@m43 Nope, no luck. what is this syntax $('#quoteHolder>div')? >? Ajax? What does it mean?
it targets all div elements inside the element with id quoteholder
forget that, do this
Rita Alfonso
@alfonsotech
Mar 10 2016 00:04
hahahahaha got it!
:)
Rita Alfonso
@alfonsotech
Mar 10 2016 00:05
well, I got the button inside, but the text isn't rendering now...
This is the simpler version..
<div class="well well-sm">
<div  id="quoteHolder"></div>
     <div class="text-center">
      <button class="btn btn-default btn-lg" id="tweetIt"><i class="fa fa-twitter"> Share Over Twitter</i>
      </button>
     </div>
 </div>
but i will take a look at that new code of yours
did you save your pen, i do not see any changes
Rita Alfonso
@alfonsotech
Mar 10 2016 00:07
@m43 I forked it to work on it
you need to add an empty div element
before the button
so jQuery can target it
with $('#quoteHolder>div')

But to make life simpler you can do this change to the original
without changing js

This is the simpler version..

<div class="well well-sm">
<div  id="quoteHolder"></div>
     <div class="text-center">
      <button class="btn btn-default btn-lg" id="tweetIt"><i class="fa fa-twitter"> Share Over Twitter</i>
      </button>
     </div>
 </div>

@alfonsotech Is the quote generator your idea or a part of FCC challenge
Rita Alfonso
@alfonsotech
Mar 10 2016 00:14
@m43 It's an FCC challenge. I'm just going back now to redo my challenges before asking for certificate.
I think I made the changes but it's not working for me. http://codepen.io/alfonsotech/pen/wGGNje?editors=1010
I'm supposed to be working on my portfolio website, but got caught up with this one instead.
just delete the ">div" part now
it will work then
in js

Think of HTML as your nouns, so all buttons will be html. CSS is your adjectives, so they will add style to your html elements. Javascript is your verbs...it adds action and interactivity to your HTML/CSS.

Jared Pranke

Mar 10 2016 01:11
As a side note, you don't need to rely on the default sizes of <h1> to <h6> to determine your content's font size. These can typically be styled in a cascading style sheet, between a <style></style> declaration at the top of your html document, or through an inline style.
MuhammadRe
@MuhammadRe
Mar 10 2016 01:11
("shake")

and then somwhere in the css this:

@keyframes expando {
  0% {
    height: 100px;
  }
  100% {
    height: 400px;
  }
}

thats the part i dont really understand lel

Can anyone critique this code I did for “Title Case a Sentence”? I feel like there’s a more efficient way to do this and I used too many variables
function titleCase(str) {

  var strArr = str.toLowerCase().split(" ");
  var newStr = [];
  var answer;

  for (var i = 0; i < strArr.length; i++) {
    var firstLetters = [];
    var slicedSentence = [];
    firstLetters = strArr[i].charAt(0).toUpperCase();
    slicedSentence = strArr[i].slice(1);
    newStr.push(firstLetters.concat(slicedSentence));
    answer = newStr.join(" ");
  }
  return answer;
}

titleCase("I'm a little tea Pot");

MuhammadRe
@MuhammadRe
Mar 10 2016 01:23
yea i think so
but i want to be sure

1) create a file named defaultzoom.css (or any name you like, just make sure it has a css extension.)

2) copy and paste in the following:

body {
zoom: 130%;
}

change 130 to whatever number suits you. >100 means zoom in, <100 means zoom out. Don't forget the % percent sign!

3) in safari, go to Preferences > Advanced. Under style sheet, select Other... and point to the file you created.

4) you may need to restart safari for the change to take effect.

the .blue-text represents a class
instead of putting the style attributes inline with the h2 tag you an assign the h2 tag a class

Hello all. I seem to be having a problem with my Tribute page. I have managed to insert the title and image along with attaching a link to an external website. The problem that I am having when I enter text below the image, the text is picking up on the link to the webpage. I inserted the closure marks I believe in the right places, but that is not working. What am I doing wrong???

Challenge:
Use the jQuery addClass() function to give the classes animated and bounce to your button elements.

Only use jQuery to add these classes to the element.
~~~~~~
The previous challenge had me create the first script element. I placed a second script element underneath it. Am I missing a closing?
<script>
$(document).ready(function() {
});
</script>
<script>
$("button").addClass("animated bounce");
</script>
Hey, can anyone help me out with the Random Quote Machine project?
I'm using this code:
      $(".quote-box").append(a[0].content + "<p>— " + a[0].title + "</p>")
    });
  });
});
I mean
$(document).ready(function(){
  $("button").on("click", function(){
    $.getJSON("http://quotesondesign.com/wp-json/posts?filter[orderby]=rand&filter[posts_per_page]=1&_jsonp=mycallback", function(a) {
      $(".quote-box").append(a[0].content + "<p>— " + a[0].title + "</p>")
    });
  });
});
But then I get this error
XMLHttpRequest cannot load http://quotesondesign.com/wp-json/posts?filter[orderby]=rand&filter[posts_per_page]=1. No 'Access-Control-Allow-Origin' header is present on the requested resource.
Explanation:
Basically while the second argument is not true, you will have to remove the first element from the left of the array that was passed as the first argument.
How to add a margin with bootstrap?
nevermind, I think I found the classes for it
Mufaddal B
@invinciblemuffi
Mar 10 2016 06:12
@ScriptGeek: I don't think bootstrap has any specific classes for adding margins, but yes it will have a class call ed push or a similar name, which actually pushes your element in the grid based on how much you want to push ex: push-3 will push your current element by 3 columns and so on
I am working on Drop It Algorithm:
function drop(arr, func) {
  // Drop them elements.
  var arr1 = [];
  for(var i=0; i<arr.length; i++) {
    if(func(arr[0])) {
      break;
    } else {
      arr.shift();
    }
  }
  return arr;
}
drop([1, 2, 3, 4], function(n) {return n > 5; });
It does pass all test cases except the one I have written above. Let me know what is the logical error here.
Your #target1 element should have the classes animated‚ shake and btn-primary.
Only use jQuery to add these classes to the element.
hey everyone, I'm just about finished with the Weather App Zipline. There has been one thing that I've put off dealing with because I'm frankly at a loss of what to do about it. So, I'm querying the openweathermap.org API using the latitude and longitude from the DOM. I'm then getting the city name from the JSON response. Now, I'm in a Chicago zip code, but the city name being returned is Birchwood...? If I drop a pen on google maps on my current location, the lat and lon coords match those I'm getting from the DOM. But, there is no Birchwood nearby of any significance. Does anyone have some light for me???
The i element was originally used to make other elements italic, but is now commonly used for icons. You add the Font Awesome classes to the i element to turn it into an icon, for example:
<i class="fa fa-info-circle"></i>
Use Font Awesome to add a thumbs-up icon to your like button by giving it an i element with the classes fa and fa-thumbs-up.
How do i add the i element to this button?
<button class="btn btn-block btn-primary">Like</button>
Here's my code:
Hey guys!
Need a little help figuring something out
In "Target a Specific Child of an Element Using jQuery"
Given the code:
<div class="container-fluid">
<h3 class="text-primary text-center">jQuery Playground</h3>
<div class="row">
<div class="col-xs-6">
<h4>#left-well</h4>
<div class="well" id="left-well">
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target1">#target1</button>
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target2">#target2</button>
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target3">#target3</button>
</div>
</div>
<div class="col-xs-6">
<h4>#right-well</h4>
<div class="well" id="right-well">
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target4">#target4</button>
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target5">#target5</button>
<button class="btn btn-default target" id="target6">#target6</button>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
and the jQuery
$(".target:nth-child(2)").addClass("animated bounce");
How does the browser know to bounce the 2 child of only the well classes?
David Young
@dayvidwhy
Mar 10 2016 07:53
:nth-child(2) is interpretted by the jQuery javascript you’ve included
Bruno Miguel Pereira
@bmpereira
Mar 10 2016 07:54
Let me rephrase: How are we targeting the "well" classes specifically?
in that query
David Young
@dayvidwhy
Mar 10 2016 07:54
oh
its just misleading imo
what your trying to do is select the .target class
so all those buttons
then your picking those children in each container
but thats just how it is
so in each well container you have a number of elements with the class target, and (2) picks the third in each
Bruno Miguel Pereira
@bmpereira
Mar 10 2016 07:56
OH! Got it!
Yeah, buttons all have the target class
so all the buttons have the "target" class and we are targeting the second child in each element of that class
Is that it?
David Young
@dayvidwhy
Mar 10 2016 07:58
in each parent container
https://api.jquery.com/nth-child-selector/ is a good example, notice how in one line we’ve added “2nd” to two elements
(if your generally confused by a jquery thing the api is worth reading)
@chemok78 I had the same problem at this point. Someone pointed out to me that the call to the navigator is asychronous, meaning that it the rest of your code will NOT wait for it, and will continue on before its returned your position. The key is in neatly nested functions. If you give me a moment I can work out the basic structure if you'd like.
unless your webpage is from an https origin
its unfortunate that, codepen doesn't have https yet :worried:
@chemok78 here is a breakdown of the structure that got me through it.
//*************Set the DOM with JSON data****called by .getWeather()***********
  function displayWeatherData(data) {
    //do something  with the JSON data passed in from the API callback.
  }
// ******************Weather API call*****called by .success()****************
  function getWeather(lat, lon) {
    //use the lat and lon passed from the success() method to make make an API query. I know you used ajax.  I found JSON to be much simpler
    $.getJSON(API_URL, function(data) {
      displayWeatherData(data);
    });
  }
//   ************** navigator callback *************
  function success(position) {           //position represents the data from the navigator
    //do something to get the lat lon from the position here
    //the lat and lon have no scope beyond this function so they must be handled  and used now
    getWeather(lat, lon);
  }
 //******************* get location ****************
  if (navigator.geolocation) {
      navigator.geolocation.getCurrentPosition(success);  //---success() named callback function
  } else {
    city.text("Geolocation is not available");
  }
How did you add the last line of the "Build a Tribute Page" where the example shows "Written and coded by Quincy Larson"? I used jQuery to get my info in there, but is there a way to do it with HTML? I'm thinking it's not possible using HTML.
@rawatdeepesh to get feedback from the website you need to tell it you want something to happen on a click
@rawatdeepesh you sort of want to bind clicks to dynamically produced images yeah?
Michael Nazari
Mar 10 2016 11:34
@deedubwhy I'm trying to use the API challenges as a template but I'm unsure how to edit it for my needs
```js
$.getJSON("/json/cats.json", function(json) {});
Idk where to put the API link
David Young
@dayvidwhy
Mar 10 2016 11:35
so when you execute that line $.getJSON on some url, that function will fire when the request has come back
its the first argument
see https://api.jquery.com/jquery.getjson/, where you currently have json/cats.json
Ankit Panwar
@coderNoob
Mar 10 2016 11:36
@mikenaza You need to put the API url like

?callback=", function(data){
  //do something
});

@rawatdeepesh you could set class to the image on click and then check which image has the class and zoom that?
Michael Nazari

okay
//runs the code only when the page is loaded

   $.getJSON("http://quotesondesign.com/api/3.0/api-3.0.json?callback=", function(data) {

@rawatdeepesh if you know how many images why not just use ids

like
```
<div id=“img1”><img /> </div>
and just use javascript to change the img tag
then you can just set your zoom func on the img1 div
@OMahonyD You can try another approach where you look for relevant substrings to get the index of the details. Get them using 'for' loops and then show them on the page.
I figured out my issue on my own in case anyone was scratching their heads - I was setting the html for the whole h3 class earlier in the code, so the span text was being overridden and properly returning empty. :smile:
I'm doing "Create a Form Element" and I'm getting an error " Nest your text field in a form element. " . What's the form element? I tried different solutions but don't work
@joaofnds Well, sputnik's actual semi-major axis in orbit was 6,955.2 km, but it's not that important to the function that the numbers are realistic
