@Tanprasit Good work :)

@benblamey
Hi Folks -- how is it going over there?
DJ
@djdavies
@benblamey x3 working on front-end prototyping for feedback with Jon, considering 'throw away code'
x3 working on backend/Spring/framework stuff, no "real code" being written
Ben Blamey
@benblamey
Cool.
DJ
@djdavies
x2 working on Android feature we know we need: multiple scanning, user accounts
Ben Blamey
@benblamey
Great
Anything I can help with?
DJ
@djdavies
Unless we know something is a core feature, do you agree in the prototyping approach so no "real code" is ever thrown away?
i.e. emailing Jon UI prototypes to see if we're doing it right, he confirms, then prototypes moved in real code. Rather than programming real code to be told we're wrong and it needs to change.
Ben Blamey
@benblamey
Hmmm prototyping. Not sure what we really mean by that.
If it were up to me, I would implement features of the product, in the simplest possible way, test, fix the bugs. Get feedback at the next sprint.
Sending stuff to Jon is a good idea -- his time may be limited. An ethos of Agile is that building prototypes can be a little bit of a waste of time, because until we have something we can use in practice, no one is in a position to judge whether or not something is useful
Consider the mantra "we are building an {android app/website}, not a picture of an {Android app/website}"
I can look at a picture and say, yea looks great, move the button 1cm to the left, we can go for weeks like that, build the app, use it, and then realise there are a bunch of requirements we never even thought about
From a learning perspective, I think we would all learn more by developing the app, rather than drawing pictures of what the app might look like
DJ
@djdavies
The pictures are actually HTML/CSS/Js
But I understand, cheers

@benblamey
OK great.
Clients obsess about User Interfaces -- thats all most of them ever see. In reality, making CSS and layout changes is at the trivial end of our set of tasks. It can lead to false expectations where the client see the mockup, and thinks the project is finished.
Absolutely sensible approach to send him some mockups -- great idea. Just be wary of getting bogged down in UI trivia when we need to be implementing features in a product. Much better to get the thing working, and then send Jon a link to that.
Can you give me a link to a web interface I can sign in to?
DJ
@djdavies
To develop features of the product seems a bold claim. We don't really fully understand the spec/requirements of the product à la systems thinking, to quote Jon, "assume nothing". A better perspective would be to develop [flexible] features that could be used and transitioned into the project -- agreed?
Ben Blamey
@benblamey
Hmmm not really
When I say features I mean user stories
DJ
@djdavies
Consult @vyau987 @ajama7 @sreilly1 for the web interface. :smile:

@benblamey
At the end of the sprint we need a product which (in theory) we can ship. Something that actually works.
vyau987
@vyau987
So, at the minute three of us are working on the front end of the project. We've got some very simple mock-ups which show the flow from logging into the web app to viewing an audit trail.
We've reasoned through why the flow and items each webpage are needed etc. Would you say the next step should be to share these mock-ups around, get the OK from everyone and then start coding?
Ben Blamey
@benblamey
Sounds like a great idea.
vyau987
@vyau987
Would you like to see the mock ups here?
Ben Blamey
@benblamey
Sure
vyau987
@vyau987
Give me a few
DJ
@djdavies
Looking at the user stories we've identified, one can't really work on one before the current is completed. It's a little stagnant in that respect.
Ben Blamey
@benblamey
OK which stories are we stuck on?
DJ
@djdavies
None, just explaining progression
As you said
