[discord] <Cwilks138> ah
[discord] <Cwilks138> this is what i have
FreeCADGitter
@FreeCADGitter
[discord] <GA3D_tech> yeah it is okay, just show it in draw style shaded, it is less ugly
FreeCADGitter
@FreeCADGitter
[discord] <spyder_drive> Any documentation on that?
FreeCADGitter
@FreeCADGitter
[discord] <bance> Check other posts from the same dev.
[irc] <XXCoder> bance wanted to say thanks :D (not sure if saw earlier)
FreeCADGitter
@FreeCADGitter
[discord] <bance> You are welcome.
FreeCADGitter
@FreeCADGitter
[discord] <spyder_drive> @bance ance and @drmacro , the weird thing about facebinder is that when you use facebinder to bind a face, It CANNOT be extruded in part workbench
[discord] <spyder_drive> However, when you UPGRADE the facebinder through Draft workbench, you can then extrude it!
[discord] <spyder_drive> How does that work?
FreeCADGitter
@FreeCADGitter
[discord] <bance> Works OK for me.
FreeCADGitter
@FreeCADGitter
[discord] <spyder_drive> Hmm I'll have to try that again
FreeCADGitter
@FreeCADGitter
[discord] <Mistermaker> I think the facebinder is reference geometry, and if you upgrade it it turns into a regular face. Which would be an illegal move in most CAD programs XD
FreeCADGitter
@FreeCADGitter
[discord] <spyder_drive> Autodesk does this by default, lol
[discord] <spyder_drive> As long as the shape is a closed shape
FreeCADGitter
@FreeCADGitter
[discord] <drmacro> But...we aren't using an Autodesk product are we.😎 A facebinder can be extruded, directly.
FreeCADGitter
@FreeCADGitter
[discord] <bance> Wot 'e said!
FreeCADGitter
@FreeCADGitter
[irc] <jdmark> are there any GUI mods that make the GUI more like Fusion360?
FreeCADGitter
@FreeCADGitter
[discord] <spyder_drive> E said wot, mate?
FreeCADGitter
@FreeCADGitter
[discord] <bance> FC is not autodesk or SW or Fusion360 or any other.
[discord] <bance> So it is fruitless to state softwareXYZ does this or that, why doesn't FC?
[discord] <bance> On the other hand, FC is open, that means if one really wants a feature that is available elsewhere, one is free to roll up the sleeves and code it.
[discord] <bance> That's "wot 'e said"
FreeCADGitter
@FreeCADGitter
[discord] <bance> Never used confusion$360 so I wouldn't know. FC however is very configurable, search the wiki for customise.
FreeCADGitter
@FreeCADGitter
[discord] <bance> And if you really care about this, you could develop one of the new preference packs so that configuration could be shared easily.
FreeCADGitter
@FreeCADGitter
[discord] <spyder_drive> Awesome but how in the world do we get started?
[discord] <bance> As usual the wiki is your friend...... https://wiki.freecadweb.org/Preference_Packs
FreeCADGitter
@FreeCADGitter
[discord] <drmacro> Why people choose use a different software, then proceed to make it like what they chose to not use seems counterproductive. But, preferences have nothing to do with facebinder. If your facebinder is not extruding, there is probably a reason, because facebinders extrude in Part workbench.

@FreeCADGitter
[irc] <Yacou> Oi
FreeCADGitter
@FreeCADGitter
[discord] <Tonedus> Guys, please tell me if FreeCAD can be a full replacement for Fusion360 for gamedev?
[discord] <anticitizen> for video game development??
FreeCADGitter
@FreeCADGitter
[discord] <Qewer> never heard CAD for gamedev...
[discord] <Obelisk> As long as you are capable of working with files exported from FreeCAD I don't see why not. However, any sort of complex organic types of shapes/models would be rather difficult or near impossible to do in FreeCAD, not really any different than Fusion.
FreeCADGitter
@FreeCADGitter
[irc] <XXCoder> modeling for games? blender is better id think
FreeCADGitter
@FreeCADGitter
[discord] <drmacro> I'll chime in a say, as much as I like FreeCAD, I'd go with Blender for such things. But, if you are looking for hard body modeling for games, I'd do that in FreeCAD and then use sverchok nodes to read the FreeCAD files into Blender.
[discord] <Qewer> he could be talking about tabletop games
[discord] <Qewer> in that case FreeCAD can be useful by itself, not for D&D type of figures (blender for those) but for dices and other stuff maybe
[irc] <teus> im working on some things in sketcher with weird geometries
FreeCADGitter
@FreeCADGitter
[irc] <teus> is it possible to draw things as guides, which don't count towards the part?
[discord] <Qewer> construction geometry
[irc] <teus> now I just draw some lines, give them the right constraints, draw what I actually want to model
[irc] <teus> and then delete them
[irc] <teus> cool, thanks
[irc] <XXCoder> yeah blue lines and stuff. its not counted :) I love those
[irc] <teus> perfect
FreeCADGitter
@FreeCADGitter
[discord] <bance> Judicious use of constraints can make most construction geometry unnecessary. I hardly ever use construction geometry.
FreeCADGitter
@FreeCADGitter
[discord] <bance> As a rule sketches should be as simple as possible, use more of them and keep them simple.
