The directions say "Inside the same <style> tag that we created for your red-text class, set the font-size of all p elements to 16 pixels (16px)."
Andrew Peterson
@thingsastray
Nov 21 2015 00:01
So where is your font-size referancing right now
which element?
Jefferson Michael Oakey
@jmoakey
Nov 21 2015 00:01
It supposed to be for the 2nd paragraph
Bill
@kirah1314
Nov 21 2015 00:01
@jmoakey in your codes, the element is h2
h1{
font-size: 16px;
}
Andrew Peterson
@thingsastray
Nov 21 2015 00:02
you have it on h2
thats your header
you need to point to paragraph
Jefferson Michael Oakey
@jmoakey
Nov 21 2015 00:02
so do I need to put it below the first paragraph?
Andrew Peterson
@thingsastray
Nov 21 2015 00:02
no to all paragraphs
how would you do that
Jefferson Michael Oakey
@jmoakey
Nov 21 2015 00:02
I'm sorry guys, I need total clarity, I'm brand new and jargon ignorant
Andrew Peterson
@thingsastray
Nov 21 2015 00:02
its ol
ok
Im letting you work through instead of giving you the answer
you wont learn by giving you the answer
so its point where right now
pointing*
Jefferson Michael Oakey
@jmoakey
Nov 21 2015 00:04
I get that you're making me work through it, thank you for that. I don't understand the question
Andrew Peterson
@thingsastray
Nov 21 2015 00:05
Ok so you have font-size in the h2 {} right
Jefferson Michael Oakey
@jmoakey
Nov 21 2015 00:05
If it's under the h2 is it IN the h2?
Bill
@kirah1314
Nov 21 2015 00:05
@jmoakey @thingsastray means paragraph as <p>
Andrew Peterson
@thingsastray
Nov 21 2015 00:06
yes
Jefferson Michael Oakey
@jmoakey
Nov 21 2015 00:06
I thought that what is above applies to what's below
Andrew Peterson
@thingsastray
Nov 21 2015 00:06
no
Jefferson Michael Oakey
@jmoakey
Nov 21 2015 00:06
Ok, so does the style of the font need to be below the paragraph?
Andrew Peterson
@thingsastray
Nov 21 2015 00:06
if it is written like this: h2{font-size:16px:}
its change the font size of the second header
its changing
for you to change the paragrap
Jefferson Michael Oakey
@jmoakey
Nov 21 2015 00:07
It needs to be p to change the paragraph
?
Andrew Peterson
@thingsastray
Nov 21 2015 00:07
Exactly
Jefferson Michael Oakey
@jmoakey
Nov 21 2015 00:08
ok, I think I understand. They don't specify that in the directions. Thank you
Andrew Peterson
@thingsastray
Nov 21 2015 00:08
Yw
So @jmoakey moving forward. anthing with h means header, anything with p means p.
Jefferson Michael Oakey
@jmoakey
Nov 21 2015 00:11
I got all of that, I just didn't realize that the letter before the bracket denoted where the CSS applies. The example used h so i used h
Andrew Peterson
@thingsastray
Nov 21 2015 00:12
yes so anything you do in h will change anything label h that is out side of the <style></style>
Jefferson Michael Oakey
@jmoakey
Nov 21 2015 00:16
Right on, thanks!

hello all! i am stumped with reverse arrays with .reverse (#10 on obj oriented & functional programming.)

var newArray = array.reverse(array);

its clearing on everything except the "use reverse method" check mark

Andrew Peterson
@thingsastray
Nov 21 2015 00:44
you need to label the array

@stlachman You should probably add .gray-bacground class to css section and then add it to the div like
<div class="gray-backdroung"></div>
and you are adding gray background to all the divs
specify a class for adding background

Hi! I know I am missing something but not sure what.
Now you know three ways of targeting elements: by type: $("button"), by class: $(".btn"), and by id $("#target1"). Using each of the above jQuery selectors and the addClass() function:
Add the btn-primary class to the button with id #target1.
I put:

<script>
$(document).ready(function() {
$("button").addClass(animated);
$(".btn").addClass(animated-shake);
$("#target1").addClass(btn-primary);
});
</script>

@vlb152 For better understanding, you were referencing form action. There’s no such thing. There’s a <form> tag and the action is an attribute to the form tag. Hope that helps.

I am working on the Bonfire: Seek and Destroy exercise. Ran into the solution but why are the numbers in args.splice(0, 1); 0 and 1? And -1 for indexOf?

function destroyer(arr) {
var args = Array.prototype.slice.call(arguments);
args.splice(0, 1);
return arr.filter(function(element) {
return args.indexOf(element) === -1;
});
}

Oh, thanks for the help!
Rex Schrader
@SaintPeter
Nov 21 2015 03:25
@seonajoo26 Ok, couple of things going on here:
1) args.splice(0,1) is removing the first element of args. That's the array that you're seraching and destroying from.
@seonajoo26 2) Array.indexOf returns the index of a value if it is found. Remember that Javascript has zero based indexes, so 0 is a valid number for it to return. If it doesn't find anything it returns -1, because that is NOT a valid index for an array.

Hey guys,

Nov 21 2015 03:28

@seonajoo26 Looking at this code:

return arr.filter(function(element) {
return args.indexOf(element) === -1;
});

filter takes a callback function as a parameter. It calls that function on each element of the array (arr). When that callback returns true, it keeps the value, when it returns false, that element is discarded. So the filter will remove anything where the element is found in args.

@SaintPeter I just came across this situation. Some new jQuery challenges were added to the jQuery section, so the "map" turned to be not complete(green circle with a tick in it). It would be nice if when new challenges are added to a section, that section(jQuery in this case) be identified as such, maybe with a small NEW or a golden * or something. Else one might get confused as to why a previously completed section turns out incomplete. I think you're the right person to inform this to!
Rex Schrader
@SaintPeter
Nov 21 2015 04:30
@Manish-Giri Ah HA! That feature is now present. With the new challenges I am going to be working on over the next week, they will (should) show up with a NEW flag next to them, for precisely this reason.

Waypoint: Create a Bootstrap Headline

Now let's build something from scratch to practice our HTML, CSS and Bootstrap skills.

We'll build a jQuery playground, which we'll soon put to use in our jQuery challenges.

To start with, create an h3 element, with the text jQuery Playground.

Color your h3 element with the text-primary Bootstrap class, and center it with the text-center Bootstrap class.

so we need to style manually
but you need to keyp href=“#” for home

:point_right: js ternary [wiki]

The Ternary operator replaces an if/then block in a very small compact way.
It's mostly used in one liners for simple tests and replacements, like this:

var x = false;
var s = x ? "yes" : "no";
console.log(s);  //→ "no"

@Jauble you could export your bookmarks to html and import them the same if you want unless you mean syncing or something

@HermanFassett
Nov 21 2015 07:24
Does signing into chrome do that?
Jason
@Jauble
Nov 21 2015 07:25
Ya, but I don't know if I want to constantly be signed in, and I don't want to have to sign in every time I update a bookmark. I figured if I could sync them with google drive I wouldn't have to worry about it.

Waypoint: Use CSS Selectors to Style Elements
With CSS, there are hundreds of CSS properties that you can use to change the way an element looks on your page.

When you entered <h2 style="color: red">CatPhotoApp</h2>, you were giving that individual h2 element an inline style

That's one way to add style to an element, but a better way is by using CSS, which stands for Cascading Style Sheets

At the top of your code, create a style element like this:

<style>

</style>

Inside that style element, you can create a CSS selector for all h2 elements. For example, if you wanted all h2 elements to be red, your style element would look like this:

<style>

h2 {color: red;}

</style>

Note that it's important to have both opening and closing curly braces ({ and }) around each element's style. You also need to make sure your element's style is between the opening and closing style tags. Finally, be sure to add the semicolon to the end of each of your element's styles.

Delete your h2 element's style attribute and instead create a CSS style element. Add the necessary CSS to turn all h2 elements blue.

@suezl You specify your fonts like that: font-family: firstfont, secondfont; And if the first font is not available (like in this case you comment out the link to the font) the second font is selected for your element.

jQuery uses CSS Selectors to target elements. target:nth-child(n) css selector allows you to select all the nth element with the target class or element type.
