I've used it before and I'm not going to put myself through that ever again.
I still have nightmares. Google APIs are the reason I hate APIs

There's a difference between anonymity online and in a small village; the latter has physical boundaries without much leverage. The first has a tail risk that can be disproportionate for the individual. The other question becomes; how much advantage do the 'bad guys' have? Why isn't it the case that high profile figures are disproportionate less under attack than ordinary people. If there is no anonimity how come identity theft and all other ailments are so hard to do for high profile figures? Maybe the data shows that the pay off is still greater for the triplet (government, corporations and crooks). What do we make of that? Should we become online soldiers to protect ourselves from harm that society is unable to keep pace with?

@becausealice2 http://nominatim.openstreetmap.org/ is an option
but really I think downloading a shapefile of all the states and then performing an operation against it with your dataset is the easiest way
In [13]: cities_with_country = gpd.sjoin(cities, countries, how="inner", op='intersects')

Hi guys, I am new here and I really want to learn data science. From where should I start?

@D3V4N5H Hi! Thanks for the offer! Stay tuned, we are always thinking about small projects about data analysis!

@aayushis12 If you want, you can start here, by looking at questions to answer about the 2017's New Developer Survey!

@apottr I'll look into it, thanks. Doggo has been super sick and possibly has liver damage so I'm not getting any work done, but I'll try it out when I can and let you know how it goes.

@/all hey data enthusiasts, I'm preparing a series of short videos on topics like statistics, data science, and data engineering for freeCodeCamp's YouTube channel. There are a ton of topics to cover, and I could use your help. We need to:

  • decide what topics to cover
  • write basic talking points for these topics
  • actually record them using a whiteboard, screencast, green screen, or some combination of these.

It will be a lot of work, but also a lot of fun. And it will be a great portfolio item to point to on your resume. All of the major contributors to freeCodeCamp's YouTube channel have said that being able to point to their videos - with their thousands of views - was instrumental in successfully landing their developer jobs.

freeCodeCamp's YouTube channel gets about 1,000 new subscribers a day and is quickly becoming one of the biggest programming YouTube channels.

Who's with me?

@erictleung Sounds awesome, when do you need topics by? I don't know if giving a general overview of how coding can support areas like statistics and such? Maybe delving into some techniques also..?

@Simmonds14 we can maybe go into techniques as well. I guess that would fall under "data engineering". I think within the next couple weeks would be nice to get a running list. I've created a repository to keep my notes and create draft presentations.

erictleung/machine-learning#1 can be where we can discuss asynchronously for people interested. I've created as a starting base for some pages to look at for ideas on topics to cover.

At the very least, if you or anyone has an area of data science or something that is interesting or you'd like to learn more about, let me know and I can consider that in the series. It would be ideal to cover topics that are of interest and value to the community and broader context.
