Anyone planning on ph min and max and automatically calling an automated doser when out of range?
JF
@cloudzombie
Jun 16 2016 03:15
Most definitely
unless can find a great piece of hardware, will probably use a particle photon and relay to a pump that uses hydrostatic pressure created in a macgyver loop of tubes, to dose in larger quantities, my control reservoir is 500 gallons.
JF
@cloudzombie
Jun 16 2016 03:43
the small little hydrostatic pumps I have found would be completely emptied in one dose.

Anyone planning on ph min and max and automatically calling an automated doser when out of range?
Yep!
We've been working on this at the UC Berkeley CS department. : )

I just submitted an issue I am having getting grow. Js arduino to talk to Grow-IoT at all after recent pull from master
Jake Hartnell
@JakeHartnell
Jun 16 2016 19:43
I might have broke something.
Will take a look.
JF
@cloudzombie
Jun 16 2016 19:44
I copy pasted console log error in issue. I try to at least do that much when I'm lost
Jake Hartnell
@JakeHartnell
Jun 16 2016 19:44
That's a good start at least.
JF
@cloudzombie
Jun 16 2016 19:45
I'm also pretty busy baby nursing some bitcoin longs from $450 range
Just watching markets with a bag of popcorn right now

Is there a state.json file in your my-plant-light folder?
JF
@cloudzombie
Jun 16 2016 19:47
No there is not
Jake Hartnell
@JakeHartnell
Jun 16 2016 19:47
\me tries quickstart.
When we get to an actual alpha release things are going to be more stable.
JF
@cloudzombie
Jun 16 2016 19:48
led-demo-sequence.js light.js node_modules package.json
Is what is in my-plant-light
Jake Hartnell
@JakeHartnell
Jun 16 2016 19:48
Open package.json
what version of Grow.js is it using?
JF
@cloudzombie
Jun 16 2016 19:49
0.2.4
Jake Hartnell
@JakeHartnell
Jun 16 2016 19:49

It MAY be node version possibly....
I am on Ubuntu 14.04 and using NVM
for whatever node version is needed
wherever its needed as needed, because I got sick of node's split personality
Jake Hartnell
@JakeHartnell
Jun 16 2016 19:51
What version of node are you using? node -v
JF
@cloudzombie
Jun 16 2016 19:51
5.0.0
3.3.6 for npm
I can switch it to 4.x or 0.10.x anything though
And the corresponding npm as well of course
I know my arduino is hooked up and Johnny five works properly out of the same path
Jake Hartnell
@JakeHartnell
Jun 16 2016 19:54
I use the latest stable release. nvm stable

Running a simple led pulse etc
Jake Hartnell
@JakeHartnell
Jun 16 2016 19:55
But that's not the problem.
Made a small mistake. : )
Will push Grow.js v0.2.5 soon.
JF
@cloudzombie
Jun 16 2016 19:55
Yea. I am still just the teaching myself meteor etc.
Javascript books = life right now

@JakeHartnell
Jun 16 2016 19:56
Nice!
We use a few wonderful packages written by my friend @mitar! If you look at https://github.com/peerlibrary/meteor-blaze-components our front end will start to make a bit more sense.
JF
@cloudzombie
Jun 16 2016 19:58
Beautiful
Blaze (thank you)
I have been meaning to mention that, for love of all that is holy
Jake Hartnell
@JakeHartnell
Jun 16 2016 19:59
Blaze is good, I've used Angular and React before and frankly I think they are a bit overkill.
JF
@cloudzombie
Jun 16 2016 19:59
Thanks for not going react or angular
Lol
Yes
Yesssss
React will die as Facebook pivots on pivots
Without planting their pivot foot first...
Trip and smack right on the floor
Blaze is wonderful, so is lazy loading for small projects and learning.
Pushing imports threw me off for a week.... Lol
Jake Hartnell
@JakeHartnell
Jun 16 2016 20:24
Alright, should be fixed. Update package.json to use Grow.js 0.2.5 and run npm install
JF
@cloudzombie
Jun 16 2016 20:27
passing npm update Grow.js it gives me Grow.js@0.2.48
Jake Hartnell
@JakeHartnell
Jun 16 2016 20:28
Hmmmmm... 0.2.5 should be available
JF
@cloudzombie
Jun 16 2016 20:30
I am gonna just nuke folder and start it fresh
lol
Jake Hartnell
@JakeHartnell
Jun 16 2016 20:30
+1
: )
Jake Hartnell
@JakeHartnell
Jun 16 2016 20:37
Is it working?
JF
@cloudzombie
Jun 16 2016 20:37
It is
Jake Hartnell
@JakeHartnell
Jun 16 2016 20:37
Yay!
You should try out scheduling too.
Now there's UI for updating the schedule of data logging or an action.
Light - Mozilla Firefox_004.png
Click the change button and pass in a later.js text expresssion
Examples: 'at 1:00pm', 'every minute', 'every 5 seconds', etc.
JF
@cloudzombie
Jun 16 2016 20:40
OK I will do, I just got it connected,
Then killed it and tried to re-run
says loading from state.json Error unatuthorized
Should I just delete state.json
and rerun
Jake Hartnell
@JakeHartnell
Jun 16 2016 20:41
Ah... delete state.json
JF
@cloudzombie
Jun 16 2016 20:41
Yep
Sweet
Jake Hartnell
@JakeHartnell
Jun 16 2016 20:41
Now devices have state so you don't delete them on the font end.
JF
@cloudzombie
Jun 16 2016 20:41
Remove them from actual server
Jake Hartnell
@JakeHartnell
Jun 16 2016 20:42
Sorry, I need to be clearer.
State.json stores the device UUID and Token which it uses to connect.
JF
@cloudzombie
Jun 16 2016 20:42
Your all good man, appreciate you explaining it to me !
So each device when connected will create a new state.json
Jake Hartnell
@JakeHartnell
Jun 16 2016 20:43
yep.
JF
@cloudzombie
Jun 16 2016 20:43
in devices respective path
Jake Hartnell
@JakeHartnell
Jun 16 2016 20:43
Yep.
JF
@cloudzombie
Jun 16 2016 20:43
So if need to delete, remove state.json
And reinitialize
Got it
Jake Hartnell
@JakeHartnell
Jun 16 2016 20:43
Yes.
For now.
JF
@cloudzombie
Jun 16 2016 20:43
Picking up what your putting down
I have only the arduino fat the moment, tons of sensors on the way, some from china, some from adafruit
atlas stuff
Jake Hartnell
@JakeHartnell
Jun 16 2016 20:44
The good thing is that if your device goes offline, it will still be using the same UUID and token so the app should pick up right where it left off.
JF
@cloudzombie
Jun 16 2016 20:45
Ya that is good for data aggregation and building smart systems
Continuity
of data
Jake Hartnell
@JakeHartnell
Jun 16 2016 20:45
Cool! We're working on atlas sensors at UC Berkeley so we should have some example code soon...
JF
@cloudzombie
Jun 16 2016 20:45
Nice, yah I am glad to hear that.
My partner is a harvard chemist 20 years my senior in the cannabis production stuff
So we like to use scientific grade everything where possible
Jake Hartnell
@JakeHartnell
Jun 16 2016 20:46
Cool!
JF
@cloudzombie
Jun 16 2016 20:46
Raw minerals for nutrient schedules etc.
He has a sweet alcohol distillation process that recaptures 96% of alcohol used to process RSO
Etc.

@JakeHartnell
Jun 16 2016 20:48
Welcome @brynamo! @cloudzombie you might be interested in some of his previous work at Berkeley: http://www.ischool.berkeley.edu/projects/2016/hydrobase

Jun 16 2016 20:48
Ooooh, reading materials!
yesss
Litom just came out with that
Jake Hartnell
@JakeHartnell
Jun 16 2016 20:50
Yeah, they work great.
I've not tried them with Cannabis yet though.
JF
@cloudzombie
Jun 16 2016 20:50
Yea they have their place, I am skeptical they will replace my Gavitas in the flowering rooms though
Cloning and Vegetative though I will give them a shot definitely
it would cut my power usage by 85% just in those areas
Jake Hartnell
@JakeHartnell
Jun 16 2016 20:51
: )
JF
@cloudzombie
Jun 16 2016 20:51
From the T5 HO CFL type bulbs
I ordered a few, and am going to replace some 4 foot 4 bulb units with two 36watt Litom's
Bryan Morgan
@brynamo
Jun 16 2016 20:52
Hey @cloudzombie, nice to digitally meet you
JF
@cloudzombie
Jun 16 2016 20:52
and 4 foot 8 bulb units with 4 bulbs
Bryan Morgan
@brynamo
Jun 16 2016 20:52
I've used those actually in Hydrobase, they're really great
we weren't doing Cannabis though, Avocado and Jalapeno
JF
@cloudzombie
Jun 16 2016 20:52
How's goes is @brynamo !
Nice, yah that is the kicker, I am in legal recreational and medicinal Cannabis production in Oregon.
And the HPS is still the best for fruiting and flowering hands down
Bryan Morgan
@brynamo
Jun 16 2016 20:53
yeah, hopefully we can do more of that down here soon
JF
@cloudzombie
Jun 16 2016 20:53
I actually have a solar setup
ours is subsidized by battery and solar off-grid
Bryan Morgan
@brynamo
Jun 16 2016 20:54
oh very nice
JF
@cloudzombie
Jun 16 2016 20:54
I am running PowerBox brand Power units, and Flipboxes to save on amperage output
and light ballasts needed
8 x 1000 Watt ballasts is 16,000 Watts in Overhead Canopy
It runs them on 12/12 cycle
Bryan Morgan
@brynamo
Jun 16 2016 20:55
have you experimented outside the 12/12 or is that optimal?
JF
@cloudzombie
Jun 16 2016 20:55
One room of 8 Hoods is on, then it flips on second room
I stick to the 12/12 flowering, Vegetative I usually just leave it 24 for mother's, 18/6 for cloning and growth
I am doing a homemade aeroponic unit as well
Let me dig up the PDF
Bryan Morgan
@brynamo
Jun 16 2016 20:56
nice
yeah we were trying to minimize our sensor cost so did aeroponics (that way we didn't need a D.O sensor)
JF
@cloudzombie
Jun 16 2016 20:57
Yes. I did it because I am lazy, and dirt = pests here
Since the industry is BRAND new and no one comes from an agricultural background
Which I come from old farmer stock (lol)
Bryan Morgan
@brynamo
Jun 16 2016 20:57
haha yeah
JF
@cloudzombie
Jun 16 2016 20:58
They don't have proper pest management programs
Bryan Morgan
@brynamo
Jun 16 2016 20:58
ah cool
JF
@cloudzombie
Jun 16 2016 20:58
and spray the wrong pesticides etc.
Lots use Flouromite, Avid, Azamax etc.
Bryan Morgan
@brynamo
Jun 16 2016 20:58
ah yeah, we were trying to keep everything organic in our set up
JF
@cloudzombie
Jun 16 2016 20:58
And do it in FLOWER some of the time as well....
Bryan Morgan
@brynamo
Jun 16 2016 20:58
(again not at the same scale though)
ugh that's horrible
JF
@cloudzombie
Jun 16 2016 20:58
Beyond that they create resistances to certain chemicals
Bryan Morgan
@brynamo
Jun 16 2016 20:59
it's an issue down here, in Berkeley they test for it at the dispensaries now
JF
@cloudzombie
Jun 16 2016 20:59
Yes we do here as well now
Which is good
Bryan Morgan
@brynamo
Jun 16 2016 20:59
for sure
JF
@cloudzombie
Jun 16 2016 20:59
But people still don't know when and how and WHAT to spray
Bryan Morgan
@brynamo
Jun 16 2016 20:59
it's a lot of tacit knowledg
*knowledge
JF
@cloudzombie
Jun 16 2016 20:59
For instance, I got mites BAD, mostly from just going to where growers congregated, Grow shops
Conferences
etc
Bryan Morgan
@brynamo
Jun 16 2016 20:59
which it sounds like you have ;)
JF
@cloudzombie
Jun 16 2016 20:59
But i know how to handle them
stop flower, take a back seat and let everything just veg, I spray with FORBID by bayer
once quarterly in Veg ONLY
Its a specific type of miticide used in soft skinned Citrus fruits
Bryan Morgan
@brynamo
Jun 16 2016 21:00
ah cool
JF
@cloudzombie
Jun 16 2016 21:01
ZERO resistance build up possibility, as its mode of action is suffocation
not chemical reaction
Bryan Morgan
@brynamo
Jun 16 2016 21:01
yeah pest control is a huge issue
oh wow
JF
@cloudzombie
Jun 16 2016 21:01
Its also translaminar
so you spray tops of leaves
and the underside pulls it through leaf
Bryan Morgan
@brynamo
Jun 16 2016 21:01
yeah, I'd spoken with some people about controlled environments and using CO2 as a pest control system
JF
@cloudzombie
Jun 16 2016 21:01
c02 is dangerous at those levels for humans
and I don't believe state will allow it
That would be like, regulating a Nuclear Facility to them
They would want HUGE fees
and Licenses
Bryan Morgan
@brynamo
Jun 16 2016 21:02
knew about the danger to humans (hence the controlled environment) but didn't know about the state
JF
@cloudzombie
Jun 16 2016 21:02
Gotta factor what regulators would want from everything
Bryan Morgan
@brynamo
Jun 16 2016 21:02
that's a really interesting point
JF
@cloudzombie
Jun 16 2016 21:03
The most EXPENSIVE aspect of this industry
Is the taxation
And zero federal recognition for business and no incentives
Getting taxed 6 ways from sunday
Every angle
Bryan Morgan
@brynamo
Jun 16 2016 21:03
haha I bet, but isn't that one of the main selling points too? Or rather a way to get people more accepting of it?
ugh yeah, that sounds rough
hence wanting to automate as much as possible
to scale effectively?
JF
@cloudzombie
Jun 16 2016 21:04
Sure, but like here for instance, not to gripe or get into it too hard, they want to fund a 120 million $ homeless facility for 1400 homeless folks
thats $85,742 per person
When the average income needed here to be LOWER middle class is $70,000
Bryan Morgan
@brynamo
Jun 16 2016 21:05
yeah, it's rough we have similar issues in SF (though not to the same cost)
JF
@cloudzombie
Jun 16 2016 21:05
They want to tax our industry at 25% or more
When ALCOHOL is to blame for their problems
Not marijuana
Go after the ALCOHOL industry for that money
Just because it's profitable, doesn't mean some people didn't spend a decade building it, to just sit there and have everyone want a piece of the Pie.
Bryan Morgan
@brynamo
Jun 16 2016 21:06
yeah, alcohol is a pretty nasty drug
JF
@cloudzombie
Jun 16 2016 21:06
California for instance, they want USELESS middleman to be regulated and required
for distributors
that adds 25-35% to the bottom line
instantly
So mom and pop producer, has to give it to a distributor, who can then sell to a Retail, or Dispensary outlet
Bryan Morgan
@brynamo
Jun 16 2016 21:07
yeah, it's kinda like higher ed with more and more administrators
JF
@cloudzombie
Jun 16 2016 21:07
Distributor's will be Politicians derpy dumb cousins and brothers
The nepotistic and monopolistic ways are easy to see right through, follow the LLC's
Bryan Morgan
@brynamo
Jun 16 2016 21:10
yeah, it's unfortunate how pervasive it is in our society
JF
@cloudzombie
Jun 16 2016 21:11
For instance, the lawyer who wrote and got the law changed here for recreational
Owns 3 Dispensaries
A producer
an analytics Lab
Etc
He makes MILLIONS
And had the licenses given to him first, every single time
Its absurd
Bryan Morgan
@brynamo
Jun 16 2016 21:13
that's rough
but as it opens up there is opportunity to make improvements
JF
@cloudzombie
Jun 16 2016 21:14
Thats for sure, lots of failures
Millions spent and lost
I know of at least 50 million USD going pooooof
from Investors betting on the wrong people
Bryan Morgan
@brynamo
Jun 16 2016 21:16
haha it's better than some of the bets they've made on start ups though (http://dumbcuneiform.com/)
I have to take off but it was great meeting you, I'm going to be helping @JakeHartnell out so I'm sure we'll talk more!
JF
@cloudzombie
Jun 16 2016 21:35
Good to chat for sure! And yes I love
That dumb cuneiform.... Got cut off.
I am gonna order one of this
It's my tweet of the week!
