@Cybnate
Phew. Great thanks Matthew.

@MatthewLM
No problem. I know how to calculate dynamic fees now.
I'll write up a custodian grant proposal tomorrow for implementing them into NuDroid. It's unfortunately not going to be quick and easy, but it's certainly possible and I can do it no problem.
Cybnate
@Cybnate
So, we have some unexcepted additional cost of Nu 2.0 implementation. Is it worth it that you both can share code/approach with the coinomi dev, erasmospunk on the forum? Or does it add only more complexity?
Matthew Mitchell
@MatthewLM
Hmm, from a quick look it seems the coinomi code is significantly different so I doubt it.
Cybnate
@Cybnate
Ok, thanks for looking into that
Matthew Mitchell
@MatthewLM
I hope it is not considered too much. I was looking through the nubitsj code, and determined there is quite a bit more to do than I realised.
Cybnate
@Cybnate
It is quite a lot and more than I would expect not being a coder. Maybe it helps to elaborate a bit for non-coders on what needs to be done. Would the promised rpc calls JL talked about make it significantly easier to implement? When waiting reduces the costs significantly it might be a viable option to present. Shareholders like options :-)

@TomJoad-Nu
+1 for Cybnate's view
Matthew Mitchell
@MatthewLM
The getinfo RPC command can be used to get the fee. An alternative solution is to use a server to provide the fee to the app. Perhaps I could write up an alternative proposal using a server, if it's cheaper and quicker?
Cybnate
@Cybnate
Jordan responded in your thread. Not a fan using a separate server, but not sure if you meant that. We went to great length to move decentralise as much as possible. Only option I can think off is using the existing server(s) to serve up the latest transaction fee as an interim solution till e.g. Nu 3.0.
Matthew Mitchell
@MatthewLM
The existing servers could be used if they were to provide the fee data. They could provide the fee under /q/getvalidhashes?getfee or /q/getvalidhashes/getfee maybe? Or the fee could be appended to the existing blockhash data. So that way it would work with the existing URLs. Though as Jordan suggests, it would be best to wait for the new RPC method in 2.1 in the case that the logic will change again in 3.0.

@MatthewLM
I posted a reply.

For those that did not see I've released the update for the latest grant: https://discuss.nubits.com/t/passed-reliability-and-performance-improvements-to-nudroid-released/2709/22
Also, there is no definite solution for implementing dynamic fees yet: https://discuss.nubits.com/t/draft-dynamic-fees-in-nudroid/2832/9
It's not known how the getfee RPC command will work in relation to v3.0.

You've managed NuDroid so well from its inception Cybnate. Thanks for all that effort
Cybnate
@Cybnate
Thanks Coingame. Always nice to hear that. Would be doing more if the ALP software was not that troublesome.

@desrever-nu
Hi Guys good morning
Desrever
@desrever-nu
@Cybnate , my nexus 5 imploded (literally) ... I am now restoring NuDroid backup
did you ever tried that function?
apparently its very easy ... i mailed the backup file to me, opened from smartphone and NuDroid prompts for password
I have a recent backup (august), but for some reason it gives me an error when I try to import that (likely, wrong password.) Big fingers on tiny screen?
I just managed to import an older backup, 3 months ago... Now is re-synching the blockchain from scratch, so it will take a while...
I am wondering if with such an old backup will I be still able to recover funds... (not sure key management over there ) ;)
Will keep you posted
Desrever
@desrever-nu
It worked :)
Cybnate
@Cybnate
That is good to hear. Thanks for reporting back, it seems we have a robust system!
Matthew Mitchell
@MatthewLM
@desrever-nu, @Cybnate With the deterministic wallets a single wallet backup should be sufficient for all private keys since they are generated from a single seed. You may loose your transaction details but you wont lose your funds.

For dynamic fees, I've submitted a grant for voting: https://discuss.nubits.com/t/voting-dynamic-fees-in-nudroid/2919 I've changed it slightly to allow compatibility with both Nu 2.0 and the upcoming 2.1 release.
Cybnate
@Cybnate
^ Looks good, supporting that.
JZA
@Jzarecta
Hi I heard this app also uses some kind of shapeshift backend, not sure if this is just for visualization porpouses or can I actually exchange and hold both BTC/NuBits at the same time.
Or maybe this is just other app, and I am confused.
Cybnate
@Cybnate
It has a Shapeshift backend but only for exchanges from NuBits to any other supported currency. You are probably looking for the other App which holds all supported currencies but doesn't have all the convenient wallet functions NuDroid has.
JZA
@Jzarecta
Well I have neither, only saw NuDroid on a soundbite from The Daily Decrypt. However, I recomend it to a friend, but I couldnt really 'get' how to change to BTC (for example). Also not clear if once converted does it remain on the app or this is just for viewing porpouses on the way out (sending).
Cybnate
@Cybnate
You can't exchange to BTC, you can only pay with BTC. NuDroid is a NBT wallet. NBT are sent from the wallet to Shapeshift and converted to e.g. BTC to settle payment. You won't hold BTC at any time, the recepient receives BTC though.
You hold stable value NuBits in your wallet and you only convert them to any other volatile cryptocurrency when you need it. Its main purpose is a stable value wallet not a trading tool
JZA
@Jzarecta
Is there anything I need to enable to do this. Does the "send" form accept BTC address then?
ie. If my friend want to send me BTC from NuDroid he can just plug my BTC address in NuDorid directly?
Matthew Mitchell
@MatthewLM
Hi @Jzarecta that is indeed correct. Using NuDroid your friend can insert a bitcoin address or scan a bitcoin QR code and NuDroid should be able to pay to the bitcoin address.
It's not only bitcoin, but many other Shapeshift-supported coins such as Litecoin, Peercoin, Dash etc.
JZA
@Jzarecta
How do a user copy his address from the NuDroid wallet.
Willy
@bananenwilly
press request and the next menu has three icons in the top bar (copy to clipboard, share, options [three dots])
you want share or copy to clipboard ;)
