@StasiekK - it’s funny you asked because a pop-up just appeared asking me to pay for Sublime. But I hit the “X” and I’m still able to use it. It’s an untimated evaluation period
I will probably commit to the software once I am more comfortable with it.
For now, I’m still learning how to use it

@StasiekK I don’t know if there’s a difference. You get the “pay for sublime” thing from time to time if you don’t want to pay, but they never keep you from using it. Haven’t for me so far. Though I likely will actually buy it once I get into a position to do so here in the next couple weeks, just cause I use it all the time and like it heh

wrong format, stand by
function titleCase(str) {
  var lowerStr = str.toLowerCase();
  lowerStr = lowerStr.split(" ");
  for (var i = 0; i < lowerStr.length; i++) {
    // capitalize first letter of each word in array
    lowerStr[i].charAt(0).toUpperCase();
  }
  var newStr = lowerStr.join(" ");
  return newStr;
}
titleCase("I'm a little tea pot”);
Nothing gets capitalized
should I be doing this just with .replace() and reggae?

@bereco Yeah, just put three of those in between a <div class = “row”></div> if it’s making three buttons in a row as your objective.

@mattr47 You are close. The problem with your code is this line lowerStr[i].charAt(0).toUpperCase(); - It's correctly capitalizing the first letter of each word, but it isn't setting that value back into lowerStr. You shouldn't need to use regex, but you might want to check out the .replace() method.

@JelaniThompson take a look at this url: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/api.php?action=query&titles=Main%20Page&prop=revisions&rvprop=content&format=json after api.php? notice the different commands like action=query&titles=Main%20Page so query is the action and query has a additional commands that determines what it returns. If you click on the link you can see the actual JSON object it returns. It is all determined by those commands. Read more on https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/API:Main_page Give it time. It took some days for me to wrap my head around it so it is normal to feel a little lost. Good luck!
I have spent about 20-30 minutes now trying to figure out where that grey line comes from inside the timeline

@JelaniThompson in javascript the jquery command for a get request is: $.getJSON(url, function(json){ //here you can use the json variable that is returned from the url . The JSON is just like any other object.. you can use dot notation. json.query.pages or which ever you want it to return. You can study the JSON by pasting the url into your browser or using console.log(json) and opening the console with f12 in chrome}

@murtinha Your AJAX call should be inside the Button click event, so that it is invoked everytime the button is clicked. Right now, your ajax is working only once (when the DOM is loaded) and getting the quote and storing it in the quote variable. So, the button works once. But when you click again, there is no new ajax call, so the value of quote variable doesn’t change. got it ?

Learn how to plan your future project!

Blog post written by BiancaMihai - GitHub / Twitter

An ounce of preparation is worth a pound of cure. That's true in medicine, and that's definitely true in software development.

Here's a structured 10-step workflow that will guide you through the app planning process, with the goal of saving you from writing a lot of unnecessary code.

Together, we'll plan out a simple "To-do" single-page web app. We'll also plan for an API backend for a future mobile app.

Need help with Caesars Cipher. Can't figure out how to iterate through the string to convert the letters into unicode.
function rot13(str) { // LBH QVQ VG!

  // S = 83, rot13 turns it into F which = 70 -- so minus 13
  // E = 69, rot 13 turns it into R which = 82 -- so plus 13...

  //lets figure out what the ends of our decimal unicode values are
  // A = 65
  // M = 77 -- so if the charCodeAt is > 77, then subtract 13, if <= 77 add 13...
  // Z = 90

  var originalCode = "";

  //now let's iterate through our string to get the unicode numbers for each item in the string
  for (var i=0; i<str.length;i++) {

@kmulligan, @rmensing is right about splitting it to an array, though a filter might be advanced for you at that challenge. Run a for loop and convert each to a char. code, add or subtract 13 based on what is with the alphabet char code range, and then push it back to an array, convert to a string based on char code

Hey all, I'm having problems with the Record Collection exercise (just starting out here). This is the code I used for the function to update and delete tracks. I think I must be totally barking up the wrong tree as it's not ticking any boxes.

function update(id, prop, value) {
if ((value !== "") && (prop != "tracks")) {
collectionprop = value;
return collection;
}
else if ((value !== "") && (prop == "tracks")) {
collection.push(["tracks", value]);
return collection;
}
else if (value === "") {
collection.delete([prop, value]);
return collection;
}
}
Any suggestions? The console just says "collection.push is not a function"

Hope that makes sense :)

@TeejayParker Well you know what Teejay, it may not make as much sense to every other person as it does to you.
I shared that with him and he still had questions, so obviously is not enough. Do not belittle him for it.

Yes, after it has been shared with him already and you share it again saying "This says exactly how to do it", as though he was simply disregarding the instruction when I first sent it, yes... That message can be misconstrued. And I apologize.

@ridion I see the problem. In the <style> section, a class is defined by a period in front of it.
so instead of styling all h2 elements with red text, you would need to create a class called red-text and add the style of red text to the class.
<style>
.red-text {
color: red
}
</style>
<h2 class=“red-text”>I am red</h2>
oops, forgot the semi colon after the color declaration :)

Mar 22 2016 05:05
welll I don't have anything to format the image currently. only image command is <img src=
Trying to modify that image to smaller image class
Alex Myers
@qckpckt
Mar 22 2016 05:07
@tokerlegit smaller-image is a predefined class in bootstrap. if bootstrap is added to the project, you should just need to add a class=“smaller-image” to the <img> tag and it will apply.
Josh W.
@tokerlegit
Mar 22 2016 05:08
so input <style> .larger-image { width: 100px; } to the img src line?
Alex Myers
@qckpckt
Mar 22 2016 05:08
something like this:
<img src=“img.jpg” class=“smaller-image”>
if you’re doing it that way, in the style tags add .larger-image { width:100px} and then add class=“larger-image” to the image tag in the html

Border radius given in percentages is to correlate the border radius with elements width. So if u specify the border radius as 50%, border radius will have the value equal to half of the elements width. @enigma0160

Problem Explanation:

  • You have to create a program that will handle when the register does not have

wiki no-repeats-please
CamperBot
@camperbot
Mar 22 2016 09:57

:point_right: algorithm no repeats please [wiki]

Problem Explanation:

  • This task requires us to look at each possible permutation of a string. This is best done using a recursion function. Being able to build a function which collects all permutations of a string is a common interview question, so there is no shortage of tutorials out there on how to do this, in many different code languages.
  • This task can still be daunting even after watching a tutorial. You will want to send each new use of the function 3 inputs: 1. a new string (or character array) that is being built, 2. a position in your new string that's going to be filled next, and 3. an idea of what characters (more specifically positions) from the original string have yet to be used. The pseudo code will look something like this:

    ```
    var str = ???;
    perm(current position in original string, what's been used in original string, current string build thus far){
    if(current string is finished) {
    print current string;
    }else{
    for(var i = 0; i < str.length; i++) {
    if(str[i] has not been used) {
      put str[i] into the current position;
      mark str[i] as used
      perm(current position in original string, what's been used in original string, current string build thus far)
      unmark str[i] as used because another branch in the tree for i + 1 will still likely use it;
    }
    }
    }
    }
I can do it with pop, is it possible without having the pop() function?:
myArray[0][2] = myArray.push(3);
Hey guys. I'm having some troubles stacking images. I am currently working on the portfolio challenge. I have an image that is set to class="img-responsive" so that it fits nicely in the webpage acting as a background for my header. I am trying to put an image of an arrow that acts as a page jump over the header background image. However i can't get it to fit correctly. I have it where it looks decent if the webpage is maximized but if you resize the window the arrow gets out of place. My codepen is http://codepen.io/Ruerikk/pen/RapQbL?editors=1010 Any advice is much appreciated! :D
@AlexHTML78 add only one class with each type of selector.
Please notice, that element with class .btn is also button so it has already animated class attached, and you don't have to add animated to it again.
The same is with element with id #target1 it is button with .btn class so it has two classes already added.
@anddash it's because you haven't closed the } properly here for body
body {
background-color: black;
font-family: Monospace;
color: green;
.pink-text {
color: pink;
}
@anddash css rules aren't nested, so body style is separate from .pink-text
.pink-text {
Target the same element with multiple jQuery Selectors
Now you know three ways of targeting elements: by type: $("button"), by class: $(".btn"), and by id $("#target1").
Although it is possible to add multiple classes in a single .addClass() call, let's add them to the same element in three different ways.
Using each of the above jQuery selectors and the addClass() function:
Add the animated class to all elements with type button.
Add the shake class to all the buttons with class .btn.
Add the btn-primary class to the button with id #target1.
<script>
$(document).ready(function() {
$("button").addClass("animated");
$(".btn").addClass("shake");
$("#target1").addClass("animated shake btn-primary");
});
</script>
Anyone that can help me with the Falsy Bouncer challenge? No matter what I try, I can't get it working.
function bouncer(arr) {
  function filterFalsies(check) {
    switch (check) {
      case false:
        return false;
      case null:
        return false;
      case 0:
        return false;
      case "":
        return false;
      case undefined:
        return false;
      case NaN:
        return false;
      default:
        return true;
    }
  }
  checkedArray = arr.filter(filterFalsies);
  return checkedArray;
}
bouncer([7, "ate", "", false, 9]);
It completes 2 out of 4 checks. It won't return an empty array when all values in the array are "falsies", and for some reason it won't return and array [1, 2] when bouncer([1, null, NaN, 2, undefined]) is put in
bouncer([7, "ate", "", false, 9]) should return [7, "ate", 9].
And it does
bouncer(["a", "b", "c"]) should return ["a", "b", "c"].
And it does
