RAW from july 5th and 22nd stuff is "we assume newest datasheets and points costs" which is good enough for me

So I'm a bit lost. I'm almost done working on the DW Cat and I've read the tutorial on Forking but still don't quite get how it works to get the file I have on my PC onto the github
Joe Beddoe
@CrusherJoe

You have to upload it to your fork and then make a Pull Request into the Main branch of wh40k

@WindstormSCR that's the way I see it, Codex replaces index. The only reason for using the index is for datasheets that don't exist in the codex, or to combine options into codex datasheets that don't exist in the codex. So there can't be two of the same datasheets in the CAT (with different roles) because there is only one datasheet in the Codex...

how do i update my data from github instead of the appspot data source? Appspot seems behind.

When you fork, it forks the entire database right not just the one cat?
Iain Launchbury
@Mad-Spy
Aug 13 2017 11:53
Yes. That's right.
@Jonnehs, yes, it's usually a little behind. Either clone or directly download the repository into your BS data directory. There are instructions on the wiki.

So what I'm reading is most (if not all) of as agree on the situation with codex replacing index -- and there is strong evidence that this is what GW supports as well.
In fact I would go so far as to say it's RAW
Not even RAI

After my game last night I think I cracked the code on a beta strike (or at least doesn't fear alpha strikes as much) army
My friend has been really excited about an all-Primaris, almost-all-plasma Raven Guard army

Just when I needed more work to do, GW go and release an errata for Index Chaos!
I'm on it. It'll be done either tonight or tomorrow night.

All the point and PL changes are done plus the new powers. Just need to redo Plague Marines, add in the Daemons and finish Artefacts.

I don't trust anything else other than 2-part clear epoxy for large FW stuff

im currently agonising over how to split my chaos models up into actual legions
and which legions to use
WindstormSCR
@WindstormSCR
Aug 13 2017 23:45
easy, they are all alpharius infiltrating different other legions
James
@skonk
Aug 13 2017 23:45
heh
easy ones are thousand sons and DG, I have silly quantities of their own dedicated models so thats those done
i have a shit load of mk3 stuff that WAS my death guard in 7th... but now in 8th it can't actually be death guard
cos its things like marines, bikes, havocs, raptors etc...
WindstormSCR
@WindstormSCR
Aug 13 2017 23:46
I haven't read the new dex, but so far AL looks like the better of the bunch
James
@skonk
Aug 13 2017 23:46
so the mk3 stuff im thinking alpha legion
WindstormSCR
@WindstormSCR
Aug 13 2017 23:47

James
@skonk
Aug 13 2017 23:47
primarily as a shooty army with the havocs sat at the back with -1 to being hit
my berzerkers and kharn to form the basis of a world eaters army, so that needs enough stuff allocating to flesh it out
and the rest as black legion
thats my thoughts so far
i will have to divvy my vehicles up between them as needed and then potentially buy extra stuff if needed
some of my forgeworld stuff that had been for the DG should still work fine
so the leviathans and mk1 style rhinos, preds and scorpius. since all the new DG models are theme on mk3 armour anyway they still fit i think
i'll shift my deredeo over to the alpha legion set i think
im pretty sure the legion traits work on those too, cos legion traits when they say infantry, bikes and helbrutes they are all bold and in caps.. so that would be refering to keywords wouldnt it?
and the forgeworld dreads all have the helbrute keyword now
James
