I think I dislike them because I don't like the fact that the new race can outshoot one of the oldest races in the galaxy (Eldar) and for some reason that makes me salty... Also I remember I had some rough games against tau when they very first came out and that made me dislike them...
I think it's also the fact that they get shiny new toys and... Eldar don't...
I know that's the case with other Armies but I don't play them so I can't comment :+1:
which is why i judge stuff more based on results of the larger events
local meta plays a big part in individuals opinions on stuff like
When I did play Tau it was often against Orks, Space Marines, AdMech, Dark Eldar, Eldar, Necrons
but I also played Necrons and various types of Chaos
I lost most games with the Tau against anything other than Eldar but I only started winning against Eldar when I started including a Culexus Assassin in my list to counter the psychic guff
when I started pretty much exclusively playing Chaos Space Marines, which at the time were generally considered weak and not competitive at all.... I basically won every game I played.
But as i said, I don't base my opinion of how strong an army is on my own limited experience with them, rather I look at (or used to when I had more interest in it) I would read up on the results of all the major events to see a better sample size of data
We have Eldar winning most stuff again right now (specifically craftworld units run as ynnari) but I actually don't think they're particularly overpowered... they just have the tools to do well against anything. LVO was very close to being a weird imperial soup list vs eldar in the final and it was mainly down to shinannigans that it ended up with a final between 2 mirrored lists of eldar/ynnari
Can't really judge anything in 8th till all the codexes are out because the released of a codex that can counter the current strongest lists could totally change which faction rules the roost.
looking at the leaks from T'au codex, I have a glimmer of hope for Necrons ...a slow burning ember of hope that is so easily dowsed I have to be careful when I weep for the passing of Guard / Guilliman-star in their moment of glory
