Since I was absent and honestly not able to contribute anything recently I tried to catch up my pace by looking at the issues. I must admit that I have no idea what is the current state of things in the project. I feel like everyone is doing random things, what's more I don't know what everyone is doing. I would feel more comfortable if I had a concrete task to do. Feel like quitting though I don't want to.

@tastyminerals sorry didn't see your chat until now
first of all, thanks for telling us about your concerns
frustration and lapses of motivation are not unusual in any project, for a multitude of reasons
but it's important to communicate it so that we can identify the problem and solve it together
I would appreciate if you could attend tomorrow's session, so that we can discuss our roadmap, and your role in it
having said that, I'm actually quite excited about our progress since last week -- we have the RasPi here now, and we've integrated our domain model into the build process, so that we can chain everything together for the app, testing, and deployment

hi, I am trying to build the EllaVator project and after updating the submodules I still get error:
EllaVator/src/main/java/JsgfExpander.java:1: error: package edu.cmu.sphinx.jsgf does not exist
as well as package edu.cmu.sphinx.linguist.dictionary and package edu.cmu.sphinx.linguist.language.grammar do not exist
tastyminerals
@tastyminerals
ok, solved it by removing opendial and sphinx dirs and running "git submodule update --recursive"
naszka
@naszka
hi, I am trying to fix the same issue, but after update --recursive it only checks out opendial but not sphinx. I tried to add sphinx again as a submodule but it says it already exists in the index.
naszka
@naszka
sorry, back to the original problem: EllaVator/src/main/java/JsgfExpander.java:1: error: package edu.cmu.sphinx.jsgf does not exist
Why are there no source packages under sphinx4-core? (I only have dependencies and build scripts folder)
psibre
@psibre
@naszka did you run git submodule init?
naszka
@naszka
yes, but looks like not in the right order. After remove, add, init, everything is fine again.

Trying out running gradlew.bat gives me the following error in windows cmd "Error: Could not find or load main class org.gradle.wrapper.GradleWrapperMain"
JAVA_HOME is set
tastyminerals
@tastyminerals
figured it out, it was a windows git issue, but sometimes "git add -f gradle/wrapper/gradle-wrapper.jar" might work.
I am however getting gradlew build errors like this:

C:\dev\EllaVator\sphinx4\sphinx4-core\src\main\java\edu\cmu\sphinx\alignment\USEnglishTokenizer.java:433: error: illegal character: '\u00a6'
text = text.replace('…', ' ');
^
C:\dev\EllaVator\sphinx4\sphinx4-core\src\main\java\edu\cmu\sphinx\alignment\USEnglishTokenizer.java:433: error: unclosed character literal
text = text.replace('…', ' ');
^
100 errors

FAILURE: Build failed with an exception.

@bryandeng
Apparently Windows doesn't handle Unicode properly.
tastyminerals
@tastyminerals
it does not, did anybody try to compile it on win32?
tastyminerals
@tastyminerals
managed to fix this by adding environment variable JAVA_TOOL_OPTIONS = -Dfile.encoding=UTF-8
tastyminerals
@tastyminerals
I can't build the project for some reason unknown.
Here is the error
  • What went wrong:
    Execution failed for task ':expandGrammarEnglish'.
    Process 'command 'C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.8.0_45\bin\java.exe'' finished with non-zero exit value
tastyminerals
@tastyminerals
Who uses win8 and is able to build it?
psibre
@psibre
try this in the buildscript:
tasks.withType(Compile) {
  options.encoding = "UTF-8"
 }
tastyminerals
@tastyminerals
where should it be put in build.gradle?
psibre
@psibre
the allprojects block seems like the place, in case it affects more than one subproject
tastyminerals
@tastyminerals
added into allprojects { } block, gradlew.bat reports an error:
  • What went wrong:
    A problem occurred evaluating root project 'EllaVator'.
    Could not find property 'Compile' on root project 'EllaVator'.
tastyminerals
@tastyminerals
Also, can you please tell me the root password for rasppi, I thought it was "Vator", but it is wrong
tastyminerals
@tastyminerals
tried tasks.withType(JavaCompile) (Compile was deprecated) but no luck

today I tried to run SerialController test file on a rasppi instance. I created a jar with mainclass: SerialController. java -jar build/lib/EllaVator.jar failed to run it reporting with "NoClassDefFoundError" for pi4j SerialPortException. I looked into the compiled jar file and saw no presence of SerialPortException.class of course. I also looked through the project files and could not find pi4j source files anywhere. As I understand gradle should be able to take care of things like this. How do you correctly build the jar then?

Hi guys, I can't register for this course in hispos. I found "1523 Software project: Spoken Dialogue Systems" but when I click on the link nothing happens :(

Today I got my membership for Git Large File Storage. https://git-lfs.github.com/
I think it's ideal for our needs to store some language model files.

Ingmar can you please write instructions of how to compile a runnable jar file with all deps inside. It's been a second time that I try to compile a jar and gradlew build something funny into it, like classes without any dependecies destined never to run.
tastyminerals
@tastyminerals
So. right now when I run ./gradlew jar, it creates a jar with "edu", "grammar_de", "grammar_en" and "META-INF" folders and our main classes which won't work obviously. I thought gradle automatically includes the required dependencies.

@bryandeng I've been playing around with LFS on MPI's GH Enterprise instance, but have some issues with the open-source client -- can't authenticate
@tastyminerals you want something like the gradle-shadow-plugin; have a look at https://github.com/marytts/marytts-txt2wav/blob/gradle/build.gradle for a usage example

I am trying to write .tex file but getting "Emergency stop" error upon compilation of main_project_report_file.tex for the following line: Baudrate\footnote{https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_port#Speed} (using 115200 as default).
I assume it does not like the dot in the url, but gradle.tex file has the same notation and does not fail. What is wrong with my file I wonder.
