hello there! any idea why when I install a fresh cockpit it doesn't store any data? When I create a collection and an entry, that simply doesn't write it in the database… :/

Are you working on a local server?
Florian Letsch
@florianletsch
Sep 29 2015 11:40
the db file is writable?
Peter Brinck
@peterbrinck
Sep 29 2015 11:40
Exactly my thought @florianletsch
Félix
@flayks
Sep 29 2015 11:45
@peterbrinck @florianletsch : yep it's in local, but I developed a site before in local and worked like a charm
I'm using MAMP on osx 10.10
Peter Brinck
@peterbrinck
Sep 29 2015 11:46
Yeah, make sure that you have the correct permissions for the files
Félix
@flayks
Sep 29 2015 11:47
like a chmod 777? haha
Peter Brinck
@peterbrinck
Sep 29 2015 11:47

I've stumbled into the problem before, where a previous site worked as it should, but the next site didn't

Yeah

Or change ownership of the files
Félix
@flayks
Sep 29 2015 11:50
@peterbrinck just tested with a new install with 777 chmod, same problem, that doesn't store collections
Peter Brinck
@peterbrinck
Sep 29 2015 11:51
Try change the ownership of the files to you
That's what I do when I get the problem, and then it works
And make sure it's ALL the Cockpit files that got both 777 and you as the owner
Félix
@flayks
Sep 29 2015 11:53
that's strange :(
just made a chown -R www:www cockpit/
that creates the collection but doesn't store any data/field in it
I can see it in the dashboard
Peter Brinck
@peterbrinck
Sep 29 2015 11:54
Try chown -R username: project-folder
username should be your own username
Félix
@flayks
Sep 29 2015 11:56
yep got it but nope, doesn't change anything :(
and this is strange because in the /cockpit/storage/collections.sqlite file, there are my entries!
it's not empty
Peter Brinck
@peterbrinck
Sep 29 2015 11:58
Hmm... I was just about to ask if COckpit created the .sqlite file
Félix
@flayks
Sep 29 2015 11:58
yep i have all the cache and tmp files in the storage folder
Peter Brinck
@peterbrinck
Sep 29 2015 11:58
That's weird..
Félix
@flayks
Sep 29 2015 11:58
kind of :(
Peter Brinck
@peterbrinck
Sep 29 2015 11:59
Try and put that specific site on a live server
And see if it works
Félix
@flayks
Sep 29 2015 11:59
I use the github repo but tried with the next version and ZIP releases and that doesn't work too
Peter Brinck
@peterbrinck
Sep 29 2015 11:59
Aaaah, yeah
Cockpit Next isn't done yet
Félix
@flayks
Sep 29 2015 12:00
know that, but it seems pretty cool :D
Peter Brinck
@peterbrinck
Sep 29 2015 12:00
Cockpit Next is still in VERY early development, I don't think anything works yet
Artur
@aheinze
Sep 29 2015 12:05
cockpit next is in development, yes….but should be usable already
Félix
@flayks
Sep 29 2015 12:05
@peterbrinck just tested on my live server (nginx and php 5.6.13), working well…
dunno why in local (php 5.6.10 and apache from MAMP) that's buggy :(
Peter Brinck
@peterbrinck
Sep 29 2015 12:07
Okay, so it isn't because Cockpit is broken
I still thinks it's a permissions issue
Félix
@flayks
Sep 29 2015 12:07
yep think too but my commands doesn't solved it, strange
Peter Brinck
@peterbrinck
Sep 29 2015 12:08
And you did as super user?
Félix
@flayks
Sep 29 2015 12:08
sure
Peter Brinck
@peterbrinck
Sep 29 2015 12:09
Hmm
Félix
@flayks
Sep 29 2015 12:10
I guess that's an issue with MAMP pro
Peter Brinck
@peterbrinck
Sep 29 2015 12:10
It shouldn't be
Because MAMP just makes everything easy, with controlling the stack etc.
Félix
@flayks
Sep 29 2015 12:12
basically, when I create a collection, that pops me the notification that's created but doesn't show the "Go to entries" button
Peter Brinck
@peterbrinck
Sep 29 2015 12:13
Yeah, exactly what it did to me, but I fixed it with chaning the ownership and permissions
Try right clicking it, and change permissions from the GUI
Félix
@flayks
Sep 29 2015 12:14
Peter Brinck
@peterbrinck
Sep 29 2015 12:15
Then I don't know...
Because that should really be it
Félix
@flayks
Sep 29 2015 12:15
i think i'll reinstall this monster haha
Peter Brinck
@peterbrinck
Sep 29 2015 12:15
That's a lot of work just to get Cockpit going :-P
Félix
@flayks
Sep 29 2015 12:16
haha yep
so bad because this cms is just a gold nugget :)
Peter Brinck
@peterbrinck
Sep 29 2015 12:17
It's my go-to CMS
I'm tired of big bloated CMS' like WordPress
Félix
@flayks
Sep 29 2015 12:18
same here! I usually need a place to store and manage datas, not a gas factory with templates, plugins and custom post types…
Peter Brinck
@peterbrinck
Sep 29 2015 12:18
Yeah.. Exactly
Félix
@flayks
Sep 29 2015 12:19
maybe just cockpit needs an extra feature to create settings panel
Peter Brinck
@peterbrinck
Sep 29 2015 12:19
Settings panel, for plugins/addons?
Félix
@flayks
Sep 29 2015 12:19
to tweak the website without entering the code every time, like what we can do with options framework in wordpress (i.e ReduxFramework)
Peter Brinck
@peterbrinck
Sep 29 2015 12:20

Aaah

You can do that
Just make a region and fields according to your settings

If it's like logo, title, site name etc.
Félix
@flayks
Sep 29 2015 12:21
yes of course, but another part of the cms dedicated to it with more also more options, just an idea :)
Peter Brinck
@peterbrinck
Sep 29 2015 12:21
Yeah :-)
Félix
@flayks
Sep 29 2015 13:14
@peterbrinck finally MAMP was the problem… switcher to AMPPS and works well :) sorry for the non-cockpit issue haha
Peter Brinck
@peterbrinck
Sep 29 2015 13:14
It sounds weird, but great it works! :-) :+1:
