well, I found the bits I need, next weekend I'm doing a trade for my remaining AoS stuff to the tune of $350
so I'll be able to get the rest of the things I need for kitbashing corsairs

Not bad
I just did a batch wash of nihilakh oxide on some death stuff with my new airbrush
Holy cow it's great
Did all but the back 3 spirit hosts, the green on the Mortis engine, and the 9 ghouls in about half an hour
tekton
@tekton
Sep 09 2017 02:57
@alphalas I have a lot of those to do soon- the nihilakh actually did ok in the airbrush? any tips to mixing it before hand?
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Sep 09 2017 03:01
Yeah - I just dumped straight from the pot - probably could have thinned a little - but the trick is to spray wet and quick
If you loiter with the spray pattern it becomes basically a layer paint
So do a really wet coat; but quick

@alphalas be careful putting not airbrush metalics thru an airbrush. can clog up sometimes.
also spraying a wash can aometimes not look the same as applying it by brush
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Sep 09 2017 03:27
Yeah that's why I said wet and quick
Otherwise it just evenly covers, doesn't pool up right, and just looks not great

@WindstormSCR yup, all my aspects are metal :smile: I also have 10 metal wraithguard, 2 metal wraithlord, all sorts, I love the weight....
@alphalas I've been looking at getting an airbrush too, what pressure do you run the compressor at? Which compressor do you use?
And the Corsairs look ace, heavily dark Eldar influenced

@FarseerVeraenthis I have an Iwata Eclipse HP-CS. I run it about 17-19 PSI when trigger is pressed.

Yeah, just kabalite bodies with some of the spikes trimmed where appropriate, and will be using greenstuff to make the tabards look more cloth-like

@CrusherJoe
Sep 09 2017 13:06
I spray right at 25 PSI
Vallejo Model Air metallics are your friend for spraying metallics
And I spray washes through the brush all the time -- I like the tint/darkening effect without the "wash" effect, or you can hose it on for both effects

Sep 09 2017 13:18
I'd actually have to look at my regulator to see what I have mine set at - I use the spray pattern to adjust it
So if you put some liquid in the brush, and do a wide open spray at something, you want the liquid to evenly spread out, not spider out
Joe Beddoe
@CrusherJoe
Sep 09 2017 13:24
If it's spidering out your pressure is probably set too high or your nozzle is too close to the mini
Or (in my case, anyway) you've gotten a little heavy with the airbrush thinner and are basically blasting paint-tinted thinner through your brush LOLOLOLOL

@FarseerVeraenthis I actually use a Harbor Freight special compressor- need to eventually upgrade to one with a pressure tank so it's not running continuously
Simon Porter
@FarseerVeraenthis
Sep 09 2017 13:51
Thanks everyone for the info :smile: I have a compressor in my garage
But I just need to decide on a brush, and take the plunge

I have this one
It's been great -- and the price is right LOL
Remember: "I'm not cheap, I'm just cut-rate in a low-budget world."
A friend has one of these:
And it's okay -- it's certainly quiet
Mine....is NOT quiet, but it has a big tank so it doesn't run that much
That's what I'm using

@FarseerVeraenthis I can highly recommend the Iwata Neo gravity feed one
It's the one I recommended to @alphalas
It can be had for around $50 at Hobby Lobby with the 40% coupon
And it's a quality instrument

Sep 09 2017 14:01
Yup, that's been on my amazon wishlist for a while now... I also have a paasche talon on there I think... Probably will get the iwata mind :smile: :+1:

Sep 09 2017 14:02
Whatever you do learn from the mistakes of others and don't get one of those cheap harbour freight airbrushes...they're complete trash and will break on you at an alarming rate LOL
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Sep 09 2017 14:03
Yeah I broke 2 of them lolol

Sep 09 2017 18:38
I have the Eclipse HP-CS for detail/important parts, and use one of the cheap Master brushes for primer/broad base coats
