[berle] Doubled the available memory on the nodes, still nothing.

[berle] Hmm..

@sameroom-bot
[berle] Sigh... Azure is a joke. Crosses that off the list of potential providers
[berle] And DigitalOcean has abysmal performance.
[kagen101] We dropped Azure more than a year ago already...they the most expensive anyway
Sameroom
@sameroom-bot
[berle] Candidates left: Linode (Our current) which is cheapest and best performing per dollar, but lacks any tool support and lacks block storage. DigitalOcean, which is basically a more expensive and slower version of Linode, but with tool support and block storage. Packet seems similar to Linode in terms of price and performance, but lacks load balancers as a service. GCP is the one I'm looking into... God, google couldn't design a decent GUI if their lives dependent on it. Im unsure about its performance characteristics, but price is at least better than AWS.
[kagen101] AWS and GCE is the best priced. AWS is probably the most competitive if you implement a Spot price strategy
[kagen101] AWS tooling is the most mature and if you want to use in house cloud products they have the most
[berle] It annoys me that Linode is so much better in terms of hardware you get per $ than all the rest, but they don't seem to be bothered getting their platform supported in any modern set of tools.
[berle] It's as if their brains are stuck back in the 2000s.
Sameroom
@sameroom-bot
[kagen101] That is probably the reason it is cheaper ?
Sameroom
@sameroom-bot
[berle] I doubt not spending a few hours to get a driver into terraform is the reason they're cheaper.

@sameroom-bot
[cryptophobia] Anybody who used Linode extensively that would really recommend it?
[berle] We've used it for years at work. It's mainly the two things I've already mentioned that's the biggest problem: The lack of support in tools such as terraform, and the lack of block storage as a service.
[berle] In terms of CPU cores, memory, bandwidth, etc you get per $, they're easily #1.

@sameroom-bot
[cryptophobia] Hmm, sounds good. Thanks @berle .

[berle] It's also worth noting that the "real world" performance of their virtual machines are really good. These things are blazingly fast and responsive.

[kagen101] Before Heroku changed their message layer they where also up there for resources per $

[berle] Hmm, looking a bit over kontena, one thing I really like about it: Integrated letsencrypt support.

[thomasvincent] linode sitll has no block storage
[thomasvincent] man that blows
[thomasvincent] I was hoping to move to someone else soon

[travis] Have you ever used https://www.togglebox.com/ ? -- I have and they aren't too bad. I was running a game hosting company at one point on their servers.

@sameroom-bot
[travis] ...but no block storage.
Sameroom
@sameroom-bot
[thomasvincent] Yea, i guess they will argue you buy another node and use it

[thomasvincent] merged some openstack pull requests that i verififed in my personal environment
[thomasvincent] experimenting with using
docker pull continuse/openstack-controller
for testing openstack
Sameroom
@sameroom-bot
[travis] awesome
[thomasvincent] there are some others i need to do more testing on to clean up some terraform stuff

@lezhar
Hey there, whats the main difference between Mantl and Nirmata?
Travis Rowland
@Theaxiom
@lezhar it looks like Nirmata costs money while Mantl is completely FOSS
At first glance, I am finding it difficult to see what they are using in their stack
You can see what Mantl is using here: http://mantl.io/technologies
I also believe Nirmata is SaaS/IaaS hybrid whereas Mantl is completely managed on-premise
I hope that answers your question, please let me know if you have any further inquiries :)

thats good to know
@ronaldpetty I just want to figure out whats the best way to send out communication about hte project and engage people
Ronald Petty
@ronaldpetty
I think this is probably still it, but think you need to be very specific on what you want to discuss. Unfortunately over time MANTL has ebb and flowed so people come and go :/
