Hi, I can confirm this. Sometimes the color change is buggy. Does it work if you try multiple times to save the change?

pm64
@pm64
Yes, tried multiple times, restarted the browser, uninstalled/reinstalled add-on etc..

Could you share some more informations? Browser Version, OS, maybe an export of the ClearURLs config?

Hi, I see quite a lot entries in the log saying "This hyperlink auditing was blocked". I did have ublock origin with "Disable hyperlink auditing", but disable that option doesn't change anything with ClearURLs. Any idea?

It depends on the installation order of the addons in Firefox. If hyperlink auditing is already blocked in the first addon, it cannot be blocked in the second addon.

If you install the two addons in reverse order, the log should also change.

I'm on chrome/brave tho, does the order matter? If so, is there a way to change this order (without uninstall/reinstall extensions) ?

As far as I know, this is also important in Chrome. Even there, no addon can remove something that another addon has already removed.

I don't aware of any other method except reinstalling the addons to change the order.

so i'm now trying chromium edge on mac, with only ClearURLs installed, still getting these "This hyperlink auditing was blocked". I don't think it's related to other extensions now.

Ah, now I understand what you mean. This is an additional feature that ClearURLs offers. ClearURLs can also block hyperlink auditing. Every time this happens ClearURLs creates a log entry. If you don't want to use this feature, you can disable it in the ClearURLs settings.

ok, that makes sense. i was trying to find out why some links on the page aren't "cleaned"
it's weird that when I put those links on the test page, it got cleaned correctly.

Also, I found sometimes that the link looks "cleaner" when I hover my mouse on it. And then just grows dirty. Not sure if it's related to this auditing prevention.
Kevin
@KevinRoebert

URLs are only cleaned if they are actually requested. So if you just hover over a link, but don't click on it, they won't be cleaned yet. Only when the browser makes an actual request, this request is blocked, the URL is cleaned and then executed cleaned.

This is done to save resources. Otherwise ClearURLs would have to parse the entire DOM every time and perform cleaning for several URLs, even though they are not called at all.

Oh, thanks for clarifying that. Should have thought about it!

If I'm understanding the above conversation correctly, users that run both ClearURLs and uBlock must install the add-ons in a specific order. What is the correct order?

No, not really. If uBlock and ClearURLs offer the same functions, then only one of the two addons can perform the respective cleaning. This is also quite logical because after the first cleaning there is nothing left to clean. If you want a specific addon to perform this cleaning, the order is important. Usually, however, the sequence does not matter, because you just want cleaning to take place and you do not care which addon does it.

I am a bit baffled on how to use this extension. if I have a tracking URL (e.g. on Thunderbird) and click on it ClearURLs doesn't seem to intercept it (sometimes other components do and block) I have to manually copy the link, open the "ClearURLs cleaning tool", paste it, clear, copy again, paste in browser (Firefox) and finally get to the desired page. This seems a bit convoluted: most likely I'm missing something. Can someone help?

Also per ClearURLs/Addon#137, there's no way to disable ClearURL on specific site right now?

I use the Google Cloud Platform https://cloud.google.com/sdk/gcloud/reference/auth/login?hl=en and if I try to do a gcloud auth login --update-adc then I get an error if ClearUrls is enabled. I did not have the time to verify it with a clean Firefox, but I am fairly sure it is due to ClearUrls. I couldn't find any open issue on Gitlab. Is that the place to report it?

Hi. I am making an elixir library to clean urls using ClearURLs rules. Can I copy parts of ClearURLs documentation and icon as part of my project? Under what license?

Hi! I'm working on a PHP software to aggregate, save and share links, and I'm adding a feature to warn about and to remove trackers in URLs. I started to implement the rules of ClearURLs, but I was wondering if you have a list of URLs before/after, so I can test my implementation?

Btw, I just realized the spec says that completeProvider is a required property (see https://docs.clearurls.xyz/1.23.0/specs/rules/#dataminjson-catalog), but it is only provided in providers with completeProvider=true in data.minify.json
Kevin
@KevinRoebert
Yes, but I can't change it. Maybe in version 2 of ClearURLs. Otherwise I would break the older versions

Hi all, i have a use case where I just want to clean up the URL in the window that I'm browsing, and reload the page. What I do at the moment is load a page from a newsletter, which normally has half a dozen tracking parameters. I then use my mouse to click in the URL in the firefox address bar, just before the ?, and then select everything to the right, delete it, and reload. I don't actually want to have every URL I ever surf cleaned up, because I'm happy enough with the protection provided natively by FF, NoScript and UBlock Origin and I think having something extra on top of that operating in the background is too much for me. The reason I do this operation is that for my work everyday, I browse stories arriving in newsletters and push them out to social media via FF plugins which just grab the URL but don't clean it. In 100% of cases, the news story URLs have nothing useful in the query string parameters and I want to remove the whole lot.

OK thanks. There's nothing that would work directly on the address bar? Currently the number of actions is painful enough because I do it maybe 20 times a day. If I used the cleaning tool, I'd probably be doing a few more clicks to move the URL into the tool field, clean it, and then move it back.
Kevin
@KevinRoebert
No, there is no API that allows to add context menu entries to the URL address bar
