First try at zenithal
Dirk Bachert
@Thairne
Feb 26 2019 08:29 UTC
good one
I would recommend going in 45° with your medium highlight tho since pure zenital is just a tad boring in itself
or use it on toecaps, kneecaps or other "protruding" bits a bit

@CrusherJoe Any luck on those gun mounts from the prints? I know you said you were doing a test print at one point, just curious if it turend out well

I’ve had more luck with my own 3D stuff, finally got the settings for 0.1mm layer ABS nailed down
and ordered some empty paint markers for acetone smoothing and some filler/primer for final finish
Going to make an entire ZM board and some extra terrain for a Killteam/necro table

Ugh, blue stuff/green stuff molding is a pain in the absolute ass

Good day, can someone help me with uploading repository files so they can be accessed with the BS data Manager?
Open an issue there :D

I want to make my files for Warhammer Armies Project publicly accessible so people can easily download it with BS instead of asking me for the files and copying them manually into their folder.
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Feb 26 2019 17:31 UTC
Then yep, that'd be the place to go. Open an issue there, @amis92 will help out.

Did he just call an AT-AT an @@ ... and a gundam kit?
That aside, those seem nice. Though maybe not 50$ nice.

@alphalas
Feb 26 2019 17:51 UTC
To be fair even Lucas himself is on film calling them @@s lol
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD

haha

Huh, didn't know Bandai made SW kits

Feb 26 2019 17:55 UTC
Mmmhm there are several Bandai SW kits
I’ve been tempted to get the TIE
WindstormSCR
@WindstormSCR
Feb 26 2019 17:57 UTC
its marketing bull. The best cutters I’ve ever used were the old black-handle citadel ones from 4e. Perfectly flush, good grip, still working like new even after use on resins, white metals, etc
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Feb 26 2019 17:58 UTC
I use a pair of blank blue ones from Hobby Lobby whose rocker spring has broken
and actually prefer it because I have more pressure control when I'm not using a spring :p

@WindstormSCR

GW may have gone to shit at times, but the citadel tools guys never made shitty stuff from my experience
L3610N115
@L3610N115
Feb 26 2019 18:06 UTC
I think their quality is fine but the prices are exaggerated. You usually get the same tools they offer with similar quality but for a better price if I am not mistaken.

Feb 26 2019 18:16 UTC
@WindstormSCR you say your prints are doing well on your printer?
WindstormSCR
@WindstormSCR
Feb 26 2019 18:17 UTC
Yeah, but I’m not trying to do super intricate detail, mostly terrain designed for 0.1mm layer
Iain Launchbury
@Mad-Spy
Feb 26 2019 18:18 UTC
@alphalas, do you mean the Bandai 1:72 models? I have the TIE, TIE X1 and X-wing.
WindstormSCR
@WindstormSCR
Feb 26 2019 18:18 UTC
Biggest thing to know when designing for AM is the printer limits. If I could print in resin I’d have a much easier time of things doing infantry-scale detail

How is it it seems like Valkyrie canopy bits are one of the single most rare bits to find a bit sellers anymore?
Like seriously, wtf
WindstormSCR
@WindstormSCR
Feb 26 2019 18:20 UTC
My holy grail is eventually being able to afford one of the low-end stratasys Polyjet Machines, but those aren’t going to be in the sub five figures for a while
Jon Kissinger
@alphalas
Feb 26 2019 18:21 UTC
Like seriously though
I just need 2 sets of the clear bits and all 5 frame bits, and one of the joiner bits for the two canopies
But the bits sellers that do have the canopies in stock bundle the filler bit with the cockpit subassembly, not the canopies
gah!
-.-
@CrusherJoe 's Printer is being maintenenced due to some weather fun, so If you are getting results, I'd love to pay for your print time/materials for some bits :D

@WindstormSCR
Feb 26 2019 18:44 UTC
@DrTobogganMD I can give it a go, I have an onager kit unassembled because of my Van saar spider tank project to test with
will run a test print tonight
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Feb 26 2019 18:45 UTC
Ideally - https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3402744 would be a better print
but it notes that the sizes might be off
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2676097 has been up for a while and seems the right size, but that first one just looks better.
WindstormSCR
@WindstormSCR
Feb 26 2019 18:46 UTC
Worst case I rebuld it in CAD
:P
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Feb 26 2019 18:46 UTC
Oh nice. If you can get 3402744 to fit the dunecrawler I'd love you if you could print me 6 sets of them (the mount and end cap)
I'd pay whatever you want
outside of favors of a dubious nature
WindstormSCR
@WindstormSCR
Feb 26 2019 18:47 UTC
half my oil/cooling tower stuff right now is custom designed to fit around old quaker oats packages
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Feb 26 2019 18:47 UTC
Then I just need to locate 2 mounting plates for the weapons because apparently those aren't in any print files anywhere :/
Oh yea?
Just glue them on box corners and paint?
WindstormSCR
@WindstormSCR
Feb 26 2019 18:47 UTC
just turn it upside down, glu on pipe and printed bits, filler/prime, done
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Feb 26 2019 18:48 UTC
Huh, well that's quick and easy
WindstormSCR
@WindstormSCR
Feb 26 2019 18:48 UTC
the cylinder packs
like you get from supermarkets, the quaker quick 1-minute stuff
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Feb 26 2019 18:48 UTC
yea
those would work nice for silos
WindstormSCR
@WindstormSCR
Feb 26 2019 18:49 UTC
its 9.5 in high, so can double level at sector mech height
I just print the platforms in quarters
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Feb 26 2019 18:51 UTC
oh that's not bad then, no changes for each corner either, just 4x each to wrap the tube
WindstormSCR
@WindstormSCR
Feb 26 2019 18:53 UTC
yep
eception being one I need to make for double-silo configuration
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Feb 26 2019 18:54 UTC
Yea, that'd be fine for 2 of them, but then you'd need a Y style platform or two.
WindstormSCR
@WindstormSCR
Feb 26 2019 18:54 UTC
Yep, but nice and easy still
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Feb 26 2019 18:54 UTC
Or I guess, more of a V
WindstormSCR
@WindstormSCR
Feb 26 2019 18:55 UTC
then using some stuff from the Printable Scenery guys for piping and other refinery stuff, and probably a couple sector mechanicus kits
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Feb 26 2019 18:56 UTC
Nice cheap industrial table then
WindstormSCR
@WindstormSCR
Feb 26 2019 18:56 UTC
Goal is to hit a 3-level refinery board, so not THAT cheap, and things like lifters and the servo-haulers are better bought than printed
I’m very sad the Sector munitorum box is no longer around
I’d do some serious work to get my hands on one
so if you can find one @DrTobogganMD I think I’d be printing you more than just onager bits ;P
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Feb 26 2019 19:00 UTC
GL on that for less than 100 :(
That shit hit scalper territory quick
thats what I’m using for low-level LOS block
No crates, looking for those
aw nvm, I didn't realize how much stuff was in that box
WindstormSCR
@WindstormSCR
Feb 26 2019 19:06 UTC
Tbh, still a deal even at 90
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Feb 26 2019 19:08 UTC
were you looking for the KT Box
or the big box (which is pretty much 2 KT boxes)
WindstormSCR
@WindstormSCR
Feb 26 2019 19:09 UTC
KT box, because of the extras included (since the goal is for a KT table
90~USD but the bitch is the shipping
WindstormSCR
@WindstormSCR
Feb 26 2019 19:10 UTC
problem is the only one I see is 120 shipped from poland, but I’d be willing to work something out if you can find a US one :P
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Feb 26 2019 19:11 UTC
Where you at again, you're UK yea?
oh nvm
WindstormSCR
@WindstormSCR
Feb 26 2019 19:12 UTC
US east coast
I haven’t looked at all the little distributors yet
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Feb 26 2019 19:13 UTC
Yea, I'll keep my eye out for one <100 for ya
WindstormSCR
@WindstormSCR
Feb 26 2019 19:14 UTC
even 100 flat is workable
because the total bits in there are about 120 bought new in other formats
WindstormSCR
@WindstormSCR
Feb 26 2019 19:30 UTC
I miiight have just gotten lucky
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Feb 26 2019 19:31 UTC
oh?
WindstormSCR
@WindstormSCR
Feb 26 2019 19:31 UTC
found one at a uk reseller for not ripoff pricing
Earl Bishop
@DrTobogganMD
Feb 26 2019 19:35 UTC
oh very nice
WindstormSCR
@WindstormSCR
Feb 26 2019 19:39 UTC

@DrTobogganMD
Feb 26 2019 19:42 UTC
hahaha of course it's broken
WindstormSCR
@WindstormSCR
Feb 26 2019 22:50 UTC
hmmm
@DrTobogganMD you have very fortunate timing
new article just went up today on the practicals behind getting 0.05mm layer height out of older 3D printers
I'll use that thing as a test
