Does anyone know how to italicize text without altering the text using jQuery
Tyler Moeller
@TylerMoeller
Mar 18 2016 00:12
@dsutton1080 it should be: $(#elementID).css('font-style', 'italic'); Or create a class called italic and do $(#elementID).addClass('italic')

Mar 18 2016 01:04
@meankraken It's because it has multiple sub arrays - you have to 'flatten' it into a single array first.
For example, in this array: [2[3,2]], the first element is 2 and the second element is [3,2]. When it's flattened as [2,3,2], you can go through each element individually.

@kalmont3 it looks alright so far. I would just define some variables and assign their values in your JSON call, then reference them to update your HTML

Matt Leonard

@Benalron Looks like you need a border-style property in your class. Something like solid dotted dashed

Any anyone help me understand how to call an API properly?
I'm attempting to use this API: https://theysaidso.com/api/
I don't understand how to request/display data from it
Jeff
@meankraken
Mar 18 2016 02:59
@SeanSaibot Important to understand json objects and the documentation for that specific api before you make the call, but in general you can use:
.ajax({
url: "url that you're calling",
dataType:"json", <-- depends what kind of data the call returns
success: function(obj) {
//stuff here executes if the json call goes through, you can grab the information from obj
}

});

When I do that, it highlights everything red and doesn't work.

we can do if else statements like that in js

if 5 greater than 1, true is ‘true’
is there any particular line? like $.getJSON is just jQueries json retriever Radin Rubis @rdrubis Mar 18 2016 05:47 That last line will simply truncate a long quote. Your log statement is firing simultaneously with the ajax statement. try using a promise or .done() or success fn() as suggested by @qualitymanifest . That way, the log statement will fire only after the ajax has completed fetching data. But only true and false are primitive boolean values. You can create a new boolean object by using new Boolean() or convert an existing entity to boolean by passing through the Boolean() function. Although the result will be either true or false, but it wont be primitive. Null, undefined, etc. also return false values but are not primitive boolean values. To check whether a value is primitive boolean, pass it through the Boolean() function and compare it with itself. In this case, only the values true or false will pass. So, false === Boolean(false) will return true but null === Boolean(null) will return false. Hope you get it. Try read the page linked in the question. From GitHub guides: You control the display of the document; formatting words as bold or italic, adding images, and creating lists are just a few of the things we can do with Markdown. Mostly, Markdown is just regular text with a few non-alphabetic characters thrown in, like # or *. You can use Markdown most places around GitHub: • Gist • Comments in Issues and Pull Requests • Files with the .md or .markdown extension Markdown files have the extension .md and you'll see that a vast number of GitHub repositories have README.md files. A great example is that if you want to write a Wiki file for this repository, it'll need to be a .md file. What you're reading right now is a markdown file called writing-a-markdown-file-using-atom.md. Markdown files are easy to write, and you can find a markdown cheat sheet here. Only use jQuery to add these classes to the element.

like this
thanks
@wearenotgroot so what do i have on the .btn
greg
@wearenotgroot
Mar 18 2016 15:34
@Mohyour ---------->\$(".btn").addClass("shake");
@Mohyour "animated" is one class, so does "shake" as well as "btn-primary". So it will fullfill the requirement for "Only add one class with each of your three selectors."

I'm a little confused with the container-fluid class. I'm starting the tribute page now. Do I want all of the code in a nested in <div class="container-fluid"></div>?
