Scarecrowe
@Scarecrowe
I did part one yesterday in 5.31 yet i still ranked 3618
Cant believe that out of over 100'000 people only 4000 odd completed part two yesterday
I feel that submarine will come back in later puzzles
Iain M Norman
@IainMNorman
That's 4% that DIDN'T do part 2 @Scarecrowe ?
Brian Norman
@gingemonster

till I get bored next week
Iain M Norman
@IainMNorman

Brian Norman
@gingemonster
int SolveAdventOfCode2021Day1Part1(string input)
{
return 0;
}

Iain M Norman
@IainMNorman
LOL.
How's day three going.
You should livestream the pain.
I'd watch.
It sounds fun.
Searching for the right function name etc.
Brian Norman
@gingemonster
Trying to work out how to get it to split the grid into columns or anything that would allow me to sum each is proving a challenge
Scarecrowe
@Scarecrowe
Certainly more challenging today :D
Robert Giffin
@RobGiffin
Nice work Dan, I was so close to getting second place today, but Paul just beat me to completing part two. Was a good challenge.
Iain M Norman
@IainMNorman
Oh ffs. Did we just play a ‘squid game’?
Lee Wilkie
@leewilkie
Day 4 in the AOC house. Part 1 = 2 hours of OOP lovelyness... part 2 = 2 minutes (phew...)
Scarecrowe
@Scarecrowe
Another enjoyable puzzle today, when is the GPS coming :D
Andy Norman
@andynormancx
decided it was finally time to start writing code rather than using Excel, just spent 90 minutes getting my node based runner back up and running from last year 😥
first modern JS I'd written since AoC2020, should be fun
what are all these funny arrow things ?! ;)
Iain M Norman
@IainMNorman
Day 4 caught up on.
Andy Norman
@andynormancx
not sure my heart is in it this year, all feeling a little bit like work at the moment (doesn't help that I'm fighting this JS runner a bit)
Scarecrowe
@Scarecrowe
Can you not write it as a html page and just run the JavaScript solution like that or in the dev console window
Iain M Norman
@IainMNorman
Put the Buffy Once More with Feeling soundtrack on loud and everything will be okay.
Scarecrowe
@Scarecrowe
Or write it in rockstar 🤣
Andy Norman
@andynormancx
I can, but it is nicer when you have a runner and tests etc
Iain M Norman
@IainMNorman
Man some of the rockstar solutions are amazing
Andy Norman
@andynormancx
or at least it is when the runner is working how you want it to ;)
Scarecrowe
@Scarecrowe
I have been looking at some solutions in rockstar
I had a play on the website as they have a js transpiler for it
Robert Giffin
@RobGiffin
I tried to visualise the output of todays challenge, but its not so easy to fix a 1000x1000 grid in a terminal window! Day 5 done. puzzles are getting more interesting.
Jonathan George
@jongeorge1
@RobGiffin take a look at https://spectreconsole.net/. Might help if you're trying to do cool stuff in the Console.
Scarecrowe
@Scarecrowe
That does look rather cool, will have a play around with that
Jonathan George
@jongeorge1
I see that @absharry is sticking with tradition this year:
Scarecrowe
@Scarecrowe
The world has righted itself
Got mine done within 20 minutes today and there was internal server errors all over the show. I submitted both answers yet the leader boards where showing no stars at all.
phew
Andy
@ajsummerfield
Finally showing my face! Hello all :) I'm actually partaking and am so as of right now up-to-date for once :D
@leewilkie a belated welcome to you, look forward to meeting you soon :)
Iain M Norman
@IainMNorman
How you finding it so far AJ?
Lee Wilkie
@leewilkie
Thank you @ajsummerfield. Yes, not long now!
Andy
@ajsummerfield
Few days definitely caused some head scratch moments, but have rather enjoyed it tjis year and actually felt like I'm getting somewhere which is nice! Never good these kinda problem solving challenges, but so far so good :)
Lee Wilkie
@leewilkie
My first time this year with AOC. Been fun (!) so far. Yesterday's challenge was a cheeky little thing wasn't it? I fell foul of the noob gotcha LOL!
Andy
@ajsummerfield
I never get very far as they start to take too long to do!
I fell for it as well dont worry, did think it was a bit easy and then WHAM, bit or googling and refactoring later I got there 😂
