Anyone know why I'm getting undefined? My slice isn't working on my array:
function truncate(str, num) {
  // Clear out that junk in your trunk
  var strArr = str.split("");
  var strLength = strArr.length;
  var result = [];

  if(strLength > num) {
    if(strLength > 3) {
      strArr = strArr.slice(0, num + 1);
      result.push(str.Arr + "...");
    }
  }

  return result;
}

truncate("A-tisket a-tasket A green and yellow basket", 11);

Bootstrap has a class called well that can create a visual sense of depth for your columns.

Nest one div element with the class well within each of your col-xs-6 div elements. ```

<div class="container-fluid">
  <h3 class="text-primary text-center">jQuery Playground</h3>
  <div class="row">
    <div class="well col-xs-6"></div>
    <div class="well col-xs-6"></div>
  </div>
</div>
HELP!
DJ
@qualitymanifest
Feb 05 2016 00:17
@yagosvl you're supposed to apply it directly to p elements, not to the .red-text class
@yagosvl
<style>
p {
stuff here
}
</style>

@jonathantimm
Feb 05 2016 00:18
@Mashadim you're also supposed to return a string, and right now your return is an array

@Mashadim

function repeat(str, num) {
  if(num === Math.abs(num)) { // if num is positive
var a='';
for(var i = num; i > 0; i--) {
a += str;
    }
  }
return a;;
}

repeat("abc", 3);

?

DJ
@qualitymanifest
Feb 05 2016 00:19

:point_right: bonfire no repeats please [wiki]

Problem Explanation:

  • This task requires us to look at each possible permutation of a string. This is best done using a recursion function. Being able to build a function which collects all permutations of a string is a common interview question, so there is no shortage of tutorials out there on how to do this, in many different code languages.
  • This task can still be daunting even after watching a tutorial. You will want to send each new use of the function 3 inputs: 1. a new string (or character array) that is being built, 2. a position in your new string that's going to be filled next, and 3. an idea of what characters (more specifically positions) from the original string have yet to be used. The pseudo code will look something like this:

    ```
    var str = ???;
    perm(current position in original string, what's been used in original string, current string build thus far){
    if(current string is finished) {
    print current string;
    }else{
    for(var i = 0; i < str.length; i++) {
    if(str[i] has not been used) {
      put str[i] into the current position;
      mark str[i] as used
      perm(current position in original string, what's been used in original string, current string build thus far)
      unmark str[i] as used because another branch in the tree for i + 1 will still likely use it;
    }
    }
    }
    }
Record Collection in js
here are the instructions
If value is non-blank (value !== "") and prop is not "tracks" then update or set the value for the prop.
If the prop is "tracks" and value is non-blank, push the value onto the end of the tracks array.
If value is blank, delete that prop.
Always return the entire collection object.
You can set an element's background color with the background-color property.
For example, if you wanted an element's background color to be green, you'd put this within your style element:
.green-background {
background-color: green;
}
Create a class called gray-background with the background-color of gray. Assign this class to your div element.
I have a question in the waypoint with title Testing Objects for Properties in the Basic Javascript section of Frontend Certification.
The bracket notation is working fine - return myObj[checkProp];
But, the dot notation is not working - return myObj.checkProp;
it won't convert your variable to the value
Hey i feel confused with I am being asked to do
Here are the instructions
Write a function queue which takes an array (arr) and a number (item) as arguments. Add the number to the end of the array, then remove the first element of array. The queue function should then return the element that was removed.
this is the code
function queue(arr, item) {
// Your code here
var arr = [1,2,3,4,5];
arr.shift();
return arr;
}
// Test Setup
var testArr = [1,2,3,4,5];
// Display Code
console.log("Before: " + JSON.stringify(testArr));
console.log(queue(testArr, 6)); // Modify this line to test
console.log("After: " + JSON.stringify(testArr));
Shannon Latham
@shannon-latham
Feb 05 2016 05:14
@ntbartley23 It is asking you to create the queue data structure using an array.
A queue is a first-in first-out (FIFO) data structure. This means that the first item that goes into the array should be the first item out of the array.
Thomas Noe
@t3h2mas
Feb 05 2016 05:16
feedback so far? http://codepen.io/t3h2mas/pen/zrJPvy there are a few design flaws and twitter is appending data to the tweet button url
Shannon Latham
@shannon-latham
Feb 05 2016 05:16
Most people use an array as a Last-In First-Out data structure. That's why you see items pushed and popped off the array.
When you push an item onto the array it goes on the end, and when you pop an item off the array it takes the last item that was added.
Thomas Noe
@t3h2mas
Feb 05 2016 05:17
oh there may be a code review chat room. never mind guys :)
Shannon Latham
@shannon-latham
Feb 05 2016 05:18
To implement a queue you need to insert items at the end of the array (push) but when you want to use an item you need to take it from the front of the array (shift).
@ntbartley23 Does that long winded explanation make any sense?
Najee Bartley
@ntbartley23
Feb 05 2016 05:19
@shannon-latham ok so should i approach the problem with the .push and shift method?
Shannon Latham
@shannon-latham
Feb 05 2016 05:20
@ntbartley23 yep
Feb 05 2016 05:21
@ntbartley23 You're welcome!
Najee Bartley
@ntbartley23
Feb 05 2016 05:21
@shannon-latham sorry to bother again... so what am i doing wrong in my code??
i define the variable, then use .push and .shift to add numbers to the end and take off a number in the front
Shannon Latham
@shannon-latham
Feb 05 2016 05:24
@ntbartley23 Give me just a second to review the problem.
Manish Giri
@Manish-Giri
Feb 05 2016 05:24
@ntbartley23 you don’t really need to define a variable
Najee Bartley
@ntbartley23
Feb 05 2016 05:25
@Manish-Giri OK i will fix that now
@Manish-Giri how about this?
arr.shift();
arr.push();
return arr;
function queue(arr, item) {
// Your code here
arr.shift();
arr.push();
return arr;
}
Shannon Latham
@shannon-latham
Feb 05 2016 05:26
@ntbartley23 you don't want to return the array.
@ntbartley23 you want to return the item that you are getting from the array.
Manish Giri
@Manish-Giri
Feb 05 2016 05:26
@ntbartley23 okay, first thing is - .push() has to have an argument for it to work, else you’re not really adding anything to the array
Shannon Latham
@shannon-latham
Feb 05 2016 05:27
@Manish-Giri That would probably help.
Manish Giri
@Manish-Giri
Feb 05 2016 05:27
@ntbartley23 so arr.push(item); is your first line. Here you add item to the end of arr.
Najee Bartley
@ntbartley23
Feb 05 2016 05:27
@Manish-Giri ok working on it now
Manish Giri
@Manish-Giri
Feb 05 2016 05:28
@ntbartley23 then, as @shannon-latham said, you need to return the first item from array using .shift(), you can do that with arr. shift();.
@ntbartley23 but instead of return arr;, you need to return the first item using arr. shift()
Najee Bartley
@ntbartley23
@ZeroAccess taking a quick look, the only thing I noticed off the top was a misspelling in one of your "quotes": it's "balls of steel," not "balls of steal."
So this calculator one. Just if ya don't mind let me know if I'm on the right path. Basically setting up a onclick and then it will pass a value to a switch statement that will send the value to text area or perform calculations and then send to textarea ...am I thinking this through?
@t3h2mas not bad just a personal challenge to you. You should make it where the background is dynamic to fit the quotes and work on that tweet button. Honestly after I found the solution I wanted to punch myself for spending an hour on Twitters website going through their API.
@t3h2mas oh nope...no no no ...regular ole math is good for me. I'll just let the puter do all that fancy schmancy stuff ... lol nah I'll have to learn it eventually I suppose. So basically just take the buttons and insert the values into the text area then when eval is called do something like that. Makes sense
Thomas Noe
@t3h2mas
Feb 05 2016 06:31
again, more hard mode when you can clean/validate the input then just run something like
eval("2 + 3 / 4");
the only issue that you could account for is making sure what you eval is sanitized
Glen Roberts
can anyone helpme to solve this issue
task:
1)You need 2 p elements with Kitty Ipsum text.
2)Make sure each of your p elements has a closing tag.
3)Your p element should contain the first few words of the provided additional kitty ipsum text.
4)Give elements with the p tag a font-size of 16px. Browser and Text zoom should be at 100%.
Got question, what's the scope of restoredValue here? I thought it'd be the function but apparently it's staying within the case and that's it. Am I not thinking clearly?
    function calculate(value) {
Feb 05 2016 09:24
@tyteeye510 start with creating a navigation bar....find ways to do it in bootstrap...you would need a toggle button...find ways to include it...once done try to find how to create a section...buttons with icons and so on...break down project step by step...remember that you would require lot of <div> and styling on CSS...check what are the properties which can be style using CSS... I hope you get the drift
Your h2 element should be red.
Your h2 element should have the class red-text.
Your stylesheet should declare a red-text class and have its color set to red.
Do not use inline style declarations like style="color: red" in your h2 element.
@Takumar Your answer was helpfull but i need to solve more problems like " Your h2 element should have the class red-text.
Your stylesheet should declare a red-text class and have its color set to red.
and write there attribute color with proper colour (red)
