scgtrp andre_kal: i've looked into it before and didn't find anything
scgtrp i keep meaning to try implementing it but i have too many other projects already

@FreeCADGitter
andre_kal scgtrp, Ok, I see, thanks!

markvandenborre ok, so this is silly; I forgot to add an 18mm layer of osb in my design
markvandenborre in the mean time, I have a group of ~50 pieces
markvandenborre that would all need to move up 18mm in the z axis
markvandenborre is that possible to do with freecad?
markvandenborre (except for moving every single piece higher individually?)
FreeCADGitter
@FreeCADGitter
markvandenborre or is that only possible with something like a macro?
markvandenborre "find every member of this group and move it up 18mm"
markvandenborre ?
andre_kal markvandenborre, It works to just select multiple parts and change the position, doesn't it?
andre_kal Works for me at least. I can select multiple parts or bodies and when I change the position, it affects them all

@FreeCADGitter
markvandenborre andre_kal: I've found several solutions right now, not sure which one is preferable
markvandenborre andre_kal: select all objects in the groups
markvandenborre then go to edit -> placement...
andre_kal Well, the python console would be the most flexible I guess, especially if you have loads of objects.
markvandenborre thank you for the hint
markvandenborre it's been a productive day
markvandenborre I've modeled most of the foundation for our countryside house, and the first bits above ground
markvandenborre I believe it's the fourth or fifth time I'm starting to use FreeCAD, but now I really have a very practical goal
markvandenborre and somewhat of a deadline, for our contractor will soon be starting to work...
andre_kal You're going to use FreeCAD for architecture? I heard it wasn't the most intuitive thing to do, good luck!
FreeCADGitter
@FreeCADGitter
markvandenborre andre_kal: yes, it helps that the house is fairly simple in terms of structure
markvandenborre wood framed, rectangular
markvandenborre fairly symmetrical
markvandenborre andre_kal: it also helps I'm fairly new to the entire thing
andre_kal markvandenborre, Well, hope it works out ^^
andre_kal Use a VCS if possible

x2s Hi! Is it possible to link a pad or sketch from one part to another? I'd like to have a base part for a front and back of a case. But when I change the base part I want the change mapped to both child parts
FreeCADGitter
@FreeCADGitter
markvandenborre I have a (draft) array of simple objects
markvandenborre basicly, one object arrayed
markvandenborre can I convert that array into individual "real" objects?
markvandenborre so that I can (re)move or modify the individual array constituent cloned objects?
markvandenborre use case I'm looking at is a stud wall with windows
markvandenborre x2s: sorry, if I could answer I'd gladly do so, but I'm fairly new myself...
FreeCADGitter
@FreeCADGitter
x2s no problem at all. I just wait a bit more
x2s Haven't used freecad for a year now. I think it was somehow possible, but I keep forgetting those small details
markvandenborre I find that every time I retry FreeCAD I have to relearn it
markvandenborre great program, but I don't use it often enough to use it to its full potential
FreeCADGitter
@FreeCADGitter
x2s I have the same problem. Still, I remember the basics. Make a body, do a sketch, make a pad and such things
matrixbot
@matrixbot
flux same with blender, but perhaps even worse ;).
FreeCADGitter
@FreeCADGitter
x2s well, I think I can mirror that part
x2s that should work as a "linked copy"

Knaldgas I've converted a complex shape from STL over mesh to Solid. Now I wish to make it hollow. Using "Thickness" gives me an error "BRep_Tool:: TopDS_Vertex hasn't GP_Pnt". The intention is to make it hollow so when 3D-printed, only the shell is printed. Any hints?

jthornton do that in the slicer
jthornton yes, that is a setting in the slicer
Knaldgas jthornton, slic3r?
