Nah, you need an avatar of khaine, was merrily chewing through a unit of plague bearers last night while buffing everything nearby to ignore morale... Worked nicely for the most part, although guardians still die horribly quickly to bolter fire, even if they don't run away...

i feel some old school tactics are going to start appearing again. I'm already considering rhino/devilfish sniping where you use your own vehicles to block LOS to units so you can only see characters

not very because you'd have to block all LoS, and most armies have bodyguard units
company vets, drones for tau, hive guard, etc
craftworld eldar are notable in the lack of such a thing

I really wish they hadn't done away with the cover save in 8th
I think pretty much all of the current issues with stuff like alpha strike or the simple fact that going first generally = a win would be fixed by changing it back to having 4+ and 5+ cover saves and allowing cover for being shot at through terrain
terrain plays almost no tactical part in the game any more :(
outside of LOS blocking which most official terrain kits don't do much of without house ruling it so you can shoot through the bottom floors

I like AP to do what it does now but for cover to be it's own save like it used to be. Ignores Cover should be a -1 not total removal of cover and like in 7th you use which ever save, Sv, Cover Sv or Invuln Sv is best (or preferred)

I hate that so many armies have -4 AP weapons on mass (or better), 8th is so much worse than 7th for having to pick up handfuls of models and remove them without being able to roll any saves at all

multiple saves is what caused the cancer slide in 5th >> 7th
it is more responsible for fuckery than anything else because the designers didn't respect the purpose, so we ended up with bullshit like 2+ rerollable cover walking through an open field

current cover mechanics work just fine, 90% of the alpha strike is shooting, so use the night fight rules from the cloak and shadows maelstrom mission for T1

there is too much scope right now for armies to get weapons that either totally remove your saves or reduce them to 6+'s and for you to be wiped out on turn 1 to the point of not being able to come back from it

interestingly: the only armies I've seen having that issue are armies that are trying to spam specific elite units without transports
any armies I've seen take a mix of baseline and elites with some durable transports for the elites has never been alpha struck (even when I was doing my level best to achieve a turn-1 table for rules test

make a list of SM's with 1 of every unit, no spam and then put it against some dark eldar with a load of ravagers and shit and enjoy being hit from 36+ inches away with -4 AP wounding you on 2+ and you having ZERO save against it

My deployment was one of my main problems last night, 10 man squads of guardians don't last long against a contemptor and bolters... Although, it was funny when his deamon Prince charged my wraithlord, my avatar heroic intervention'd, Prince killed the wraithlord, avatar killed the Prince, it was a bit of a surprise outcome on both sides!!

might end up doing 5 bikes just to give a little padding to avoid the dark lance bikes dying right away to sustained fire
