you currently have it added to the style portion of your sheet. i believe it is asking you to attribute a class to your text

    for(loop inner array){ //add loop conditions

@swissricola when you switch on something, val in this case - for every case x:, x takes on the current value of val

@swissricola so if you have

switch(val) {
case 1: console.log(1); break;
case 2: console.log(2); break;
}

when val is 1, the first console.log prints, when val is 2, the second one prints

Feb 22 2016 05:33
@devonwilson1 can you tell me the name of the challenge or paste a link to it
from first glance i'm guessing it's this div .gray-background. i think they want you to give your div the class gray-background, so, in your CSS, you would just select .gray-background

@devonwilson1 yeah what i said above is correct. i found the challenge and the instructions are:

Create a class called gray-background with the background-color of gray. Assign this class to your div element.

devonwilson1
@devonwilson1
Feb 22 2016 05:37
give a background color to a div element
so i must have missed something early on cause i have had similar problem before
how do i "find" css
if you look in my good in the style section i just wrote the gray background what is wrong with that
DJ
@qualitymanifest
Feb 22 2016 05:40

@devonwilson1 to select a class in CSS you do

.someClass {
  do: something here;
}

then to apply that class in your HTML you do

<element class="someClass"></element>

@devonwilson1 in your CSS you have

element.someClass

which is incorrect, and you don't have that class anywhere in your HTML

these are just examples
devonwilson1
@devonwilson1

div .gray-background is wrong. get rid of the word div in front of it. you need to just select the class .gray-background. you then need to give your div the class gray-background, down in your HTML.

@Laisvis you need to read the instructions fully, instead of copying the example. they want the class to be smaller-image. in your CSS, you need to put a . before the class name. then, you need to apply that class to your img element down in your HTML

@amaiti504 I have defined it below - like this - apiOpenWeatherUrl = baseOpenWeatherUrl + "?lat=" + position.coords.latitude + "&lon=" + position.coords.longitude + "&APPID=" + apiKey;
you mean i should use jsonp in place of json?? @amaiti504 and what is CORS??

It's an error what happens when u do cross site API call. U need to append callback_URL to ur API call. Just Google API calling CORS soln.

@silentarrowz one thing
U r calling the API using the URL variable that is yet not defined
Anindya Maiti
@amaiti504
Feb 22 2016 08:28
@silentarrowz define the URL before using getJSON. Use jsonp to call the API. For using jsonp u need to append a string wid ur URL. Most probably it's "?callback_URL=". Better Google check it.

JS is a scriptting language, JQuery is a JS library so start with JS
Blauelf

Feb 22 2016 13:19
That's a good question, I always wondered why they put jQuery before JS. I would go JS first, then jQuery (as it requires both JS and HTML knowledge, even though the jQuery introduction is very low-level in terms of JS)

@marselcode engineType is a property of myCar with the value of a string , in this case "diesel". So you need nickname as a property and set it to a string value of your choice.

Minimax means you choose the best move for yourself, while assuming the opponent will choose the best move for themselves (usually done recursively)
For tic-tac-toe, one can also work with lookup tables.
Alexander Køpke
@alexanderkopke
Feb 22 2016 14:15
I guess I am hard coding it then. I just made an object representing the different squares and then set it to g or p as the players make their marks.

A non-perfect player would score a win if they can, prevent one if the opponent could score one (works to some extent), else do some hard-coded or random move. Anything else needs prediction of the future.

@luisfmelo Not sure how to describe it, I've done minimax as a kid, 20 years ago :)
The other things could be done by pattern-matching in strings (if storing the field as a string), similar if you are storing the field in a linear array
Luís Melo
@luisfmelo
Feb 22 2016 14:22
@alexanderkopke i think the best aproach (and kind of tricky) is recursivly
@Blauelf how can i implement trees in JS?
Alexander Køpke

well, at least I put the ifs in functions to be called. The core game isn't that big.
Blauelf
@Blauelf
Feb 22 2016 14:24
@luisfmelo Trees? I usually used recursion, not storing the actual tree (memory was expensive at that time). So I walked the tree and stored only the information currently needed (stack limits recursion depth).

@luisfmelo You give your recursive function the current game state, and some idea who is next. Then, for each possible move, you determine if this wins the game (best outcome), else which result the recursive function for that changed state will return (with then the other player's turn). Find the move that has the best outcome, and return that with the outcome itself (for example as an array or object). Win or loose will end recursion, with Tic-Tac-Toe you'll need no other condition.
Luís Melo

@Blauelf so, i have to explore ALL the possibilities each time i have to make a move?
Blauelf
@Blauelf
Feb 22 2016 14:34
That's one way. Another is to pre-build that tree and walk it down. For tic-tac-toe, both is not that expensive.
A tree in JS could be represented by objects ("nodes"), with each object having some properties like "next move" or an array "If you make the specified move and opponent makes that move, go to this node".

I am trying to write a quiz application
where the question and answers are stored in objects in one array
like this
how do i set the value of a radio button in my form
$(".page").append("<div><div><input type = \'radio\' name = \'foo\' value = \'getOnlyChoices(a)[0]\'>"+ getOnlyChoices(a)0 + "</input></div>"
thats the line I want to fix
the value field is usually a string
but I want it to not be a string so that it can update dynamically depending on the question

Kevin Han

Feb 22 2016 16:20
I don't think that's working
SirSandmann
@SirSandmann
Feb 22 2016 16:22
value =\"" + getOnlyChoices(a)[1] +\""

i would really recommend you to do it next time somehow like this if you do it with jquery

jQuery('<div/>', {
    id: 'foo',
    href: 'http://google.com',
    title: 'Become a Googler',
    rel: 'external',
    text: 'Go to Google!'

Way cleaner

run a simple loop and you save many lines of code and less complexity

Hi everybody. I've been doing FCC for 2 weeks and I'm working on my portfolio now. I've tried 2 different tutorials on how to create my navbar and each time it does not work...I'm beginning to think codepen is giving me a problem. It just look like an unnumbered list with underlined links- nothing like the navigation bars that the tutorials create. Here is my code: <title>Brenda Brewer's Coding Portfolio</title>

<header>

<div class="navbar navbar-fixed-top">

@marselcode to reverse hello, which is str in this case, split the string into an array of characters using .split(), then use .reverse() on this array (because .reverse() is an Array method), and finally use .join() on the reversed array to get the reversed string

I need some help
on "Target the Parent of an Element Using jQuery"
it asks me to give the parent of the "#target1" element a bg color of red
$("#target1").parent().css("background-color","red");
That was my code
But it won't let me pass although there are no errors or so what

@Kevinov this should be the existing code, to which you add yours
<script>
  $(document).ready(function() {
    $("#target1").css("color", "red");
    $("#target1").prop("disabled", true);
    $("#target4").remove();
    $("#target2").appendTo("#right-well");
    $("#target5").clone().appendTo("#left-well");

  });
</script>

<!-- Only change code above this line. -->

    <h3 class="text-primary text-center">jQuery Playground</h3>
    <div class="row">
      <div class="col-xs-6">
        <h4>#left-well</h4>
        <div class="well" id="left-well">
          <button class="btn btn-default target" id="target1">#target1</button>
          <button class="btn btn-default target" id="target2">#target2</button>
          <button class="btn btn-default target" id="target3">#target3</button>
        </div>
