^ IT's not snipers in general
it's the arqebus

lets put it this way
it's the single reason my skitarii aren't being replaced by kitbashed van-saar gangers for a CP battery
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Oct 21 2018 08:42
that is honestly surprising the shit out of me

consider that the next best sniper available game-wide is the vindicare
and the cost of him
and the actual best sniper in the game is an autarch or wraithseer with the sniper WL trait
ratlings only rate because they're so dirt cheap you can just volley shots until some of them leave a mark
SM sniper scouts are awful, and eldar rangers aren't much better
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Oct 21 2018 10:37
and with S7 they might even be able to plonk that last wound of a vehicle
I see
WindstormSCR
@WindstormSCR
Oct 21 2018 10:40
yep
also consider basilisks and some other problem targets are T6
but S7 also means that anything T3 is being wounded on 2s
so eldar anything, guard stuff
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Oct 21 2018 10:42
especially guard stuff. Like characters.

i cant wait to see how my skitarii snipers + castellan perform against necron. i am a little bit afraid all skitarii are tabled first round from some teslas. but these mortal dealing necron chars have to die^^
they are somehow worsee than smite

I love how people are citing the 500 facts for 500 stores article as confirming the emprah is perpetual
But the list itself even says not all its facts are true lol
H4lek1n
@H4lek1n
Oct 21 2018 14:33
well i can concur this
If you say “anything but a 1” before rolling a dice, you have a 74% chance of rolling a 1.
H4lek1n
@H4lek1n
Oct 21 2018 14:48
i just read the list and know understand what perpetual means^^
its actually stated as a fact in several novels which include perpetuals. what of course still doesnt have to mean a thing, but they seem sure at least
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Oct 21 2018 14:53
Oh yes Vulcan is a confirmed perpetual; it’s the emperor they’ve never confirmed previously. The whole starchild theory revolves around the emperor being a perpetual; but again, it’s a theory because they’ve never confirmed that the emperor is a perpetual
Cited in Mark of Calth. I figured it was known before.
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Oct 21 2018 14:57
isnt the starchild theory WAYYY older than the perpetual stuff?
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Oct 21 2018 14:59
@Thairne It keeps coming back
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Oct 21 2018 15:00

like Inquisition-wars old?

and if he truly is a perpetual, which would makes sense.. why did he which to be locked into the throne? That would imply he didn't know or he had a plan. And considering how he grasped at Guiliman being back I dont think he had a plan... plus it was written in some book, I think master of mankind, that he couldnt see past that point in the future where he "died"...

Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Oct 21 2018 15:03
But aren't perpetual's not exactly immortal in the sense that they can't die, but they will always come back? Meaning he can die, and that would be slightly* bad until he is resurrected
*read really really really bad.
For the Imperium, I mean it'd be pretty good for chaos.
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Oct 21 2018 15:04
Yes, but in the calm after the storm after horus' defeat it would probably be the best time for it to actually do it
and if I remember right, Vulkan just regenerated within hours or days..
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Oct 21 2018 15:05
I'm not sure hours would even be alright. He's kind of the psychic linchpin for the entirety of the imperium.
H4lek1n
@H4lek1n
Oct 21 2018 15:05
there is some organisation of human and eldar perpetuals called the cabal i think. and several times they come up several members state it as a fact that the emp is one of them. but they say it and not the narrator, which would give some way out. i think one novel i saw it was when the ultramarine homeworld was besieged and john grammaticus showed up at calth
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Oct 21 2018 15:06
Every ship in warp would be lost, hell the death of the greatest psyker could very well kill numerous other psykers in the imperium
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Oct 21 2018 15:06
If the golden throne flickers for more than a second the imperium would be an absolute chaos. The emperor cannot die because then the golden throne would not have somebody to control it and would blink out
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Oct 21 2018 15:06

true, but remember the ruinstorm... or the current warpstorm thingy. It blocks out the astronomican, so a few hours...

And instead numerous other psykers get fed to the throne each day

Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Oct 21 2018 15:07
Thousands per day to save trillions.
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Oct 21 2018 15:07
you dont need the throne though
the imperium was fine during the crusade
thousands per day start to add up tho.. after 10k years...
and I dont think trillions would die during a few hours
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Oct 21 2018 15:07
Mind, I have no love for a skeleton on a chair. My skeletons go doot doot with lightning guns. But I think It'd be as Jon said - absolute chaos.
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Oct 21 2018 15:07
especially not with E back in the seat
H4lek1n
@H4lek1n
Oct 21 2018 15:08
and why the emp has to stay at the throne is explained by the fact he has to hold the warp gate there or something like that and not only maintain the astrothingy
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Oct 21 2018 15:08
@Thairne sure, but both those warp storms only affect a granted decent sized but only a portion of the imperium. The astronomical I’m blanking out for the entire galaxy would be lost on an astronomical scale
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Oct 21 2018 15:08

ah
yes
The webway magnus fucked up

that is a fair point

Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Oct 21 2018 15:09
"Magnus did plenty of things wrong"
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Oct 21 2018 15:09
terra would be boned
and with terra gone, morale would plummet and THAT would be unrecoverable instead of 3h of no light
H4lek1n
@H4lek1n
Oct 21 2018 15:09
that was actually explicit metnioned in some novel but dont ask me which. probably one of the last heresy about him
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Oct 21 2018 15:10
and the fact that that is the way malcador passed away and the heresy could spread as mightily as it did
H4lek1n
@H4lek1n
Oct 21 2018 15:15
i have to add every novel i read regarding this left ways to change canon. either some character stated those "facts" instead of the narrator or as in master of mankind the author said "it could have been like this"
not that the black library would not just say skrew canon anyway^^
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Oct 21 2018 15:30
they're kind of dicks that way.. ^^
H4lek1n
@H4lek1n
Oct 21 2018 15:33
who can blame them with an universe that big and also an evolving game system
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Oct 21 2018 15:34
true, but SOME effort could be made.. sometimes it feels like they aint even trying
H4lek1n
@H4lek1n
Oct 21 2018 15:34
that might be true in some cases^^
but i am rather more annoyed by the amount of bolter porn and the fact that there are worlds between novel space marines and ingame marines. in the novels you think there are demi gods whereas you have to be afraid from a las pistol ingame. they could tone it tone down in the novels..
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Oct 21 2018 15:48
but if you did that it'd read like a sci fi historical novel
You have to have that outrageous unstoppable soldiers in the books
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Oct 21 2018 15:49
but even that they cant get right
in one book, marines get slaughtered like guardsmen
and in the next book they stop dark eldar raids without any ammo
some consistancy in the power levels would be awesome
H4lek1n
@H4lek1n
Oct 21 2018 16:21
in general imo the ones wihtout marines are better, with the possible exception of the william king space wolves books. there it seems only natural like kohato said. but if you compare the 40k novels with other military science fiction like battletech for example, black library leaves a lot to be desired.

I feel like GW did this one to themselves
Even the Primaris one the book dropped and then models came out each week-felt like it worked well, why not do it again?! :(
