Jared Allard
@jaredallard
Apr 01 2015 16:27
npm request
It's a module.
alot of things require it.
But.
Actually, not worth it.
All of them require different versions.
Matheus Magalhães de Alcantara
@demhydraz
Apr 01 2015 16:28
hue.
Jared Allard
@jaredallard
Apr 01 2015 16:28
So, it would need their versions anyways.
One thing I don't like about node >.>
The version hell.
Well, what I don't like about npm
Matheus Magalhães de Alcantara

does io support the event dispatcher thing?
Jared Allard
@jaredallard
Apr 01 2015 16:32
Feel free to dl it whenever.
io.js supports everything node does.
io.js is a fork.
Matheus Magalhães de Alcantara
@demhydraz
Apr 01 2015 16:32
Oh, really.
So the difference is only the governance thingeh?
Jared Allard
@jaredallard
Apr 01 2015 16:32
It has an open governance module instead-- allowing more new features.
Matheus Magalhães de Alcantara
@demhydraz

Apr 01 2015 17:50
We're using matchbox window manager.
It's super lightweight, and maximizes by default.

Apr 01 2015 17:56
memory usage is 111mb right now.
With that running.
With google loaded it is (shockingly) 121mb.
Running with only 1GB of mem too.

open(url[, options])

Open a new window and load url in it, you can specify extra options with the window. All window subfields in Manifest format can be used. Since v0.4.0, a boolean field new-instance can be used to start a new Node instance (webkit process). Since v0.9.0 and 0.8.5, inject-js-start and inject-js-end field can be used to inject a javascript file, see Manifest format .

Since v0.7.3 the opened window is not focused by default. It's a result of unifying behavior across platforms. If you want it to be focused by default, you can set focus to true in options.

var win = gui.Window.open('https://github.com', {
  position: 'center',
  width: 901,
  height: 127
});
Jared Allard
@jaredallard
Apr 01 2015 18:43
So: What I've discovered or thought of is this:
  • We can have a permission system by overrighting window.window on an app load to fit perms. i.e no node, no window.window.require
  • We can launch windows via window.open, and inject a status bar or etc.
  • We can launch apps pretty much in any shape or form we may want to.
  • NW.js has little to no memory usage.
Also for security: No applications should be able to access nw.gui
But, I don't know how to restrict that just yet.
Jared Allard
@jaredallard
Apr 01 2015 18:48
Since we have control over the whole system we can; 1. chroot each process into a secure enviroment. 2. wrap around functions, 3. idk
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/nodejs/Oq0DEed9kWc has information on this matter somewhat. (2)
Also, matchbox-window-manager is used to load nw.js and auto fullscreens all windows by default, transissons may be a last thing though.
I'll upload a barebones nw setup soon, however havn't got non root xorg start yet.
Taking the train, peace.

Matheus Magalhães de Alcantara
@demhydraz
Apr 01 2015 21:23
Since we're going for nw.js, I'm going to have to learn how to web dev
Jared Allard
@jaredallard
Apr 01 2015 21:24
It's not hard ^^
Look into bootstrap
It'll be globaly available.
Matheus Magalhães de Alcantara
@demhydraz
Apr 01 2015 21:24
I know the syntax, I know the language.. (s)
I just can't CSS.
Jared Allard
@jaredallard
Apr 01 2015 21:24
Ohhh
Welp, maybe work on JS stuffz?
Matheus Magalhães de Alcantara
@demhydraz
Apr 01 2015 21:24
Sure.
Will the uI use jquery, or the document.stuff?
Jared Allard
@jaredallard
Apr 01 2015 21:25
jquery
Matheus Magalhães de Alcantara
@demhydraz
Apr 01 2015 21:25
Oh good.
I added it to the npm deps
Jared Allard
@jaredallard
Apr 01 2015 21:26
jquery and bootstrap will be available in: /usr/local/share/web/frameworks/*
Matheus Magalhães de Alcantara
@demhydraz
Apr 01 2015 21:26
local?
Jared Allard
@jaredallard
Apr 01 2015 21:26
Don't use npm, it isn't the same.
Matheus Magalhães de Alcantara
@demhydraz
Apr 01 2015 21:26
no local
Jared Allard
@jaredallard
Apr 01 2015 21:26
Local yes.
It means it pertains to this system only.
Matheus Magalhães de Alcantara
@demhydraz
Apr 01 2015 21:26
/usr/share/web/frameworks/* imo
Jared Allard
@jaredallard
Apr 01 2015 21:26
Okay, I guess.
Local is good for nw.
Matheus Magalhães de Alcantara
@demhydraz
Apr 01 2015 21:26
Actually, local could work best.
Should we run apps in /tmp/<app-name>-chroot? We could copy the dependencies to there
Jared Allard
@jaredallard
Apr 01 2015 21:27
Yep.
WE need a short dir for symlinking to the frameworks though.
i.e /src/framework
or /srv/
/srv/ is in the FHS docs
Matheus Magalhães de Alcantara
@demhydraz
Apr 01 2015 21:27
env var?
Jared Allard
@jaredallard
Apr 01 2015 21:27
I like symlinks in /srv/
Matheus Magalhães de Alcantara
@demhydraz
Apr 01 2015 21:27
$FRAMEWORKS
Jared Allard
@jaredallard
Apr 01 2015 21:28
cause it means the machine serves it.
No need for a $FRAMEWORKS
We'll have it symlink via a arch pkg
Matheus Magalhães de Alcantara
@demhydraz
Apr 01 2015 21:28
Sure;
Jared Allard
@jaredallard
Apr 01 2015 21:28
Could even have a framework-ctl program to switch versions.
:D
Matheus Magalhães de Alcantara
@demhydraz
Apr 01 2015 21:29
It'll be cool to have a env var
sort of like Make uses $(CC)
Jared Allard
@jaredallard
Apr 01 2015 21:29
Env can't be read in node well.
Have to use something like require('process').env.FRAMEWORKS
Matheus Magalhães de Alcantara
@demhydraz
Apr 01 2015 21:29
meh
we could have require('ciel').frameworks
Jared Allard
@jaredallard
Apr 01 2015 21:29
Alot of extra overhead for nothing.
You'd have to dynamically inject it too.
Matheus Magalhães de Alcantara
@demhydraz
Apr 01 2015 21:30
hm, indeed.
Question: all of the node docs apply to io, right?
Jared Allard
@jaredallard
Apr 01 2015 21:30
A symlink on the system i.e <script src="/srv/jquery.js"></script>
is better
and Yep
should
Matheus Magalhães de Alcantara
@demhydraz
Apr 01 2015 21:30
Oh, ok
Do I need to use <script> </script>?
can't I use <script />?
I love reddit.
Matheus Magalhães de Alcantara
@demhydraz
Apr 01 2015 21:36
so it's under /srv/?
@RainbowDashDC
Jared Allard
@jaredallard
Apr 01 2015 21:58

Sadly
Matheus Magalhães de Alcantara
@demhydraz
Apr 01 2015 21:58
that sucks
Jared Allard
@jaredallard
Apr 01 2015 21:58
and yes, it will be under /srv
Matheus Magalhães de Alcantara
@demhydraz
Apr 01 2015 21:58
Ok.
rainbow
I got a panic
Jared Allard
@jaredallard
Apr 01 2015 22:03
Uhhh?

What were you doing at the time?
Matheus Magalhães de Alcantara
@demhydraz
Apr 01 2015 22:04
Booting.
Jared Allard
@jaredallard
Apr 01 2015 22:04
Let me see
What's your qemu cmdline
Matheus Magalhães de Alcantara
@demhydraz

Matheus Magalhães de Alcantara
@demhydraz
Apr 01 2015 22:04
wait a little
there we go
what's root passwd?
Jared Allard
@jaredallard
Apr 01 2015 22:05
do sudo passwd
Uses random one at first
Matheus Magalhães de Alcantara
@demhydraz
Apr 01 2015 22:06

Jared Allard
@jaredallard
Apr 01 2015 22:06

Matheus Magalhães de Alcantara
@demhydraz
Apr 01 2015 22:06
why?
it's working
Jared Allard
@jaredallard
Apr 01 2015 22:06
I know
But if you want to kill it you have to do that.
Cause no way to shutdown x yet.
to shut down system from it, do:
Matheus Magalhães de Alcantara
@demhydraz
Apr 01 2015 22:07
we should work on the core now
Jared Allard
@jaredallard
Apr 01 2015 22:07
require('child_process').spawn('halt', [ '-p' ]);
Matheus Magalhães de Alcantara
@demhydraz

Jared Allard
@jaredallard
Apr 01 2015 22:07
At first, yes,
Matheus Magalhães de Alcantara
@demhydraz
Apr 01 2015 22:08
ugh the lag
can I mount the image?
Rainbows, I'm still going to use nw.js on my host for testing
Jared Allard
@jaredallard
Apr 01 2015 22:10
Dood.
Find a way to get kvm
I haz no lag.
Matheus Magalhães de Alcantara
@demhydraz
Apr 01 2015 22:10
I can't.
Jared Allard
@jaredallard
Apr 01 2015 22:10

I'm not :p
Matheus Magalhães de Alcantara
@demhydraz
Apr 01 2015 22:10
HUE.
Jared Allard
@jaredallard
Apr 01 2015 22:11
Also: I was thinking.
Do we need iojs on it?
I mean, it has a buildin iojs
Matheus Magalhães de Alcantara
@demhydraz
Apr 01 2015 22:11
well,
Jared Allard
@jaredallard
Apr 01 2015 22:11

But ass old version.
Matheus Magalhães de Alcantara
@demhydraz
Apr 01 2015 22:11
it'd be best.
Shall we get working, mr. Jared?
starts great coding museek
Jared Allard
@jaredallard
Apr 01 2015 22:13

Matheus Magalhães de Alcantara
@demhydraz
Apr 01 2015 22:13
