function lookUp(firstName, prop){
// Only change code below this line

  var output;
  for (var x in contacts) {
    if (contacts[x].firstName == firstName) {

      if (contacts[x][prop] !== undefined) {

        return contacts[x][prop];
      }
      else {
        return "No such property";
      }
    }
      output = "No such contact"
  }
  return output;
}
Can anybody explain why this wouldn't work with return "No such contact"? Would that kill the 'for in' loop?

Sondra Miller

Feb 20 2016 01:56
@kkslider90 Assuming you're talking about regular expressions? At the beginning of a string, "^" is the character for the start of the string. "$" at the end of the expression represents the end of the string.
Debbie
@Chemoka
Feb 20 2016 01:57
Didn't need " "! ya!
Sondra Miller
@froggercat
Feb 20 2016 01:59
@kkslider90 So ^face specifies that "face" should be at the beginning of the string. face$ means the string must end with "face". And face will look for face anywhere in the string! Of course, I'm still assuming you mean regex... Not a lot of syntax has "optional" $ and ^, so fingers crossed this helps! :)
@kkslider90 facepalm You wrote regular expression in your question! Lol, so I didn't need to assume after all :)
@kkslider90 Good question dude!

bitgrower
@bitgrower
Feb 20 2016 02:22
yeah, I deleted it because regexes operate differently in different environments ... in my text editor, for instance, and bash, what I wrote is true ...
but not as familiar with the intricacies of js regexes...
Sondra Miller
@froggercat
Feb 20 2016 02:24

Ah I think you're right. Not sure if this is a bug but I just tried the following steps
1.) Clear code

3.) Click submit button (submits successfully, but behind the 'success' prompt you can see another button get created)
4.) When you move on to the next challenge you see two buttons from the start but doesn't seem to affect anything

What does the 'type' attribute for inputs in HTML do?
Travis Boss

sorry text and submit
Amiracle56
@Amiracle56
Feb 20 2016 04:44
@travisboss Can you clarify what specifying an input means
Umar Khan
@umar-khan
Feb 20 2016 04:44
@Amiracle56 in HTML you have an <input> element which you use when you want to get some sort of information from your user (text, date, file, etc)
You use the "type" attribute to tell the browser what type of information you want to get from the user. So suppose you want to get a date from the user
Amiracle56
@Amiracle56
Feb 20 2016 04:45
like 'type="date"'?
so your value of type can be anything?
Umar Khan
@umar-khan
Feb 20 2016 04:46
You can do <input type="date"> and your browser will create a nice little calendar type date picker for the user
You can't choose anything. There are certain ones that you can use
That link has a list of the different values for type
here's an example using 'date'

the purpose of merging is to combine all the changes ... :) ... haven't used git enough, but I have used many other source code systems ... and it will try to merge all the changes if they are non-conflicting ...

...if they are conflicting, the system will not do an automatic merge and ask you to make changes ...

Make the second child in each of your well elements bounce. You must target the children of element with the target class.
shall i do .well:nth-child() or .target:nth-child()
well is target's parent

@hernanmanzitti :nth-child() Selector selects all elements that are the nth-child of their parent. It's mean that if you want to select second .target in each .well elements you should use .well .target:nth-child()
bitgrower
@bitgrower

what kind of help do you need ?
Timofey Votyakov

@hernanmanzitti or just .target:nth-child() should work in your case, if .target elements are existing only inside .well elements.
bitgrower
@bitgrower
Feb 20 2016 05:28
yeah ... I wanted to look at the challenge, because I don't think target is a selector ... but I couldn't remember ...
"You must target the children of element with the target class"
probably is ... now that I re-read it, though :)
Timofey Votyakov
@tvotyakov
Feb 20 2016 05:29
@hernanmanzitti you can read this https://api.jquery.com/nth-child-selector/ if you want know more about :nth-selector

@bitgrower

"You must target the children of element with the target class"

Yes. This sentence a little ambiguous. Thus my advice may be not 100% right :) But it should be close enough

bitgrower
@bitgrower
Feb 20 2016 05:32
yup! Agreed ...

found the challenge ...

Here's how you would give the third element in each well the bounce class:

$(".target:nth-child(3)").addClass("animated bounce");

so im working on the inequality operator section of JS and the Examples says

1 != 2 // true
1 != "1" // false
1 != '1' // false
1 != true // false
0 != false // false

but when i type in the console

// Setup
function myTest(val) {
if (val != "99") { // Change this line
return "Not Equal";
}
return "Equal";
}

// Change this value to test
myTest(99); //it says its Equal. comparing it to the Example its not suppose to.

so.. is the console wrong?

Add the animated class to all elements with type button.

Add the shake class to all the buttons with class .btn.

Add the btn-primary class to the button with id #target1."

@gts00k Checkout the get data using JSON from API's challenge.
Here is an url obtained for calling the open weather api:
http://api.openweathermap.org/data/2.5/weather?lat=41&lon=-81&appid=44db6a862fba0b067b1930da0d769e98
You can use the data from this json object in your project.
@Rogers187 Instead of wrapping the a tag with a button tag, you can add the 'btn btn-primary' class to the a tag itself, and remove the button tag altogether.

Hi all, Can anyone tell me if it is possible to do the challenge "return largest Numbers in Arrays" with less lines of code? - Having two loops seems to be kind of redundant, but I can't figure out how to do it with just one for loop. As far as I know, I can only sort by using "return" and that will break me out of the loop after it's done sorting. Any help would be much appreciated.
function largestOfFour(arr) {
  // You can do this!
  var newArr = [];
  for (var i=0; i<arr.length; i++) {
  arr[i].sort(function(a,b){
    return b-a;
  });
  }

  for (i=0; i<arr.length; i++) {
    newArr.push(arr[i][0]);
  }

  return newArr;
}

largestOfFour([[4, 5, 1, 3], [13, 27, 18, 26], [32, 35, 37, 39], [1000, 1001, 857, 1]]);

@ThisGuyOverHere
Feb 20 2016 11:34
@nick88p Actually the return of that sort function won't make the loop stop, but it will just end the function returning the sorted array (otherwise it would stop just after the first subarray and wouldn't order the other ones). Having cleared that up, you can easily put your "newArr.push(arr[i][0]);" right after the sorting, and delete the other loop cause it won't be necessary anymore :)
@nick88p Sorry for the broken english, I hope that my explanation is clear enough

@JohnDeegs
Hey all I'm stuck on http://www.freecodecamp.com/challenges/confirm-the-ending as I'm sure my logic is correct but It's not right in the code.

function end(str, target) {
  // "Never give up and good luck will find you."
  // -- Falcor
  var second = str.substring(str.length - 1);

  if(second === target){
    return true;
  }
}

end("Bastian", "n");

Created a new variable "second", and assigned it as the last character in str.
If second is equal to target, return true.
However, I only get 1/6 ticks as I think they want me to also match the last word in a string with target which is contradictory to the hints they say to use (substring) as I would need to split the string into arrays to achieve this I think. So I'm confused.
For example, end("He has to give me a new name", "name") should return true but in that case the last word in the string and the target match, whereas all the clues hint to only working with characters.

Neeraj Lad
@neeraj-lad

@akshayxarora to add an item at the end of an array , you use Array.push(item) methhod; and to remove the first element from the array use Array.shift()

@williamjohn90 fromCharCode() is a static method of String object. So you need to use String.fromCharCode(tempNum)
@leefly Your browser zoom level is 100%?
William
@williamjohn90

@maulikdarji i tried that before. i get a red dot as a result in the console...
Maulik Darji
@maulikdarji
Feb 20 2016 13:18
@williamjohn90 thats because fromCharCode() method expects number as argument, you are giving string instead.
Try converting code first and then add it to newStr
like: newStr += String.fromCharCode(tempLocalNum);

Manish Giri
@Manish-Giri
Feb 20 2016 17:33
@iamharshit for that you have ready the API documentation, everything you need is inside the JSON response that you get. All you have to do is parse the response to fetch the info. you need and display it
@iamharshit as an example, look at the array that’s the value for the key weather
"weather":[{"id":804,"main":"clouds","description":"overcast clouds","icon":"04n"}],
@iamharshit here you can get the weather conditions from the description key

Hey guys
Can anybody explain me something?
Because I'm not shure I understood it well
code is correct and works well
function destroyer(arr) {
  // Remove all the values
  for (var i=1; i<arguments.length; i++){
    for (var j=0; j<arr.length; j++){
      if (arr[j]==arguments[i]){
        arr.splice(j,1);
        //j--;

      }
    }

  }
  return arr;
}

destroyer([1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3], 2, 3);

@iamharshit you don’t need to pass anything. That myDog object was just an example, in fact, if you look closely - the JSON reponse you get from the API is also quite similar to the structure of myDog
