domain names would be converted to ascii before being send to the resolving server
so its more for knotdns than for resolver?

knot-resolver doesn't depend on it, at least not directly

i could see kdig or something needing it, but was just want to verify if kresd loses functionality if its not included or not

AFAIK resolvers don't need any "IDN handling" at all, as they just use the binary labels regardless of being puny-code or whatever.

was having trouble getting it compiled with custom libidn2, but seemed to complete with the new knotdns 2.5.0
