In the case you want to change commit message (and you didn't push yet, or you pushed to your own branch), you can amend the commit message, I'm not sure there's an easy option in GUI you use.
In GitHub for desktop (the new one) you can immediately Undo commit (which goes back to the state before you hit "Commit" button.
In Command Line you can
git commit --amend - this will open default text editor and allow you to change the message. After you save and exit the editor, the commit is amended.
If you already pushed to your own fork/branch, just do
git push --force. If you pushed to master, never do that (and also it will fail because it's protected from such heresy).
