Hi! I want to apply to the programme and increase my chances as much as I can. I wanted to start with Codewars, but my languages (HTML/CSS) are not supported and I'm just starting to learn JavaScript - is it too bad that I can't contribute to Codewars in a meaningful way?
D Sofer
@sofer
@karbasa no problem. Start on the codecademy HTML/CSS tracks first.
Natalia Karbasova
@karbasa
I've finished them already :)
another short question - I live in Germany, but have a Russian citizenship - based on the FA admission, would I be able to obtain a visa - is there any official confirmation that you could supply me with in case I'm admitted to the course?
D Sofer
@sofer
@karbasa interesting question. I just don't know. We are not an officially-recognised school, so you would have to make enquiries with the relevant authorities. I would be curious to know what they say.
Natalia Karbasova
@karbasa
@sofer Ok, I'll let you know when I have found out more, thanks!
Naaz
@naazy
Hi everyone! Just wanted to say hi. I'm applying for the September course and trying to work my way through Code Wars at the moment. How's everyone finding the prerequisites? What does every do with their lives? (job wise/student wise/FUNemployment wise etc...)
Naaz
@naazy
I've just created my first kata! i think it's a lot less complicated than all of the others up there so give it a whirl / feel free to contribute to it to make it better: http://www.codewars.com/kata/554003323fd6af1c4200004e
D Sofer
@sofer
@naazy welcome. And I love the kata.
Nick
@nick6m
@naazy That Kata was nice. I'd add a little more to the description though, just to clarify that you're looking for a boolean to be returned and maybe an example.
Nathan
@natoucs
Hey, I am Nathan, I am also applying for the September course. I'm a student of London and when I finish my exams in June, I will be joining everyone for the course prequisities. Looking forward to it !

Welcome Nathan @natoucs, glad you can join us!

@karbasa
nice to see this place is getting crowded :)

@naazy
Nice meeting some of you on Friday. I created a few katas this weekend and was wondering if someone would be able to give me a hand with this one: http://www.codewars.com/kata/5545f847bd94d050be00011d
At the moment, the kata accepts "words" like "what makes the", "e des", "i" or even "," and I want to edit it so it only accepts full words. Any help with this would be hugely appreciated! Thanks!
D Sofer
@sofer
@karbasa @naazy @nick6m @natoucs I know this will seem a bit silly as we have just opened this group up, but we are moving communications over to https://gitter.im/codingforeveryone
See you all over there.
powderham
@powderham
@sofer is there a particular part of https://gitter.im/codingforeveryone we're supposed to be communicating in?
D Sofer
@sofer
@powderham that's a good starting point. See also https://gitter.im/codingforeveryone/js
ijelonek
@ijelonek
@naazy - I've tried your kata but I don't quite understand what this means " For decimal numbers, return true only if the number is equal to its integer part and the integer part is odd." - I've passed most of the test but failing at ones such as -1.629 (absolute number is 1.629 - rounded to floor is 1 so it's odd? or -155.2? Not sure where my thinking went wrong...
Naaz
@naazy
@ijelonek you're right that is confusing! I'm not even sure what I meant 😕
(It doesn't make a lot of sense!)
Naaz
@naazy
I have changed it to what I think makes sense!
ijelonek
@ijelonek
Thanks @naazy - I cracked it now, although now it seemed too easy as there was no need to worry about the decimals :) that's a good beginner kata though :)

Peter Rhodes
@RhodesPeter
Hey @/all, anyone out there want to collaborate to create a new kata?
Aubrey
@nancychu
Hey All! Aubrey here from Canada! I'm chugging through all the prereqs now for an application for November (My ultimate dream is to work as a developer in London). Can't wait to churn our some katas and collaborate with some of you!
Peter Rhodes
@RhodesPeter
Hey @nancychu! Welcome to the group.
Let me know on here if you need any help with your application/codewars etc.
This group isn’t very active so check out some of the other coding for everyone groups too.
Aubrey
@nancychu
Thanks @RhodesPeter! :smile: I'll say my hellos in the other rooms as well.
Steph McLeod
@StephanieMcLeod
Hello everyone! Yikes, I have just discovered this whole thing, and not sure if I'll be able to meet all the prerequisites in time for the next intake... Anyone have any great learning advice I would love to hear it! I'm just finishing up code-academy, and moving into code-wars now. Hopefully see some of you in person at a meet-up! :sparkles:
