Ended up subscribing to GW's twitch to try to get to the bottom of if TS can use the feckin Rubric sheet from the CSM dex
the GW guys all say yes so far but once i repeated the issue about 8 times now they aint sure lol
Iain Launchbury
@Mad-Spy
Sep 29 2017 14:15
is it in an FAQ? If not, I ain't updating it :)
(or WHC post)
James
@skonk
Sep 29 2017 14:42
It seems they think the article they did when the SM codex came out covers this, as in use the most up to date sheet
but didnt understand the issue with the Troops and Elites versions of the sheet
Dan now understands the issue
and he's gonna go grab a rules writer during the break and ask
Iain Launchbury
@Mad-Spy
Sep 29 2017 14:52
I can see that, but it doesn't help those ppl who haven't bought a Codex because their specific army doesn't have one. Thus, they can't know the new costs.
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Sep 29 2017 14:53
^this.
Iain Launchbury
@Mad-Spy
Sep 29 2017 14:53
so how can they list build for tourneys?
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Sep 29 2017 14:53
and since GW was adamant that index users use the index default....
James
@skonk
Sep 29 2017 14:53
They would use the index
GW stance has always been use the most recent publication you own
THis is exactly what they said with the spells
if you own the Index only you get the 3 spells in the index
if you buy the CSM codex you get to use all 7 (for thousand sons i mean)
how is that any different? own the index, use the index sheet/costs, own the codex, use the codex
Iain Launchbury
@Mad-Spy
Sep 29 2017 14:55
OK, I'm going to an official event and I have to submit my list. I haven't bought a Codex, so I use index costs. My opponent uses the same army, but bought a Codex. They now get a cheaper army than me because they spent the money?
James
@skonk
Sep 29 2017 14:56
yup
which is as i said, exactly what GW said is the case with spells
Iain Launchbury
@Mad-Spy
Sep 29 2017 14:56
well, that's some bullshit right there.
James
@skonk
Sep 29 2017 14:56
it is
but thats what GW said
you run a TS army and only own the Index, you can cast 3 spells
i rock up with the same list but i own the codex, i get 7 spells
thats how it is right now
Iain Launchbury
@Mad-Spy
Sep 29 2017 14:57
and cheaper PFs, cultists, better Rubrics?
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Sep 29 2017 14:57
no costs are still index
#1414
Iain Launchbury
@Mad-Spy
Sep 29 2017 14:58
Jon, I'm arguing with GW's apparent stance, based on what skonk has said happened on the stream.
not what we have already agreed we're doing.
James
@skonk
Sep 29 2017 14:59
From the discussion on the stream its as follows.....
initially they all thought it was obvious that TS could use the updated data sheet
i pushed the point more to get them to understand why TS currently CANT use it
Dan went off to check, finally understanding what the issue was
and he now agrees that the current situation is indeed that TS cant use the updated sheet
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Sep 29 2017 15:00
good
Iain Launchbury
@Mad-Spy
Sep 29 2017 15:01
ok, well then that's how I think it should be.
James
@skonk
Sep 29 2017 15:01
So all I put to him was to ask the rules writers to confirm, since they have said its fine to buy the CSM book and use the new spells, can they confirm in a non-ambiguous way whether you can use the data sheet or not
CloverFox
@CloverFox
Sep 29 2017 15:01
isn't it assumed your always useing the latest, if you only own the index thats your problem not anyone elses, unless you make a friendly decision, i mean i could go back and play 2nd ed, but i'm not gonna use 2nd ed codex in 8th am i
James
@skonk
Sep 29 2017 15:02
You do use the most up to date rules CloverFox
the oddity here is that the index has 2 data sheets for the same unit
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Sep 29 2017 15:02
you use the most up-to-date version of your published faction
James
@skonk
Sep 29 2017 15:02
one is a troop, one is an elite and they have different legion keywords
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Sep 29 2017 15:02
faction TSons is different from Faction CSM
that's the issue
James
@skonk
Sep 29 2017 15:02
tell that to the GW guy who said TS can use the spells from the CSM book Jonm
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Sep 29 2017 15:03
exactly - i think right hand doesn't know what the left is doing.
Iain Launchbury
@Mad-Spy
Sep 29 2017 15:03
how could you possibly suggest such a thing!! :P
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Sep 29 2017 15:03
lololol
ikr? i mean, it's not like FW didn't know 8e was coming until the actual announcemen.... oh wait.
James
@skonk
Sep 29 2017 15:05
I just wanted the rules writers to know this debate was going on (I know not so much in here cos you have agreed to how you do it, but it IS going on in the real world with a lot of people assuming they CAN use the new sheet) - I want a solid Yes or No from GW about it and then I can stop thinking about it
Will Pattison
@GenWilhelm
Sep 29 2017 15:46
i wonder how many reports we'll get for FW russes not having the new grinding advance
Alex Baur
@acebaur
Sep 29 2017 15:47
Countless no doubt lol
Will Pattison
@GenWilhelm
Sep 29 2017 15:48
on the same note, i wonder if FW will errata it so they have the new one
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Sep 29 2017 15:48
god i hope so
otherwise, DK went from being the that guy army to being garbage
Iain Launchbury
@Mad-Spy
Sep 29 2017 20:32
@alphalas, @GenWilhelm, I was feeling bored so I picked up #1514 and #1519. They just need merging in.
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Sep 29 2017 20:32
Cool - you put up a pull req?
Iain Launchbury
@Mad-Spy
Sep 29 2017 20:33

That one
tekton
@tekton
Sep 29 2017 21:11
nice! Part of me also wants to do that, but I'll be going Armageddon for the most part ><
flakpanda
@flakpanda
Sep 29 2017 21:18
So Armageddon is not steal legion anymore? Or just a hope focused version
tekton
@tekton
Sep 29 2017 21:19
Steel Legion is part of the Armageddon forces from what was released today
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Sep 29 2017 21:22
Now that I have an airbrush I feel confident enough to attempt the scheme
tekton
@tekton
Sep 29 2017 21:23
@alphalas i hope it goes well; that would be awesome to see some pictures of when it's done

Curse my addiction, I just bought Morty...
tekton
@tekton
Sep 29 2017 21:29
going to the dark side, eh?
flakpanda
@flakpanda
Sep 29 2017 21:29
He was only $36 tho 😁
I have a Tzeentch army, I've been on the dark side.

HERESY!
ah, that felt good after a long, long time.
flakpanda
@flakpanda
Sep 29 2017 21:30
Don't worry I still play admech
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Sep 29 2017 21:30
still heresy!
tekton
@tekton
Sep 29 2017 21:31
finishing Cawl is the first major project after we move (escrow closed yesterday...now the fun of contractors!)
flakpanda
@flakpanda

Sep 29 2017 21:32
@Thairne I couldn't pass up Morty for $36 tho
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Sep 29 2017 21:32
IRL I totally understand
but it is my duty as Old Man Heresy to call you out on it :P
flakpanda
@flakpanda
Sep 29 2017 21:33
To be fair, if it wasn't for AdMech you wouldn't have all your fancy toys
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Sep 29 2017 21:35
DA had fancy toys before EMps flew to Mars ;)
tekton
@tekton
Sep 29 2017 21:36
The Adeptus Mechanicus are logical, loyal members of the Imperium- so, no heresy on Mars, nope, none here.
flakpanda
@flakpanda
Sep 29 2017 21:37
^
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Sep 29 2017 21:37
TECHNICALLY the Imperium is just allied with the AdMech. That'S why the Inqusition can fuck off concerning the AdMech and AdMech has it's own Inquisition (The Lords Dragon e.g.)
flakpanda
@flakpanda
Sep 29 2017 21:38
You guys still worship a corpes that hated that.
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Sep 29 2017 21:39
well TECHNICALLY he willingly slipped into the Mantle of the Omnissiah. And if you believe in the Void Dragon theory, he even caused it and planned for it :P
tekton
@tekton
Sep 29 2017 21:39
I got the feeling from most of the Lore and how they even wrote the codex this time that post-Heresy they see themselves as basically members of the Imperium, not just allies anymore.
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Sep 29 2017 21:39
for all intents and purposes yes
but still they have treaties with the Imperium, are not members of it.
one cannot live without the other
flakpanda
@flakpanda
Sep 29 2017 21:41
I just hope guilliman turns the imperium back towards hereay era logic and technology
tekton
@tekton
Sep 29 2017 21:41
Would be nice; I like hover tanks and decent airships
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Sep 29 2017 21:41
and fuck the setting entirely? I wouldn't wait to see that if I were you... but there's Cawl.. and he's quite radical.
I just feel that would change the "feel" of 40k too much tbh
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Sep 29 2017 21:43
then do :P
Just make a fluffy lil explanation about why the custodes help out Admech
flakpanda
@flakpanda
Sep 29 2017 21:43
Tbh I think the setting needs a good shake. I Know things are progressing, but I mean a drastic one
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Sep 29 2017 21:43
ancient treaty, STC print discovered, replacement part for the golden throne etc.
Primaris Marines, Guilliman, Magnus&Mortation, Noctus Aeterna and the Great Rift?
Guard being top tier army? :D

@flakpanda
Sep 29 2017 21:45
Feels like early 5th with them being good.

@Thairne
Sep 29 2017 21:46

tekton
@tekton
Sep 29 2017 21:46
We actually do have a game set that's going to be bridging that! Our December Campaign for my local group is going to be on a planet that jumped out of the warp due to the chasm that got opened and it was engulfed during a battle at the start of the Heresy...so that way people can use "reasonable rules" for their 30k items fighting along side their 40k items. But the planet is on a timer and will be sucked 5 weeks after planetfall...very sad.

Steel legion are going to be sleeper good I think
everyone seems to be trashing them vs mordians and others

Sep 29 2017 22:06
@alphalas thanks for the reminder

@WindstormSCR
Sep 29 2017 23:09
while I like the direction of those 8th ed rules for 30k they still need work
specifically the RG stuff the guys making it didn't seem to understand the purpose of the units, and the Lord of War rule they put on primarchs makes sense for some of them but for others it is an absolutely terrible peice of rules writing
the same issue with mor deythan follow on to some other units, where its painfully clear that the guys doing the translation have either never faced them or tried to understand what the unit does in practice vs theory for 7th
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Sep 29 2017 23:36
Say something- they’re very open to suggestions
I pointed out the SW rite pretty much completely wrote out a viable unit from 7e and they said they were gunna change it
