and how do I make the images to be side by side?
Paulina Zawadzka
@zavi007
Mar 19 2016 00:02
what do you mean? they are side by side now no?
the easiest way to do it is if you use bootstrap css and then you could nest your images+a+h3 inside div class="col-sm-4" and they would align nicely

Your image should have a src attribute that points to the kitten image.

put an unique id for each bio div, you can use the username like bio-username
eg. <div id="bio-freecodecamp" class="user-bio"> @Key-Banger

Paulina Zawadzka
@zavi007
Mar 19 2016 00:51
@castrol2031xter in your style you have to give all your p font-size: 16px;

@castrol2031xter in your browser press crtl+'plus' or crtl+'minus' to control the zoom.
Paulina Zawadzka

Mar 19 2016 01:08
@zavi007 the challenge is that I should give my CSS style element color, and font size. I have done that. But the constraint is that I shld make my browser and text zoom 100% to pass the challenge
Paulina Zawadzka
@zavi007
Mar 19 2016 01:11
have you ever zoomed in your browser or zoomed out to make the text bigger/smaller? it is just so their system reads it right because if you zoom in your browser the text size automatically goes larger

Paulina Zawadzka
@zavi007
Mar 19 2016 01:22
@castrol2031xter you have to put font-size for p elements
so p {font-size: 16px}
and leave like that: .red-test {
color: red;
}
*.red-text

without using a class
Harsh Khandelwal
@harsh2602
Mar 19 2016 02:06
@joaovvr use an id or a class...else CSS wont be able to distinguish between different p tags...Or you can explicitly declare style attribute in the p tag itself
Alister Najib Mada
@alistermada

@oloughlinp What do you mean? Both use the colon. They are structurally very similar with very big differences in specificity.
oloughlinp
@oloughlinp
Mar 19 2016 02:29
Something like
in the style element you use "text-align: center" with a colon
while in and html attribute(?) you use ='s "<p border-style="solid">"
or <p text-align="center:>
George Garinis
@taz1821

@oloughlinp its <style>'s structure that is diferent than inline style structure
B. Garber
@TheBGar
Mar 19 2016 02:33
@oloughlinp just difference in syntax, like the differences in languages
oloughlinp
@oloughlinp
Mar 19 2016 02:33
Is there a reason for it? Or it just CSS has one syntax and HTML has a different syntax?
George Garinis
@taz1821
Mar 19 2016 02:35
@oloughlinp for example try this <p id="me" data="you" style="background:black; color:red;">test</p>
Joseph Padgett
@Jspadgett82
Mar 19 2016 02:35
@oloughlinp style in itself is one syntax, yeah, pretty much.

Mar 19 2016 02:40
@oloughlinp I’d have to look it up to back up my statement here, but basically everything in CSS files are style usages, and putting it directly into html uses the same syntax, but you have to give the html a way to read that style function since it’s different syntax. That’s what I recognize it as, personally, but I am not far into my own self teaching so there might be better ways heh
To explain it, that is
Dustin
@Key-Banger
Mar 19 2016 02:50
@oloughlinp It is different. If you would like to dig deep into CSS and specificity here is a good article. Other then syntax specificity is the big difference between inline and external style.

Nest both your form's text input and submit button within a div with the class row. Nest your form's text input within a div with the class of col-xs-7. Nest your form's submit button in a div with the class col-xs-5.

function getQuote() {

Imo, if you understand the concept of the bootstrap and have down the basics of columns, rows, and the grid system in general. Just go over to the bootstrap website and read there docs. There really easy to understand and come complete with code examples.
Just move on to the next and keep learning :D

Could someone help me debug my recursive implementation? I am getting correct output, but it does not get accepted. I'm suspecting it has something to do with the return statement. This is the Steamroller algorithm. Here is the code:
var newArr = [];
function steamroller(arr) {
  for (var i = 0; i < arr.length; i++) {
    if (!Array.isArray(arr[i])) {
      newArr.push(arr[i]);
    } else {
      steamroller(arr[i]);
    }
  }

  return newArr;
}

steamroller([1, [2], [3, [[4]]]]);

I've tried adjusting both the margin and the padding of this image. I'm trying to move it down so it's not under my navbar. Here is the css / Navagation Bar /
.navbar {
height: 20px;
}

name {

font-family: Palatino Linotype;
font-size: 35px;
}

buttons {

font-family: Palatino Linotype;
}

/ Home Page /
.home {
padding-top: 80px;
background-image: url("http://www.neworleansphotos.com/wp-content/gallery/new-orleans/sharris_purpleshotgundouble.jpg");

@Shirmardi You have to use .text() to get the value from the html same way you’re using it to display a value.
@Shirmardi So if ("#temp" != "F”) wont work. You’ve to use if ($(‘#temp’).text() != "F”)
Age

@Shirmardi Ok, first of all, you haven’t included jQuery in your project, so do that in the project settings. Then, you have some major gaps in your knowledge jQuery fundamentals. Sort those out. Finally, here’s your code, refined and working :-
$(document).ready(function() {

  $("#convert").click(function() {
    var temperature = $("#number").text();
    if ($("#temp").text() != "F") {
      $("#temp").text("F");
      $("#number").text(temperature * 1.8 + 32);
    } else {
      $("#temp").text("C");
      $("#number").text(temperature - 32 * 0.5555555555555556);
    };
  });
});

@santakmishra I still don't quite understand when I need to use $ and when I can leave it out. if ($(‘#temp’).text() != "F”) vs if ((‘#temp’).text() != "F”) is there an easy way to know?

@Faredhattab By change, do you mean you want to remove it? If so, try adding an ID to the anchor <a id=“brandName”>…</a> and define a CSS rule for it:-

#brandName:hover {
  color: #fff;
}

Due to CSS Specificity, the ID takes higher precedence here.

@Shirmardi I think the code example of santakmishra does not work. You are missing a crucial parenthesis in the calculation of F to C. Also, if you need to access a selected DOM item more than once, you should save it in a variable. And there is a shorthand for document.ready. And for readability I would suggest evaluating a variable for true in stead of false ( so temp.text() === 'C' in stead of temp.text() != 'F' ). See codepen for working example: http://codepen.io/anon/pen/jqBPER?editors=1010

@Shirmardi Yeah, just so you know that is an option. You might see it in other code, so now you now what it means. But document.ready is more descriptive, so for beginners, that is easier to understand.

@mjqblade you need to use an HTML tag that italicizes
anthonygallina1

@omnisite I can do it in PHP actually it is way easier
Dylan

@mjqblade it's an <em> tag I believe
mjqblade
@mjqblade
Mar 19 2016 14:49
what exactly is a html tag
Dylan
@dhcodes
Mar 19 2016 14:49
a tag is anything between <>
so <p> or <body> or <li>
mjqblade
@mjqblade
Mar 19 2016 14:49
can u give me an example plz
Dylan
@dhcodes
Mar 19 2016 14:49

mjqblade
@mjqblade
Mar 19 2016 14:50
oh
Dylan
@dhcodes
Mar 19 2016 14:50
so to bold text in HTML you could do <strong>your text</strong>
to do italics, you would use <em> instead of <strong>

you can’t really pitch the “10 year old” excuse every time, try and be patient and read through the instructions first, look for answers in sites like w3schools, mdn documentation, stack overflow, and even if it doesn’t help - then ask here

@mjqblade I respect that, but try to figure stuff out on your own before asking here. Then when you do ask, be patient for people to respond. We're all learning too

@mjqblade You should really read some of the stuff from the beginning again, because some of your questions are about really basic stuff, which you really need to know first, before going further
