well if one is experienced in d3 going to the new version would be not a problem
but there is also issues with bugs etc, because its a new version
better wait 6 month before upgrading, have it more stable
I am just going through the source code and learning about layouts, so,.., I will stick to the "old" version for now

For something as basic as what I'm doing I'm not at all worried about bugs. The learning curve is an issue though because I don't JavaScript. Before working on this I hadn't touched it in months, and even then I barely knew what I was doing.

I would say , dive into js first before doing anything (including d3)
