the problem is, people who are "subscribed" to the issue (as a thread) will get an email with the unhelpful comment anyway - deleting them in Git simply makes it difficult for anyone who wasn't subscribed prior to the deletion to see the whole conversation
it is also the case that we have had "heated debates" previously and deleting comments has simply inflamed the situation
@Mad-Spy regarding comments, there's a new option to hide unhelpful comments since about half a year or so. It's probably best of both worlds, ie. it leaves a post, but it's hidden and visibly marked as unhelpful/spammy etc.

this is how it's been handled for all derivative codexes (BA/DA/SW/DW) because otherwise a bunch of things that have models don't work
