Bianca Mihai
@biancamihai
anyway if you are thining to move on angular then you will have this API on node+express that can be used by any app (web app like angular) or in the future a mobile app ;)
Ashley Drake
@aldraco
that was the hope
Bianca Mihai
@biancamihai
great! :)
Ashley Drake
@aldraco
where does one do the indexing? (in reference to your #2 point)
Bianca Mihai
@biancamihai
you can add indexes in the model
Ashley Drake
@aldraco
thanks
Bianca Mihai
@biancamihai
@aldraco you can use http://apiary.io/ to design and test the api, it is very helpful
Ashley Drake
@aldraco
Hey everyone, I'm hoping to make progress on installing moment.js and getting some nice time zone conversion happening.
Germaine Pannell
@germainep
that’s great I finally got the deep population issue I was having fixed so I should be starting on visualization this evening or tonight
Ashley Drake
@aldraco
wooooooooo we're soooo cloooseeee
Germaine Pannell
@germainep
I should be able to do a pull request today with the front-end without visualization complete then we can decide if we want to merge the angular branch
Ashley Drake
@aldraco
can't see why not
Ashley Drake
@aldraco
@germainep about visualization - are you looking to work with times in UTC format or local?
Germaine Pannell
@germainep
UTC but I would think the it shouldn’t be hard to change at a later date
Ashley Drake
@aldraco
ok.
Ashley Drake
@aldraco
right now, i'm struggling with figuring out how to convert the times. They're saved in terms of local time, so if I put in 12pm while my computer is in EST, it saves on the server as 4pm UTC, which is correct. When the meeting json is returned, I see the times in UTC, which is good. When I console.log the times, they're in EST, which is fine. I know we can display times using moment.js in the browser in the correct time zone and even let people change it.
what i can't figure out is, can I actually return a date to the user in that json that's in their time zone? And do we even want to do that?
basically - is the time zone conversion display logic, application logic, or both?
Germaine Pannell
@germainep
try testing it this way change your system time zone and see if the timezone that the meeting shows up in changes too
Ashley Drake
@aldraco
that part worked as well
Germaine Pannell
@germainep
If thats the case we dont need to do any conversion of the time at all the browser will base it off the current timezone so all time should be based off the system timezone
Andrew Corcoran
@corca
I think the time zone conversion should happen on the user side so it can be manipulated easily. If you return local time, it becomes much more difficult to handle on the user side.
Ashley Drake
@aldraco
sounds good to me
and less complicated
Andrew Corcoran
@corca
It may also be nice to always show the current time based on their selected time zone so the user knows their time zone setting is correct. My system time zone settings are all over the place when I travel for work.
Germaine Pannell
@germainep
when you guys make changes make sure to check all branch to make sure the issue isn’t being fixed in another branch
Ashley Drake
@aldraco
what are the various editors/task runners that people are using, and do we want to include something like a gulpfile etc in the project?
i'd love to hear people's thoughts.
Thiago Ferreira
@ThiagoFerreir4
Hi all! Should I just delete the nbproject folder? It's not really adding anything to the project anyway.
I'm back to NetBeans and am using Sublime text 2 also
I had to make a few tweaks to netbeans to make it work better though
Ashley Drake
@aldraco
glad it's working out for you
Thiago Ferreira
@ThiagoFerreir4
just found a lot of errors in multiple files. Here's a screen grab of some of them:
errors_screencapt.jpg
Aza Noriega
@MegaGM
@ThiagoFerreir4 But I see no errors there, on the screenshot, it's just ECMAScript6. Did you try to update smth in NetBeans? (I never used NetBeans, so, I dunno what exactly you need to update)
Thiago Ferreira
@ThiagoFerreir4
Actually I don't know anything about how those files are supposed to look like without errors. I just know that when there's something wrong with a given file netbeans shows it as an error. And btw, that screen grab is just a portion of the files that net beans found to have possible errors
I'm just checking though as @draco found some funny error while trying one of the view files
Germaine Pannell
@germainep
good morning guys
Germaine Pannell
@germainep
the jade error turned out to be a missing space
Germaine Pannell
@germainep
:point_up: April 6 2015 1:57 PM on this matter, I think at this point there is no real need to make this uniform I personally use grunt as it fits well into my current workflow. This allows everyone to keep a workflow that they are comfortable with
morning everyone can I get an idea of what everyone is working on at this point. I’m about to pick the next section I’m going to work on and don’t want to step on anyone else’s toes
Ashley Drake
@aldraco
Morning. I'm out of town for a few days but if I get a chance I'll do a once over on error handling in the API
Germaine Pannell
@germainep
ok
I was able to get that jade error handled I’m doing a pull request in a few to have that fixed also I’m trying to get the views to render in jade so I dont have to convert them after changes
I’m also working on linking the social media account today
Ashley Drake
@aldraco
Oh yeah I saw your idea about GitHub, I think that would be good to have
Thiago Ferreira
@ThiagoFerreir4
having a github link would be great
Germaine Pannell
@germainep
as of today I have Facebook working and you can add it to the current account
Germaine Pannell
@germainep
I’ll have the others able to be added by the end of the day I had to get the views working in jade first
