Hi I am trying to create a dice game in Java ,a nd I am getting a null pointer exception . Its probably because my rolledNo object references to null. How can I fix the problem . This is my incomplete game class and dice class.

@StasiekK Ok this is awkward. It was working all the time but as I only like an inch of scrollbar due the lack of material on my page, it didn't really give an effect. I added 1000px to each of my elements to test it and it works. Thanks

Hi! I've been getting around just fine except for starting up Javascript. I'm on the 'Storing Values with the Assignment Operator' challenge, and instructions are 'Assign the value 7 to variable a. Assign the contents of a to variable b.' this is my setup now

@michajo2k3 so that's the basic idea, you want to order the events that are happening and by nesting it, you are doing that. there's different ways to accomplish this, but putting getJSON inside navigator.geolocation.getCurrentPosition for now is the simplest way for you get the basic idea

@hnry For some reason it seems that the code gets very muddled, more so than Python or Ruby as far as I remember (its been a couple years) , is it just JavaScript or is it my inexperience?

Hey guys, I am working in codepen. I have run into a wall as to how to use images from my computer on the html that I am writing the page with. I have used the 'img src= "xx" but the final image showing is similar to one of a broken link, there is no image, does anyone know how I can best add images from my computer? Thanks in advance

This is what I am missing: Do not add a class attribute to the second p element, without removing it from the first one.
Give elements with the p tag a font-size of 16px. Browser and Text zoom should be at 100%.

you're already defining the font size of <p> elements under <style> so, no class= on that second <p class=.......no>
that challenge is to check if you can change the font size under the <style> tag
without individually changing it in <p class=...stuff

@cgraham74 looks good! If you want, add some social buttons using bootstrap and linking fonts from fontawesome. You can style the color using primary, info, danger etc and show the social media related icon using font awesome icons

Understand String Immutability

In JavaScript, String values are immutable, which means that they cannot be altered once created.

For example, the following code:

cannot change the value of myStr to "Job", because the contents of myStr cannot be altered. Note that this does not mean that myStr cannot be changed, just that the individual characters of a string literal cannot be changed. @sludge256 Yeah I've noticed that if you load the website in Internet Explorer or Edge and observe what happens; the entire menu slides down the page. It appears that in Chrome, the visual position of the menu stays where it is, but the actual position it thinks it is follows the path that it takes in Explorer/Edge.

I'm working on my first pen - the uber simple 'go make a tribute page in codepen' assignment. I'm super frustrated - it won't load the image. I'm using the bootstrap Jumbotron template, modified of course. It's not even showing a broken image icon. It's displaying the caption; it's displaying all the text correctly. I've tried hosting from wikipedia, from github, from cloudinary. I don't want to sign up for a yahoo account, so I haven't tried flickr yet, but why would it be any different? I started this list while doing Algorithms, noticing a few things that were common issues / questions but I think most of them are going to be useful to people coding in general. If you've got some tips to help people code I'd love to hear them.

  1. If you don't know where to start, write some pseudocode. Plan out the logic you're trying to implement in your native language before you try to put it into code.

  2. Comment your code! Can't stress that one enough, if you get lost or take a break then come back you need to know what your code is trying to do. It will also reinforce what the code means to you, and help other people understand what your code does if you get stuck and ask for help. If you've got a any other tips for campers I'd love to see them!

  3. Use the chrome javascript debugger console in conjunction with something like netbeans IDE or sublime text to write your code. Both are free to download. <br />
    The free code camp window is great but you can get a lot more feedback on your code's behaviour by using chrome's JS debugger and a bunch of console.log(myVariableGoesHere); <br />

Currently I am trying to get my navbar for my portfolio working properly however when I add the <a href> to my button it changes the style of my button and they no longer sit right next to eachother and when you mouseover one there is a black line going between the current button and the button to the right. Am I just creating the navbar wrong?

so I've been having a few issues with the personal portfolio. I finally figured out how to make a navbar, but I want it to be yellow instead of gray or blue, and I figured out how to do that, but I don't know how to make the active tab not the gray default bc the contrast is terrible. I also can't align the home, about, portfolio and contact tabs to the right. I've tried examples that I've seen online, but I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.
@mlloydprogramming are you using bootstrap?

Just close the div before ul and it will work.

@doctorworm you can add diffrent backgrounds to different sections or divs in your html so if you put your html in a new div you can give that div an id and apply a background to that id in your css

I think FCC purposely throws us into the deep end so we can build out skill of finding out how to do stuff through google/forums/youtube. That's why there's no navbar tutorial in the lessons... I think

Hi @rdcraigII , you have to write between lines 3 and 7 this - if a or b are less than 0 the function will immediately exit with a value of undefined.
other words check if a < 0 or b < 0 and if true than return undefined
