The best Mexican you've had in deep South Philly, hot Italian sandwiches in the Italian market, an upscale but affordable and completely delicious family style Szechuan place, and of course cheesesteaks.

definitely packing in some cheesesteaks! where is the italian market
Ian Stewart
@ianmstew
May 25 2016 22:22
9th street in South Philly, it's just above Pat's and Geno's steaks, so you can take a walk through the market and land at some cheesesteaks :)

There's also some great walking tour areas in Old City with excellent/unique food stops
On the historical slant

I got into this long winded explanation of functional programming in a chat and he said he was interested but confused by it
then he asked me if I wanted to do a cast with him on the topic

we ran into a bug w/ session but if you keep everything in 1 session, then you’re prob safe

@ChetHarrison That is awesome. I am more functional than ever now with React and Redux, but it's almost impossible to be purely functional in JavaScript. I would love to try Elm sometime.

May 25 2016 22:54
hmm. Well it's Derick's show so I'll let him run tech support
@ianmstew I agree but there are plenty of easy aspect to it that people can immediately grasp and benif from

By "almost impossible" I mean JavaScript closures are too powerful not to use, so inevitably you end up with statefulness and side effects, by design of course.
So is your talk about approaching Javascript more functionally, or is it higher level?
Chet Harrison
@ChetHarrison
May 25 2016 22:56
well the fundamental trick is to return a new value rather that mutating the old value
Well I told Derick we have to break this into 3 sessions
1) an array is a container with map, reduce, zip, filter, flatten
I am going the make the case for why you should care about fp
2) functors and monads
3) Functional Reactive Programming with RxJS
