anyone?
Maciej Bembenista
@macbem
Mar 24 2016 00:16
@swimrr you can't do something.deepsomething.[deep]
because you can only use one (bracket notation or dot notation) at a time
dot notation says 'get something that's called exactly 'textafterdot'
bracket notation says 'get something has a name that's the same as value of textinbrackets variable
when it's mixed, it'd be
'get something that's called exactly '[textinbrackets]' '
and your variable names can't contain [ ]
there's your answer :)

help Profile Lookup
CamperBot
@camperbot
Mar 24 2016 00:33

:point_right: checkpoint profile lookup [wiki]

Checkpoint: Profile Lookup

Instructions

We have an array of objects representing different people in our contacts lists.

A lookUp function that takes firstName and a property (prop) as arguments has been pre-written for you.

The function should check if firstName is an actual contact's firstName and the given property (prop) is a property of that contact.

If both are true, then return the "value" of that property.

If firstName does not correspond to any contacts then return "No such contact"

If prop does not correspond to any valid properties then return "No such property"

Remember to use Read-Search-Ask if you get stuck. Try to pair program. Write your own code.

:pencil: read more about checkpoint profile lookup on the FCC Wiki

Mar 24 2016 01:12
sweet, cause at this point, I'm not sure how to get it to fit on a smaller monitor and a 1920x1080 at the same time
that line did something earlier, before I had some background images
i reused my code
three lines of css + code for color so you can see how it works
no bootstrap or anything - pure css

I am working on this "lesson": Storing Values with the Equal Operator. It says: Assign the value 7 to variable a. Assign the contents of a to variable b.
So I type in "a = 7","b = 7", and "a = b" (no quotes lol) and it keeps telling me a should be assigned to b. I don't understand it
Sean
@ofperfection
Mar 24 2016 02:30
@TheBGar it was adding one less number than it should have

kinda getting there
Catherine Kelley

I am so confused
Sean
@ofperfection
Mar 24 2016 02:34
@xaublae I see the problem
You need to set them up separately beneath the example code

// Setup

you can change the values

Hey guys, I'm having trouble with the palindrome js challenge. So far, this is the code that I came up with, but no matter what the input is, everything just comes out "true"

function palindrome(str) {

  var modifiedStr = str.toLowerCase().replace(/[^a-z0-9]/gmi , "").split('');

  var reversedStr = modifiedStr.reverse();

      if (modifiedStr === reversedStr)

           {

                 return true;

                    }

  return false;

}

palindrome("almostomla");

@zcnrex the tutorial is kind of buggy.
I don't remember if it's specifically a problem with doing it on c9.
The fake account you make isn't actually fake.
and eventually it forgets that you're logged into npmjs
and you have to run adduser again
but not within your test environment
you have to do it in your root workspace
Well, anywhere outside the directory you made for the tutorial.
Rex

@sriducati Returning no such contact should be after the contact loop block. obj[key]===undefined does not test for property key existence (existing property can have value undefined). Use .hasOwnProperty().
@sriducati Easiest way is to make two nested if clauses. First checks the first name and the second the existence of property key prop.

most of the times they are broken...try to use cdn for stylesheets as they are better and work flawlessly....

for(var i=0;i<arrayOfStrings.length;i++){
var placeHolder = arrayOfStrings[i];
var upLetter= placeHolder.chartAt(0).toUpperCase();

   var upLetter= placeHolder.chartAt(0).toUpperCase();
   placeHolder= placeHolder.slice(1,placeHolder.length).toLowerCase();
   arrayOfStrings[i] = upLetter.concat(placeHolder);
 }
  str = arrayOfStrings.join(' ');
  return str;
}

titleCase("I'm a little tea pot");
fyi @Phenoix8 you can format your text like that in the future
just type ``` and hit enter, paste your code in the middle
@Phenoix8 one thing you might want to do, at least the way I solved this problem, was make everything lowercase before the for loop
Also chartAt is not a function. You should have an error for that.

I have four main area pages to my site, and I have a custom icon for each, and each icon features a similar style (as they should in an icon set) but the color i use for the content of each area is different. For example, one icon contains a red hued image, another orange, another purple, etc.. my question. what is a nice technique to highlight which page is the active one, if they all feature different colors, do any of you have any design ideas?

@CodaGirl You've nested the p selector inside the .red-text selector
  .red-text {
    color: red;
  }

  p {font-size: 16px;
    }

</style>

<h2 class="red-text">CatPhotoApp</h2>

<p> Purr jump eat the grass rip the couch scratched sunbathe, shed everywhere rip the couch sleep in the sink fluffy fur catnip scratched.</p>
