bnmorganrecently RETIRED .....is it friday yet?
bnmorganhad to use unigraphics alongside solidworks for a while at corp job, and it was infuriating.
GeitMinthowever importing and using measurements from other sketches is far more future prove
AbleBaconand how is that done?
AbleBaconah, construction mode! thanks
AbleBacondidn't know that existed
GeitMinthowever. Be aware that using external geometerie will easy render your hole part useless.
AbleBaconi've tried to "use external geometry" on outside sketches and it doesn't let me
GeitMintbecause everything is linked by names
AbleBaconthese sketches are on different planes
GeitMintand if you e.g. edit an early sketch all references will jump around to random surfaces and edges
GeitMint-> brocken object
GeitMintsame whyt happens to campfers etc, if you modify the part while they where applied.
AbleBaconhow does anybody get anything done if everything is always breaking?
GeitMintyeah, a gigantic design flaw of FreeCAD
GeitMintby using DatumPlanes and sketch ontop of them without doing any reference.
GeitMintso if you add a screw hole in the first face the revolution falls appart and you need to repair the axle reference.
GeitMintI don´t get why this isn´t high priority on the bug fixing list, but it is not. It seems it is more easy to publish tons of videos how to avoid all the problems and teach how to work around bugs
AbleBaconi read somewhere that "shapebinder" might help with external geometry, but it's not appearing in the correct place
GeitMintI mean if I kill a hole I have a reference to, it is my fault, when it breaks appart, but currently all external reference must be avoided or you will be doomed.
GeitMintshapebinder are for multi body references, while datum planes are for references within bodies.
GeitMintnever used shape binders. I mostly create a datum plane for e.g. front, back etc of my Object and construct on that using distances from center.
GeitMintmodeling however gets much more complex as you sometimes need to add measurements to calculate the offset for datum planes position
GeitMintbasically its like when you create a cube and set a champfer. If you later on add a hole to that sketch used to create the cube, the champfer will move to one other edge.
GeitMintbecause the chamfer is linked to edge 9 and when adding a hole you added 2 new edges, so the chamfer still gets linked to edge 9, even if it should be edge 11
AbleBaconok thanks for the help
AbleBaconi just wish there were more like... ability to use constraints in 3D mode
